CES 2008: Intel Presented its iPhone-ish Mobile Concepts
2008-01-13 04:16:00
Intel, the Californian microchip manufacturer, revealed back in September 2007 a new mobile concept, similar to Apple's iPhone but with a length that surpasses any othermodern handset's length (and that, of course, isn't a good thing at all). But Intel said the new device, which isn't actually a mobile phone but a UMPC with phone capabilities, brings the Moorestown platform with Silverthorne processor and is able to offer a 10x reduction in power usage. Along with the iPhone-like design and touchscreen interface, that should make a pretty good device, right? Well, until now it is only a nonfunctional concept and it's not clear whether it will be commercially available or not.At this year's CES, Intel came not only with the previous mentioned handset, but with a whole range of iPhone-ish prototype devices based on Silverthorne processors. Unlike the UMPC unveiled last year, some of the new devices are fully functional and are also prepared to be launched during 2008. The devices a ...

Nokia S60 Phones Could Feature 3D Touchless Control
2008-01-12 08:42:00
Since Apple released its multi-touch controlled iPhone, the touchscreen technology has been adopted by many other important mobile manufacturers and it's set to become a standard feature in couple of years. Therefore, Nokia wants to implement the technology in its handsets too, and it will, as back in October 2007 it announced the innovation of the Symbian S60 software with intuitive touch user interface and other useful features. The improved S60 interface, said to be available from 2008, aroused the interest of both Nokia fans and mobile users in general.Recently, a patent filed by Nokia in June 2007 surfaced, showing that the Finnish company is in fact preparing more than we've imagined until now. The next generation S60 mobile phones will come, as announced, with multi-touch user interface and, according to the above mentioned patent, they could also feature 3D touchless control. This 3D touchless control concept might sound a bit vague, but the filed patent is pretty clear about ...

Nokia N82 Review
2008-01-12 04:25:00
f you compare the N82 to the N95, you will find lots of similarities between the two phones. For instance, a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and Carl Zeiss lens and built-in GPS with A-GPS support. Then there's also the 3.5mm audio jack, HSDPA and onboard 802.11b/g wireless LAN. So the big question here is, what sets this latest N-series camera-phone apart from the popular N95? We recently had a sneak preview of the phone before the launch and here's what we found out. UpsideClearly, the most obvious difference between the N82 and N95 is the form factor. The N82 adopts a candy-bar design, much like the N73, though admittedly it didn't feel as solid as the latter. The N95, as we all know, uses a two-way slider which is shorter than the N82 but is also somewhat more bulky and heavier. The most distinct feature in the N82 is the addition of a Xenon flash unit, much like the ones we've seen on the Sony Ericsson handsets such as the K800i and K850i. Generally, cameras with flash uni ...

If my memory serves me correctly, Sony did chide the Wii about their "gimmicky" controls, and here they are playing catch-up by implementing such controls on their handset while trying to tout this feature as something new in the market. Where's the innovation, Sony? ...

3G Nokia 3555 Launched at T-Mobile
2008-01-09 16:19:00
T-Mobile enlarges its range of mobile phones with Nokia 3555, an affordable low to mid-end clamshell with 3G capabilities. The handset will also be available in the US via AT&T,as announced a few months ago, and now FCC approved the UMTS 1700 MHz version of the phone too, so T-Mobile is ready to offer it to its subscribers. Nokia 3555 is the little brother of Nokia 6555, another 3G clamshell that can be bought from AT&T for only $50 (with a two year contract, otherwise its price is $200). The 3555 model looks a lot like 6555 and has about the same dimensions, so, when open, it becomes quite a long device. Furthermore, Nokia 3555 has features similar to the ones packed in 6555, therefore we have MP3 and video player, Bluetooth, microSD card support, polyphonic ring tones and so on. What makes 3555 less appealing than 6555 is the fact that it has a smaller display that only supports a 128 x 160 pixels resolution. Moreover, the clamshell's built-in camera is a 0.3 Megapixel one ...

Windows Mobile 7
2008-01-09 04:13:00
Microsoft is currently developing Windows Mobile 7, the first revolutionary change to its mobile device operating system.Windows Mobile 7 will dramatically change the way we use mobile devices. It will emphasize the use of touch on the device, as well as motion gestures created by using the device. It is, absolutely, Microsoft’s effort to beat back the iPhone, and the iPhone is referenced several times in the document.Windows Mobile 7 will use touch gestures, similar to how the iPhone does. You will be able to flick through lists, pan, swipe sideway, draw on the screen. A lot of emphasis has been put on making navigation easier and doing away with scrollbars, including a new scroll handle that allows for multiple ways of finding items extremely fast.Windows Mobile 7 will use motion gestures, something the iPhone does not. It will not use an intricate and complicated series of gyroscopes and accelerometers. Instead, it will use the camera on the phone to detect motions and create appr ...
