Flickering and Jumping Picture

At first it shows a pretty picture then after about 30 minutes or so the picture starts flickering and jumping and stuff.What should I do to fix that? ...

sony handycam lcd sez 'cover not open'

No image in lcd or viewfinder... sound is recorded but msg 'cover not open' flashes during record and no image is recorded
when cover is closed msg 'cover not open' is present, not flashing
there has been no trauma to the camcorder
