White PS3 To Debut In Japan
2007-10-14 05:46:00
I’m generally happy with any gadget that comes in black, the shinier the better, and I’ve yet to be lured to the White Side Of The Force, courtesy of Apple and a million imitators. Still, there are many who wouldn’t mind a white PS3 to go with all their other angelic gadgets and Terence Conran-inspired living rooms. Sony has announced that Japanese gamers – and only Japanese gamers for the moment – will be getting a ceramic white PS3. The new 40GB white console will go on sale over there on November 11th, so you can expect the eBay bidding wars to commence about 10 minutes later. It will cost around £180 - £95 less than UK shoppers will be paying for the new cut-price, 40GB black console. Sony will also use the occasion to launch the new DualShock 3 wireless controllers – also in black and white – which will see the return of good vibrations. Again, Euro gamers will have to wait until Spring for the return of rumbling.Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...

God Of War PSP Fetches £860
2007-10-14 05:40:00
I loved this one-off PSP when I first covered it back in July and now, I’m happy to report that it has sold, although unhappy that it’s not to me. This stunning, customised God Of War PSP went up for auction on eBay in July, with the goal that some of the money was going to charity, but what’s even better is that the buyer of Kratos’ handheld is none other than Ready At Dawn, developer of the forthcoming God Of War: Chains Of Olympus game for the PSP. Even better, they gave the designer Ramon the red carpet treatment. Here’s what the company said: “We couldn’t let this one pass so we used our ninja eBay sniping skillz to outbid all the competition and claim this really cool piece of hardware all to ourselves…while at the same time doing something cool for Child’s Play. But we didn’t stop there. In order to make sure the PSP wouldn’t get damaged during shipping, we flew its creator Ramon over to Southern California to hand-deliver it, meet the team and get to ...

Sony's Asteroid Speaker For Bluetooth Phones
2007-10-14 05:32:00
Is it a plane? Is it a bomb? No, it’s Sony’s odd little Bluetooth wireless speaker for mobile phones. After dishing up a new raft of Sony Ericcson phones this week, the company also rolled out this dinky little thing called the MBS-100 Bluetooth speaker so that you can inflict your musical tastes on everyone else in the room, wirelessly. Battery life is 5 hours in use and 50 hours stand-by. This audio sphere is hardly small enough to fit comfortably in your pocket – at least not without drawing some curious glances at your crotch – but it’s certainly a little different from the regular mobile phone speakers. You won’t be bringing down the house with its 1.5W output, but you might just get something going on in a bedsit, or closet. It weighs in at 2 ...

Dreamy DAB Radio
2007-10-14 05:20:00
Vita Audio has created a special edition of its award-winning R1 DAB radio called the R1 Dream. It’s certainly dinky and comes dressed, unsurprisingly in white. There’s a decent LCD display and the whole thing is built solidly in a glossy wood and pressed steel box. Taking centre stage is the rotaDial, which Vita Audio, maintains eliminates button confusion by making this one dial the so-called, one button to rule them all. There’s an FM tuner and it also sports ports for hooking up iPods and MP3 players, which is handy for getting those tunes out in the open. At £180, it’s not cheap, but then it comes highly recommended by leading reviews mags. You can find it in HMV, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Selfridges and Harrods, as well as a host of audio stores. -Martin LynchSource – uk.gizmodo.com ...

HP iPaQ hw6900 Pocket PC Series Mobile Messengers
2007-09-30 13:42:00
HP has just officially announced the launch of the HP iPAQ hw6900 series of smartphones, touted as Mobile Messengers. Let's find out why. To begin with there are quite a few ways through which the hw6900s will keep you connected. These include: Quad-band GSMGPRS/EDGEWi-Fi 802.11bGPSBluetoothInfrared The HP iPAQ hw6900 series is also compatible with Skype Mobile software, allowing customers to enjoy high-quality voice calls via high-speed Internet connections. With the hw6900s distance should not be a problem. What's surprising to me though, is the lack of support for 802.11g. It seems to me like a step in the wrong direction. On the GPS front (available on all models), customers in North America get Microsoft Pocket Streets 2006 to provide basic navigation assistance and a 60-day free trial of the HP iPAQ Navigation Software and Maps is included on CD to provide voice- ...

Pictures of Fujitsu’s ‘Multi-slider’ Concept phones
2007-09-24 13:51:00
Fujitsu have shown off two new concept phones featuring a novel four-way slider design called, appropriately (if unimaginatively), the "Multi Slider". The new concept features a keypad that slides out from underneath the mobile phone in all four directions, revealing a different set of keys each time. Just when you thought every sliding variant had been tried in mobile phone land, it seems Fujitsu decided they could go one better! Fujitsu were also showing off another mobile phone concept called simply the Slider. This concept phone features a full QWERTY-keyboard that slides out (in one direction only this time), and is clearly aimed at web browsing or instant messaging. Both of these phones are being exhibited not at CTIA 2006, but at the Triennale di Milano exhibition in Milan. Perhaps the bright lights and endless slot machines of Vegas put Fujitsu off, or maybe no-one had told them a full-scale mobile telecoms exhibition was going on![Source: The Register] ...

HP unveils vision for personal communications
2007-09-18 08:42:00
HP has revealed its vision for the future of mobile devices by unveiling, as a concept, a wearable wireless communications hub. The hub — which resembles a wristwatch and would be worn on the arm — would handle a user's connectivity requirements. All the individual's other mobile devices would then communicate solely with the hub. Phil McKinney, chief technology officer for HP's personal systems group, said, "People want more powerful devices with more memory and more radios, and you have to cram all this in. So we have this concept of a watch, which is something we are driving to. Devices just need to communicate with this watch." McKinney said users would set up a personal area network using ultra wideband (UWB), but also Bluetooth if they were still using today's devices. All the radios for external connectivity — whether 3G, Wi-Fi, WiMax or any other bearer — would be contained in the hub. The hub would also allow a device, such as a s ...

Fujitsu Concept PC
2007-09-18 08:30:00
Shown off at CEATEC, these two Concept Tablet PCs look like something even sexier than MacBooks and MacBook Pros. First there's the Turn Tablet PC, which is a large PC with a magnetic screen and a stylus that runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. It includes a standard keyboard and touch-pad, with a slot-loading DVD drive on the front. The second is a smaller UMPC-like device with the swiveling screen and a PSP/PS3-like UI. We're not exactly sure what the swiveling screen is for, but it sure does look cool. Plan on seeing these in your local Circuit City around the year two thousand and never.
