Gameloft To Be SDK Launch Partner?
2008-02-19 21:17:57
The recent Game Developer’s Conference has been interesting for gamers the world over. In and amongst the various GDC keynotes was that of Michel Guillemot, CEO of big-time mobile gaming outfit Gameloft, whose keynote presentation shed some light on their future plans to support the iPhone (and by extension, the iPod Touch) as a mobile gaming platform. Michel mentioned that they are looking to add support for the iPhone alongside their recent adoption of the latest iteration of Nokia’s N-Gage platform, and added that they will be looking to release a few WiFi-enabled games before the year is out.
Of more tantalizing interest however was his slide presentation, which depicted one of their games displayed on an iPhone. Now, it is entirely possible that this was simply a mockup of a planned future title, but when it comes to the forthcoming SDK-packing Apple Event, there is one thing that we can be reasonably sure of at this point: Apple isn’t likely to serve up the m ...

2008-02-19 20:53:38
A trio of guys got together and felt the urge to show of their skills by forming a band… They are known today as the iBand. The band consists of a pianist, a guitarist, and an electroplanktonist(?).
Ladies and Gentlemen! Without further ado!…
iBand!
I must admit, they’ve done a fantastic job. I cannot wait to see more videos such as this pop up on You Tube and other online video services.

32GB iPod Touch in Canada | How about the iPhone?
2008-02-19 08:01:45
If you reside a little higher up north - the colder parts of the world - like I do, you’ll know by now that we usually need to wait for products to arrive here days, sometimes even weeks, months, and at times years after they’ve arrived in the United States. Just think iPhone…
Well, at least we won’t have to wait months - let alone years - for the 32giger, folks!
The 32GB iPod Touch will be available to Canadians at retail stores such as Futureshop and Best Buy as soon as February 22nd!
Looks like we’ll be stuck paying $499.99 for these suckers for now. But don’t forget about that price drop (see story) that we’re anticipating within the next couple of months! If you’re hurtin’ for cash, maybe wait it out a couple months and save yourself $100!
Or, go ahead and pre-order yours today!
Futureshop | Best Buy
Here’s a little clip from Futureshop:
Releases 22 Feb/08. The best just got a whole lot bigger. Apple managed to cram twi ...

Tiny-Code: “I lied.”
2008-02-18 23:15:38
Yeah. So. Remember that Tiny-Code rumor we posted about the other day? Turns out it was a steaming crock. MacRumors member and Tiny-Code developer Kelly™ has owned up to being the creator of the hoax and wasting many a blogger’s time — ourselves included. Rather than waste too much more time on this, I’ll let Kelly speak for himself.
Hey Guys,
It’s finally time I just come out and say it; I lied.
Tiny-Code never had any relations with Apple, Inc. or any other division of Apple. Never had the new firmware or any pre-SDK pack. Certainly never signed any NDA.
I find it interesting that a simple joke on the front of a minor at best Installer.app repo can cause so many wakes.
It is equivocally funny that a simple re-enforcement of the page by me posted earlier stating I had been “reprimanded” by Apple could throw it even more into believability.
To top it all off, a simple redirection of the domain to Apple’s iPhone Developer center would cau ...

iPhysics Top Ten Level Packs
2008-02-18 18:43:19
A couple of weeks ago I decided that I wanted to do a Top 10 iPhysics level pack article. I created a poll on iPod Touch Fans to put the question to the users to ask their opinions on their favourite level packs — both to make this truly a Fan Choice, and because I have my own level pack in this mix so I didn’t want to appear biased. I must admit that I’ve been putting off posting this article for some time — mostly due to working on the bog and having other things get in the way (like other news stories and that little annoyance called life), but here, finally, I present to you the Top 10 iPhysics Level Packs! These have all been chosen by fans of the game, and the results might surprise you. Without further ado, let me get on with the countdown!
10. Rawd’s Aquarium by Rawd
Kicking off the countdown is Rawd’s Aquarium. This level pack is controlled entirely with the accelerometer, and the object is to guide Mr. Fishhead arou ...

More Rumors: Flash, Clipboard & iChat?
2008-02-18 16:29:47
iPod Touch Fans user H3X (via xxDriveNxx) just tipped me off to an alleged survey conducted by European telecom company Orange, and supposedly commissioned by Apple. A call to Orange France’s customer service by Hardmac contributor Quentin turned up some revealing tidbits about the next update to the iPhone and iPod Touch:
I am sending you an email to announce a survey by Apple.
A call to Orange France customer service gave some confirmations, some answers, some expected, others less so …
– Update 2 (this would be the correct name, not 1.1.4), will bring new features:
* Support for Flash, files with extension .Docx
* Adding a mini file manager
* Adding a “clipboard” to manage copied and pasted text, and send files to the clipboard via email or bluetooth
* iClips Management (is this the name of apps distributed via iTunes?)
* A more complete bluetooth manager
* iChat accessible only via wifi
– But it would not bring:
* Management of MMS
* Video cap ...

How would you change Touch Podium?
2008-02-18 15:13:50
Those of you who have stuck with is through thick and thin have no doubt noticed that we’ve been a little indecisive with regards to our look and feel. We’ve been through no fewer than five theme changes in the last month, to say nothing of the other changes we’ve introduced throughout the site. So far, the changes we have introduced have been based upon a combination of personal choices and research on blog trends and tips, and so far we’ve been fairly pleased with how things are turning out. However, visual gags aside, this site is for you, our readers. You are the ones who come back time and again to check up on the latest news and views and check out our site features, so it seems only right that we now put the question to you: How would you change Touch Podium? What features would you add? Remove? How do you like the current theme? Are you happy with the content? Have your say — tell us what you think. Click on the comments link here or below ...

iPhysics gets Intergalactic Hamsters
2008-02-18 13:57:46
iPod Touch Fans user Sic Jake loves his touch, his physics, and evidently, space-faring rodents. To requite his love for this trio, he is working on a new level pack for iPhysics called Hyper Ham Ball: Intergalactic Hamsters Thru Time. This is a physics-based platformer with two-way control and wonderful Anime-style visuals — but I’ll let Jake do the talking.
First off, love my Itouch.
Second, adore Iphysics.
So much time wasted with both, so little work getting down. Very cool R4m0n! Keep adding to the program! Would love to see area triggers, more actions, and the ability to control what shapes the user can draw, as well as skin those objects.

Homebrew Hardware Hacks: Free Stylus and Dock
2008-02-18 13:23:21
Can’t afford a Pogo stylus? Don’t want the stock-white iPod dock? Got a creative streak you want to put to work? If you answered yes to any of these questions then I’ve got a couple of projects for you.
First off, iPod Touch Fans user Ejizzle4550 has devised a way to turn an ordinary pencil into a stylus you can use for Sketches or any other thing you might want to use it for. all you need is a pencil and a little bit of aluminum sealing tape. (If you don’t have any aluminum sealing tape handy, check your local dollar or hardware store; you can pick up a roll for a few bucks.) I would also recommend a screen protector, preferably an invisibleSHIELD or Best Skins Ever full-body skin to avoid scratches. From there, Ejizzle4550 give us simple directions on how to create it:
so, i was exploring different ideas of being able to have a stylus to make cooler drawings in sketches…heres my easiest way yet…get a pencil with a brand new eraser…w ...

iPod Touch And iPhone To See Price Drop VERY Soon.
2008-02-18 02:00:07
It looks like 9to5Mac got word from a reliable source, that it is said there will be a price drop on all iPod Touch’s and iPhones real soon. Possibly within the next couple of months.
Also, according to 9to5Mac, it sounds like Apple may plan on stopping the sales of the 8GB iPod Touch.
Here is what 9to5Mac had to say about the price drop:
We just got a tip that Apple is planning on dropping the prices again on the iPhone and iPod Touch line within the next month or two - perhaps at the late February event, perhaps as late as mid-April. Our tipster says that Apple will drop the prices by $100.
Also, the 8Gb iPod Touch will be dropped from the lineup according to the source. It might also make sense that the 8Gb iPhone would get phased out as well, but it wasn’t mentioned in the tip. Inventories will likely be a big factor in the timing so we’re keeping an eye out for shortages.
The price drops are likely to make some price spacing for the newer 3G iPhones that are ...

yangbao111 of the deviantart.com community, on the 16th, uploaded a beautiful new theme for the Pool game that was just recently released for the iPod Touch / iPhone, which we posted about here on February the 11th.

I must admit, this theme is absolutely gorgeous. I must give kudos to the theme creator; yangbao111. I couldn’t of done a better job myself, even if I tried!

Firmware 1.1.4 Hints at Being Released Alongside SDK
2008-02-17 18:01:01
Folks, we may be getting a firmware update (1.1.4) alongside the highly anticipated software development kit being released at the end of the month. We’re not entire sure what the update consists of, but it looks like those at Tiny-Code are working with Apple on this one.
On February 15th, Tiny-Code.com (now being redirected to Apple’s Dev Center) had an update on their website stating the following:
Tiny Code no longer produces fixes or applications for firmware 1.1.3.
We can’t say much, but we are working with Apple and with their SDK for the next firmware release and SDK applications and we shouldn’t be missed for long. We will no longer update our Installer.app repo for legality reasons and you should see us soon on iTunes.
Just left of this update was a tidbit stating:
“Now targetting fw 1.1.4 Alpha 2“.
See screenshot below for proof:

Starbucks QuickOrder - “Get your coffee fix, fast”
2008-02-17 17:22:38
QuickOrder will allow iPhone and iPod Touch users to order their favorite Starbucks drinks without having to wait in line. The application also includes QuickPay, which allows customers to use a swipe transaction system which makes use of semacode technology.
Be sure to visit the source to view a short flash video of QuickOrder in action!
The day this application is released, you will see me at my local Starbucks trying this out. Hopefully the oh-so-popular Canadian coffee stop Tim Horton’s gets a hold of this eventually! :-)
Have a look at more screens provided by GENOCO, by reading the rest of this entry, below.
