India Out Paces China as Growth Boosts BHP Billiton Sales 2007-08-24 02:50:32 The largest mining company in the world, BHP Billiton, has said that growth in its sales is due to massive increase in demand from India. BHP Billiton also said that India was outpacing China in terms of increased demand for metals and other raw materials. BHP Billiton now has higher sales in India than it did 6 years ago in China, although China accounts for a fifth of BHP Billiton’s revenue. The government in India is going to spend up to $450 billion by 2012 to build new roads, ports and power stations and accelerate growth to 10 percent from an average 8.6 percent in the past four years. Two Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan 2007-08-23 18:28:50 “I am deeply saddened by the loss of two Canadian soldiers who died today in Afghanistan.” This was the reaction of Peter Gordon Mackay, Canada’s Minister of National Defence on Thursday. The soldiers, along with their Afghan interpreter were killed when their light armoured vehicle hit a land mine approximately 50 kilometres west of Kandahar City. The fatal explosion also injured another Canadian soldier and two Canadian journalists. One of the soldiers has been identified as Master Corporal Christian Duchesne, based out of Valcartier, Quebec. The other soldier’s family members have been notified but his name has been withheld at their request. Chicago Weather: thunderstorms and tornados damaging buildings 2007-08-23 17:26:46 This afternoon the windy city of Chicago has had some severe weather, from bad thunderstorms and some witnesses say that they saw tornados as well. The bad weather has slammed into Chicago where it was damaging buildings, as well as tearing down power lines and even uprooting trees. The powerful storm that has hit Chicago had had winds reaching speeds of over 80mph, early indications report that West Chicago fared the worst from the storm. At an industrial park on Roosevelt Road a roof collapsed, which injured 40 people where 7 had to go to hospital.
