Report: 12-inch MacBook Pro by end of year ?
2007-07-12 04:41:00
Ever since Apple's PowerBook line met its end last year, people have been clamoring for Apple to return to them a 12-inch laptop. Rumors of Steve Jobs granting their wishes and bestowing upon them an ultraportable, professional-grade notebook have been fairly consistent since the man introduced the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros. Today, MacScoop quotes "trusted sources" that point to the arrival of a 12-inch MacBook Pro by the end of the year. These sources say the laptop will be half as thick as the old 12-inch PowerBook at 0.6 or 0.7 inch (15 to 18 millimeters to our international readers). This rumored laptop will weigh less than 3 pounds, making it the lightest Apple laptop ever released. If it's ever release.Read More

Sony Vaio LB92
2007-07-12 04:35:00
Sony recognizes the importance of design, and they have the talent for good looking computers. The Vaio LB92 slimtop is about bringing style to your room. Rarely would one think of the PC in the room as a design object, but the LB92 subtly makes that transition. The slimtop is mounted in a glass frame, a look we have also seen on Sony's large screen plasma and LCD televisions. The keyboard is connected and folds up when not in use. This immediately cleans up the surrounding space, and starts an attractive Vaio screensaver on the remaining portion of the display. The rest of the computer is hidden behind the 15.4" widescreen WXGA (1280 x 800) display. A camera is mounted at the top of the LB92, and of course there is a built-in speaker and mic. This is great for Skype videoconferencing. Other specs include an Intel Core Duo T5600 (1.83 GHz) processor and 2gb RAM (max).

Hacker ‘DVD Jon’ claims to crack iPhone activation
2007-07-12 04:27:00
Hacker Jon Lech Johansen, known widely as "DVD Jon," has cracked Apple’s iPhone activation, or so he claims, meaning that iPhone buyers will be able to activate and use the new handset without having to commit to an AT&T wireless contract. Johansen announced his feat in a blog post entitled "iPhone Independence Day." The Norwegian cracker initially made a name for himself eight years ago when he cracked the encryption code on DVDs. And last year, he cracked the digital rights management code that prevents iPod users from playing songs purchased from competing online music stores. In his latest effort, DVD Jon has detailed a Windows workaround that he claimed will allow the iPhone to be used as a widescreen iPod and Internet communicator. The cracked iPhone cannot be used to make calls. "I’ve found a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without giving any of your money or personal information to AT&T," Johansen wrote on his "So sue me" blog. "The iPhone does not have phone ...

Talking Trojan Deletes PC Files
2007-07-06 12:53:00
A new Trojan has been talking PCs into being infected, while it simultaneously deletes all the files on the computer and gets away by wishing you a nice day.The BotVoice.A Trojan, detected by PandaLabs, uses Windows text reader to say, "You have been infected I repeat you have been infected and your system files have been deleted. Sorry. Have a nice day and bye bye."These comments are repeated in a loop as the trojan tries to delete all the files in the computer's hard disk. It also renders computers unusable as it modifies the Windows registry so that none of the programs installed on the computer nor the task manager can be run. It also disables the Windows registry editor in order to safeguard its actions.Luis Corrons, Technical Director of PandaLabs said, "This is a very unique Trojan. Not only does it delete computer files, but also makes fun of users. Meanwhile, it does everything necessary to make it impossible to stop its actions."This trojan uses P2P networks, physical storag ...

Yes MMP-8 DVD Multimedia Player
2007-07-06 12:51:00
Most portable DVD players I've come across have a very predictable laptop-style design, which may be bulky, but works pretty well as far as convenience is concerned. Recently, I reviewed the Mitashi portable DVD player that used a tablet PC design to flip and attach the screen to the player so it can be easily fitted to a car's headrest (using it's carry-pouch of course). But the Yes MMP-8 seems like a design that probably will be the best blend of style and ease of use. It looks like a photo frame, but it's a total multimedia player. Brilliant! Now let's see what it can really do. BuildIt's glossy front surface looks very classy with it's minimalistic appearance. All the buttons are moved to the players sides, so all you see on the face of the player is the screen, and minor brandings along with the remote receiver and the indicator light. The clean glossy surface, as always is highly prone to fingerprints. All the player controls are located on the top of the MMP-8. Basic functi ...

Hitachi 42PD9800TA Plasma TV
2007-07-06 11:35:00
To many, plasma is a dying technology. It's power-hungry nature and fragile build along with the inherent phosphor degradation issue have given it a lot of bad publicity, especially from the LCD loyalists. But the truth is that plasma is still a worthy contender as a viable HDTV, thanks to it's unmatchable black levels and better viewing angles. Anyways, that discussion warrants for a whole different feature; right now, we test run the 42-inch Hitachi 42PD9800TA plasma HDTV.BuildThough there isn't anything distinctive about the Hitachi plasma display, it does look pretty sleek. The black and silver color combo matches it with any kind of living room setup. The speakers are placed on either side to the screen making the unit look wider than it is.I really liked the power swivel function of the TV stand, which allows you to swivel the TV on it's base using the remote control itself. Beats the crap out of calling in your man servant to turn the TV around for you, doesn't it!

2007 Jaguar C-FX
2007-07-02 15:07:00
It was born in captivity, but this Jaguar C-FX will still rip up the road!Prepare to be filled with national pride, because this super-saloon is British! It’s made by Jaguar and is called the C-FX. Under the intimidating bonnet lurks a 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine with a massive 420bhp, to ensure it’s got the pace to match its racy face. The ‘C’ in the new Jag’s name should stand for ‘corrr!’ but it actually means ‘concept’. Don’t let that fool you, though – the model will go on sale in 2008, rebadged as the XF, and virtually unchanged from what you see here. It will replace the boring old Jaguar S-Type, which, by comparison, is about as sexy as tweed slippers. So watch out, BMW and Mercedes: the Jaguar’s back on the prowl!“One thing should be abundantly clear whenever people are discussing Jaguar design,” asserts Director of Design Ian Callum. “Jaguars should be seen as modern cars and in the future people will appreciate them for that.” The C-XF is ...

Sony Takes Second Position from Royal Philips Electronics: LCD TV Market in 1Q 07
2007-07-02 15:03:00
iSuppli Corp. of the US has announced results of its survey on the worldwide LCD TV market in the first quarter (1Q) of 2007. Shipments declined 8.0% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to 13.992939 million units. According to iSuppli's analysis, shipments usually decrease QoQ in the 1Q due to a seasonal factor of year-end sale, which takes place in the preceding quarter. By brand, shipments decreased QoQ at top 5 brands across the board. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea, which topped for two quarters in a row, saw shipments drop 7.3% QoQ to 2.354978 million units. The 7.3% QoQ decline was smaller than the market's average shipment decline and the smallest among the top 5 brands. Its share in overall market shipments edged up by 0.13 points to 16.83%. Samsung Electronics' favorable performance is attributed to its good management of manufacturing costs and positive attitude toward sales promotion, according to iSuppli. Sony Corp. outperformed and took the position from the preceding quar ...
