The Baani Explorer has found itself in the unlikely position of being partly responsible for the Palme d’Or award which went to ‘Ocean Nights’ an underwater film which was partly produced on this Maldives liveaboard in 2006.The film features incredible footage of the activity on coral reefs after sunset and was filmed in a variety of locations: Indian Ocean, Andaman Sea, Banda Sea (Indonesia) and the Red Sea. The Award-Winning Maldives!
2008-02-06 03:36:00
The Maldives secured no fewer than 9 travel awards at the 2007 World Travel Awards 14th Annnual Gala Ceremony held in The Turks & Caicos, in December 2007.The awards are the equivalent of 'The Oscars' to the world of traveland to be voted ‘World’s Most Romantic Destination’ is quite a feather in the cap. When you consider the remoteness of the location, the glorious weather, lagoons fringed with white sandy beaches and the high level of service available it is clear why this destination would appeal to couples. It was (unsurprisingly) also voted the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination. So if you are looking for a diving break with your sweetheart then why not take them on a dive cruise in the world's most romantic spot? If your partner is a non-diver then they can stay on board while you go for your dive. They get the romance, you get some of the world's best diving! Everyone's a winner!More Information on the diving here: Maldives Dive SitesCheck out our range of cruises her ...
Maldives 2007 – A Record Year For Tourists
2008-02-06 03:16:00
Everyone has seen the classic images of the Maldives. The atoll chain is synonymous with fine white sandy beaches, azure lagoons and a quiet, romantic atmosphere. These days the two prinicpal visitors are honeymooners and of course, people like you....divers. Recent figures from the Maldives Tourist Board reveal that the popularity of the country continues to rise with a record total of 675,889 tourists in 2007. This represents an increase of 12.3% on the previous year.Countries of origin ranks as follows:UK - 125,158Italy - 117,246Germany - 72,269France - 45,301Japan - 41,121China - 35,976 But do not fear. The reason for the increase and the vast majority of visitor numbers relate to resorts, their expansion and the improvement of their infrastructure. We at Dive The World know that to get the best out of the Maldives as divers then resorts are not really the way to go. To see a variety of sites in and around the atolls and channels, a liveaboard is really the only answer. So we don't ...

Sardine Run in South Africa! Just do it!
2008-01-29 00:11:00
The Sardine Run is one of the most spectacular marine displays in the world, and being involved in all the action is truly an amazing experience. The shoals of sardines, which are kilometres in length, attract thousands of predators: birds, dolphins, game fish, seals, whales and sharks in an amazing feeding frenzy. You don't have to sit there watching it on Animal Planet in your slippers and supping a hot chocolate. You can be there! The seas are too rough for liveaboards but you can do daytrip packages and below is the best one we could find. Using Port St. Johns as the departure point, you are much more likely to be in the thick of the action rather than the tail end (if at all) in KwaZulu Natal. The Sardine Run has reached KZN's Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks only twice in 10 years now, which is why people are starting to believe it’s not reliable. Our local partners have 2 dive boats and operate for 3 weeks from Port St. Johns with a maximum of 9 people per week on each boat. Tou ...

Tour this Maldives Liveaboard - MV Monsoon!
2008-01-22 03:09:00
It only takes a glance at the sleek exterior of the MV Monsoon to realise that this is a high quality liveaboard, and that joining one of its Maldives trips would mean a combination of awesome diving, extreme comfort and great service.MV Monsoon is 36.5 metres in length and is an impressive looking steel-hulled ship. It is no surprise to hear that its sister ship, The Hurricane which operates in the Red Sea, was voted ‘Best Liveaboard’ four times in a row by readers of Dive magazine. Let’s take a walk through the boat and see how it is laid out. The lower deck is where you will find 7 twin cabins for guests all with ensuite bathrooms with toilet, basin and hot shower with toiletries and towels. The cabins are all air conditioned, and have portholes which is one of the few reminders that you are on a boat. Otherwise the cabins are like a hotel room with a fridge, TV, DVD, music system and safe. So unlike many other liveaboards your cabin can be more than just a place to sleep. Her ...
