Sentinel Management Group Update: Sentinel Funds Request Denied, Sentinel Money Market Remains Trading 2007-08-14 13:24:49 Recently, the Sentinel Management Group posted a request to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission to stop all withdrawals from the Sentinel funds. However, the Sentinel Management Group request has been denied by the Commission as it said it lacked the authority to stop trading in the Sentinel money market. The Sentinel Management Group placed this request due to significant increases in trading out of Sentinel funds and the Sentinel money market. The Sentinel Management Group said: ‘We had previously thought that the market would return to some semblance of order and that our clients would not join in the panic,’ ‘Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Craig Carton Leaves 101.5 For WFAN, Imus Replaced 2007-08-14 13:18:17 The broadcaster known as many names, mainly Craig Carton, has been unpredictably hired as co-host of the morning show at WFAN in New York. WFAN has been searching for a new morning show co-host since it fired the racially charged Don Imus, revealed today that Carton and former NFL quarterback will begin hosting the morning show the day after Labor Day. “Returning to my sports roots is something I’m very much looking forward, and it’s an honor and a privilege to be joining WFAN working alongside someone of Boomer’s stature,” Carton said in a news release issued by WFAN. I’m glad to hear Craig Carton has been chosen to do this and was pretty ashamed of Don Imus after the remarks he made against a women’s basketball team. Tropical Depression 4 Storm: National Hurricane Center Warning 2007-08-14 13:10:00 The Tropical Depression 4 storm has formed in the Eastern Atlantic and is heading fast westward, and with the current forecast track which places it very close to the local area on Saturday. The are mentions from the National Hurricane Center that the Dutch Windward Islands, the British and US Virgin Islands, Dominica and Guadeloupe plus Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis and Antigua as possibly being in the systems path. The centre of Tropical Depression 4 was located at around 11pm yesterday close to latitude 12.0 North and longitude 35.0 West which in terms most people will know is about 1780 miles East of the Lesser Antilles. TD 4 was moving towards the West near 20 mph and it is the general motion which was expected to continue during the next 24 hours. The roughly estimated minimum central pressure was 1005mb, 29.68 inches and the maximum were nearly 35mph with higher gusts; the depression could become a tropical storm. Kentucky KY Lottery Sets State Record; $744 Million in Ticket Revenue 2007-08-14 12:42:24 The Official Kentucky Lottery announced Wednesday that it had reached a record sales in terms ticket revenue, that being the figure of $744 million in the ‘fiscal’ year, ending June 30. Lottery President said that “75% of all tickets sold in Kentucky are sold at locations that also sell gas.” This makes sense, as noones going to go to a gas station purely to buy some lottery tickets. An interesting idea is that the gas prices are on the rise, so will this mean a cut in the amount of sales of lottery tickets in Kentucky? I doubt it. Why? Nokia Battery Recall: BL-5C batteries are overheating during charging 2007-08-14 12:04:44 Many batteries from Nokia which are used in a range of Nokia handsets have had a recall, from the latest 1100 to the Nokia E60 is at a major risk of over heating during charging. Out of over 300 million batteries which are BL-5C batteries that are manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co for Nokia last year seems that there are 46 million which belong to the bad batch. There have been well over 100 reports of incidents already, but please DO NOT worry none have exploding, caught on fire or burnt people but better to be safe than sorry Nokia have called for a recall. Toothpaste Recall for Gilchrist & Soames: Toxic chemical found in hotel toiletries 2007-08-14 11:59:55 It seems as if many hotels across Canada had to rush around to try and destroy all tubes of their miniature tubes of Gilchrist & Soames toothpaste, which has been made in China. Gilchrist & Soames which is based in Indianapolis have issued a recall after tests show that the toothpaste contains toxic chemical that is used to make such things as antifreeze. The chemical found is called diethylene glycol, or the more common name DEG, Gilchrist & Soames imported the tubes from Ming Fai Enterprises International Co in China, the toiletries which are 18-millilitre tubes then ship to hotels across Canada. Other countries have also been shipped to other countries including France, Italy, Mexico, UK, and the US. Review: Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson in Vacancy on Blu-ray 2007-08-14 11:59:42 Vacancy has been released on Blu-Ray and boy is it good. For those who haven’t seen the movie, Vacancy is about a couple, David and Amy Fox, whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and the bickering couple end up spending the night in a motel with a seriously creepy manager. Sony brings ‘Vacancy’ to Blu-Ray with an amazing 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer. The film was hastily bought to DVD and those who have seen it on both the theatre screen and in High-Def will know there is no contest. Vacancy, as you’d expect from a horror is naturally a dark film but on the Blu-Ray disc, has a smooth, sleek look about it that prevents it looking cheap. The images don’t come out glossy and isn’t grainy or over processed. The DVD makes the film look natural and realistic.
