A Conversation With A TAXI Driver (PART 2)
2007-07-26 11:00:00
As I mentioned in "A Conversation With A TAXI Driver" (read it here), Bangkok’s TAXI drivers just say the darnest things. This time I was (again) riding a TAXI on the main Sukhumvit Road when the driver, a man in his late twenties with longish hair started to mention that he actually doesn’t like watching those stereotypical lakons (soap opera) but instead prefers the traditional lakons (unfortunately I didn’t catch the title of his favorite lakon because at this time I was busy fiddling with my cellphone - aaarrgghhh). This was quite surprising to me because stereotypically, lakon watchers are usually female, but hey, like I said, Bangkok has some of the most interesting TAXI drivers in the world~!! For those who don’t know, modern Thai lakons are usually filled with high drama, lots of screaming, crying, cat fights and hair pulling - and of course, the stereotypical love triangle between: - The stereotypical good guy character (soft-spoken, riep rooy - meani... ...

Sick Nurses
2007-07-16 16:42:00
OH GAAAWD, I NEED A DOCTOR. Seriously. My head needs to be examined because I still can't believe how the HELL did I let myself get talked into watching "Sick Nurses" (or "Suay Lak Sai" in Thai).
The movie itself opened last month, but judging by the trashy trailer, I decided to give it a miss. But when a friend bought the DVD and invited me to watch, I thought "hey why not at least it's FREE".
It turned out to be a FREE MASSACRE of my brain cells.
The story is: seven curvaceous nurses (wearing impossibly sexy costumes out of porn movies - costumes real nurses wouldn't be caught DEAD in - no pun intended) were one by one killed in very "creative" ways by a vengeful spirit.
If that hasn't made you scratch your head yet, wait, there's more...
- These va-va-voom nurses were working in a creepy, deserted hospital.
- All seven nurses had serious personal obsessions that led directly to their deaths.
- The hospital actually sold dead bodies and human organs.
- The head doc... ...

Waiting for Harry in Sukhumvit
2007-07-15 11:20:51
Like oh everywhere else in the world, Harrymania has also gripped Sukhumvit. Fans have been counting down to the day when "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is available for sale (21 July).
Incredibly, Emporium has even created these two (Diagon Alley and Platform 9 and 3/4) to whip up even more hype (unfortunately, they've misspelled "Quidditch" and "bolts").

Waiting for Harry in Sukhumvit

Like oh everywhere else in the world, Harrymania has also gripped Sukhumvit. Fans have been counting down to the day when "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is available for sale (21 July). Incredibly, Emporium has even created these two (Diagon Alley on the left and Platform 9 and 3/4 on lower right) to whip up even more excitement/hype (unfortunately, they've misspelled "Quidditch"). Two international bookstores at Emporium (Kinokuniya and Asia Books) have also been trumpeting the book and asking readers to reserve their copies. There has been much speculation about WHO will be killed in this final book, and author J.K. Rowling has pleaded to those who know ANYTHING to keep their mouths shut so as not to spoil the ending for everyone else. I have a few guesses... I think it's either: - Hagrid - Malfoy - Snape What do you guys think? (Oh please let Harry live!!!) More pics related to Harrymania here: Hype Hype Harry~!! and Welcome Back to Sukhumvit, Harry~!! st... ...

Scoozi
2007-07-15 11:04:45
Relatively new to Thonglo, Scoozi is actually not new to Bangkok and already has branches in several locations. This addition to Sukhumvit doesn't disappoint.
True, it ain't cheap (a dish of pasta goes for about 200 baht and pizza for about 350 baht) BUT the ingredients are all fresh and imported, the portions generous.
Its menu offers a lot of choices (which kinda makes it hard for indecisive Libras to make up their minds and pick), but when in doubt, just go with the safe choices: pasta sauces such as carbonara, vongole and aglio olio. There are also numerous choices for its Neapolitan-style pizza, which is wood-fired in an oven.
Scoozi also gives a little insight into the highly popular pizza: it was in 1889 that Rafael Esposito created a special pizza to welcome the visit of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita to Neapolitan. He used basil, mozzarella cheese and tomatoes to create a patriotic pizza resembling the green, white and red Italian flag. Naturally, he called it th... ...
