What Will Windows 7 Look Like ?
2008-02-28 11:04:00
Analysts said Microsoft probably is keeping tight-lipped about what Windows 7 will look like because at this point, company engineers and executives don’t even know.“They don’t want to commit because they don’t have a good idea what’s in it,” said Michael Silver, an analyst with Gartner. “We’re three years out, so you can’t really expect that much detail.”Michael Cherry, an analyst with Directions on Microsoft, said that with so many people still in the midst of upgrading to the latest client OS, Windows Vista, he’s hesitant to speculate on what might be in the next OS. “We barely know the features of the one we just got,” he said with a laugh. That said, Cherry is expecting less “earth-shattering” new features than improvements on some of the new ones found in Windows Vista, such as the Bitlocker encryption feature, which is currently hard for the average PC user to navigate.“You have to partition your hard drive and do a bunch of things, and you can onl ...

Direct x 10 Disappointing
2008-02-28 11:01:00
“Many of the newest Windows games will take full advantage of the next-generation graphics technology in Windows Vista called DirectX 10.” says Microsoft. Gamers(mostly) don’t care what is behind the all hyped up DirectX 10. They care about the power it gives and the new feel it gives. And sorry to say, DX10 is not upto the mark.Wondering why?DX10 will only run on systems which have Windows Vista and a fairly high-end graphics card. Developers are really thinking whether to use DX10 considering the slow upgrades by users to Vista. The upcoming games : Call of Juarez, Lost Planet and Company of heroes have the same kind of the DX9 feel with extra graphical improvements and some new features. Crave even ran a DX10 machine and DX9 machine side by side and it was nearly impossible to detect differences. Don’t be sad that you just upgraded to Vista hoping to see some real game experience. Wait for more titles(more like kind hearted Devs) before you throw that machine to dogs.

Everybody’s favorite open-source browser, Firefox, is great right out of the box. And by adding some of the awesome extensions available out there, the browser just gets better and better. But look under the hood, and there are a bunch of hidden (and some not-so-secret) tips and tricks available that will crank Firefox up and pimp your browser. Make it faster, cooler, more efficient. Get to be a Jedi master with the following cool Firefox tricks.1) More screen space. Make your icons small. Go to View - Toolbars - Customize and check the “Use small icons” box.2) Smart keywords. If there’s a search you use a lot (let’s say IMDB.com’s people search), this is an awesome tool that not many people use. Right-click on the search box, select “Add a Keyword for this search”, give the keyword a name and an easy-to-type and easy-to-remember shortcut name (let’s say “actor”) and save it. Now, when you want to do an actor search, go to Firefox’s address bar, type “actor” ...
