Zune MP3 music player gets a $50 price cut from Microsoft 2007-09-06 05:50:04 Microsoft and Apple have been competing with each other for years, so it comes as no surprise that Microsoft have cut the price of their Zune MP3 music player by $50. The timing of this announcement does seem suspicious as Apple has announced price cuts and upgrades to much of their range. Microsoft made the anouncement just hours before Apple had their conference, so not we will be paying $199 for the 30 GB Zune digital music player. Although Microsoft has said that they have been planning this price cut for months. The Zune was released last year as direct competition to the Apple iPod, Microsoft met the target of selling one million units before the end of June, however they have a long way to go as the Apple have sold 100 million of their iPod since the launch in 2001. American Idol 6 Tour Only Fills 63.3% Of Its Seats 2007-09-06 05:46:21 American Idol 6’s ratings were way down and it seems that the show continues to prove to be less popular than its predecessors. At its halfway point of the tour the top 10 finalists are far less popular than the tour last year and even the one in 2005. It’s been reported that nearly half of the shows were below 60% of capacity and the Lowest was 38.9% in Birmingham, Ala., hometown of 2006 winner Taylor Hicks and 2003 champ Ruben Studdard. Apparently during last year’s first half, 17 were sell outs and another 10 exceeded 93% of capacity. Overall, the tour has earned $12.1 million at its halfway point this year, which is far less than half of the $35.2 million it earned last year. Every movie he touches turns to gothic gold and on Wednesday he was honoured with a career award at the Venice Film Festival. Miyoshi Umeki Has Died At 78 After Battle With Cancer 2007-09-06 05:30:21 Miyoshi Umeki, the Oscar-winning actress has died of cancer. She was 78 years old. Miyoshi Umeki won the award for her performance as the doomed wife of an American serviceman in Sayonara and later starred in the Broadway musical Flower Drum Song. Japanese Umeki was the first Asian performer to ever win an Oscar. She died on August 28th at Licking nursing home. The film Sayonara saw her team with Red Buttons in a tragic subplot about a U.S serviceman and local woman who fall in love in post WWII Japan. Faced with losing her husband when he goes back to America, the couple commit suicide. She later played Mei Li, a mail-order bride bought to San Francisco from China in the 1958 show Flower Drum song. She was nominated for a Tony for best actress in a musical and reprised her role in the 1961 film version.
