A Promise to the Dead Isn’t Set To Look Too Lively At The Box Office
2007-08-28 13:32:20
The movie A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman begins with a reminder that the terrorist attacks that took place in 2001 were not the first time that September 11 was forcibly imprinted onto a nation’s collective memory.
On September 11, 1973 military planes which belonged to Gen. Augusto Pinochet launched an attack that annihilated the democratically elected regime of Salvador Allende in Santiago, Chile. Novelist and playwright Ariel Dorfman was living in Chile at the time of the attacks and, fearing for his life after the military coup, he went into hiding and fled the country.
This movie, directed by Peter Raymont, marks Dorfman’s attempt to honour his friends and compatriots murdered by Pinochet’s troops.
Dorfman’s oldest son, Rodrigo appears in the film, as well as acts as an associate producer, but he’s the only family member to offer any perspective on the painful experience of dislocation. The film does seem to lack on other faces and voices besi ...

Gone, Baby, Gone is an amalgamation of two Afflecks, a director and cast with a few Academy Awards under their belts, a best-selling novel and a gripping story. It all adds up to a fantastic directional debut from Ben Affleck. The movie will be introduced to the world at the Deauville Festival of American Film on September 5th.
The thriller is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane who wrote Mystic River. The crime drama follows the story of two private investigators who are searching for a 4-year-old girl kidnapped in a rough neighbourhood in Boston.
Ben Affleck produced, directed and co-wrote the film but decided to stay behind the camera in favour of his younger brother Casey who is on the brink of a breakout in Hollywood with roles in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and in the Deauville’s line up.
Joining Casey in the cast of Gone are Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Ryan.

EA games thinks the PS3 “Just sucks!”
2007-08-28 13:05:22
The hostility between the worlds biggest game publisher EA Games and Sony has reached boiling point recently. The game developing giants EA said the following on the PS3 recently: “The truth is the PS3’s tools and the way it works just sucks. The truth is they are both virtually the same in terms of hardware when it comes to how powerful they are, maybe the PS3 has a few different things that makes it a bit more advance, and Sony has this idea that it is designed for optimal development but that’s a load of crap. In the last generation we would make the game for PS2 and then port it over to Xbox, but because Xbox was easier to develop for, we could actually enhance the title a little if we wanted to. The case with this generation is different, now we make the game for 360 first and then port it over to PS3, but we really don’t have the time to mess with how the PS3 works to really add to much more. It will change in the future, but for now it sucks.”

Ceratech: a new type of fast drying environmentally friendly cement
2007-08-28 12:29:33
CeraTech Inc have now produced a new kind of cement, that is both fast drying and also environmentally friendly. The company is led by an Army veteran who felt that the military needed new fast drying cement that is ideal in combat conditions. Traditional cement take a while to dry but Ceratech cement dries in only four hours, and it gets better the cement can be driven over by vehicles or even aircraft.
This could be very important in combat zones such as Iraq or Afghanistan. The New Jersey authority have been testing Ceratech cement for two years now, so that they can use this fast cure cement on residential roads, but it is still early days and there are many learning curves to be made. What is also great about this new kind of cement is that it does not use 90% fly ash like other cements do, which makes this cement environmentally friendly.

2007-08-28 12:02:00
For those of you who wish to know what kind of car George Hotz is driving it is a Nissan 350z, ok many of you do not know who Hotz is he is the man who traded his hacked iPhone for the Nissan 350z sports car. This is just the latest in a long line of Z sports cars from the Japanese automaker. For those of you who do not know much about the Nissan 350z, it is a sports car that offers great performance at a realistic price.
The 350Z has a sleek look that can accelerate as fast as it can brake, and when it comes to handling, it can compete with vehicles more expensive than itself. Many sports cars are great for racing but cannot handle the day to day driving, that is what makes the Nissan 350z different.
The car comes in two varieties a convertible soft-top roadster or a two-seat coupe, both perform just as good as each other, although the coupe with its reduced weight does have the slight edge and the fact that it has a better structural rigidity. The engine used to power the 350z is a ...

Barrick Gold Corp (ABX): Not The Best Way To Profit From Rising Gold Prices
2007-08-28 11:49:26
Some people think that gold prices are heading a lot higher than current levels of around $660/ounce in the next few years.
If this is to be believed then what remain to be decide is how can investors best profits from rising gold prices?
Barrick Gold Corp is the largest gold mining company in the world and therefore ones first choice could be to invest in shares in Barrick, in the hope that the stock will rise with higher gold prices.
However, as The Gold Prices Newsletter pointed out today, that has not been the best thing to do in the past:
“Barrick has not kept up with the price of gold so our money would have provided a better return had we invested in the metal. The second observation is that both Agnico-Eagle and Yamana [which are other gold mining stocks] have dramatically outperformed Barrick. Likewise many other gold miners have also outperformed Barrick.”
So perhaps the biggest is not the best when it comes to gold stocks.
Do you think investing in Barrick is a good ...

Are you with the diaper free baby movement?
2007-08-28 11:42:02
The Diaper-Free movement is growing thick and fast. The movement was founded on the belief that all babies are born with an instinctive ability to signal when they have to use the restroom. Parents who practice this “elimination communication” learn to actually read their children’s body language to help them recognize the need to use the toilet and they mimic the sounds that a child associates with going to the bathroom.
Erin Klatt began toilet training her son from birth and claims he has not wet his bed at night since he was a tiny 6 months old!
She says, “The nice part is . . . really getting the majority of poops in the toilet vs. having to clean that. I don’t have to wake up at night and change diapers or have wet sheets anywhere. That’s really nice.
“And being able to travel without a big, bloated diaper bag is terrific,”
Well not all parents and experts agree with the claims of the “Diaper-Free” movement.
The experts at the Child Study ...
