PS3 Gets Remote Start And Playlists
2007-11-12 09:11:00
With the official US release of the 2.0 firmware patch, PS3 owners are getting the promised remote start feature. Remote Start is an upgrade from the Remote Play feature, which lets PSP owners to switch on their PS3 remotely from a Wi-Fi hotspot and then use the Remote Play feature for accessing music, videos and photos held on the console. Just make sure you leave the PS3 in stand-by first. The update also allows users to set theme and, finally after much user groaning, the ability to create custom playlists for music and photos. There’s also the addition of Information Board, which offers scrolling headlines in the upper-right hand corner of the screen about PlayStation news, games, accessories etc. Thankfully, it can be disabled too.Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...
Retro USB Record Player
2007-11-12 09:07:00
There are a lot of vinyl record players out there that convert your giant audio floppy discs into MP3s, but few that pull off the retro look so well. Speaking as someone who once inherited an old portable record player with detachable speakers and a handle that looked eerily similar to this, I like the idea, even if it is slightly overcooked. Hell, I still wish I had that old player now with its wood veneer finish, clip-on speakers, crackly sound and somewhat ‘wavy’ record-spinning action. This is the Crosley Keepsake USB Turntable which will let you convert your records into MP3s, once you hook it up to your PC and use the bundled software. Even better, if all you want to do is to listen to them you can do that too as the Crosley comes with a 3-speed setting for even the oldest vinyl. Anyone for a 78rpm boogie? Yours for around £77Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...

Wattson: How Much Electricity Are You Using?
2007-11-12 09:03:00
There’s a bit of a green theme going on here this morning [Tesco Mobile Recycling] – I can’t explain it.Still, for those of you concerned about just how much juice all your gadgets and home entertainment kit is costing you, check out the dinky little Wattson. This wireless device will tell you how much electricity you are using in your home, displaying the results in watts or, more usefully, money. A little transceiver is clipped to the wire running between your meter and the fuse box, and the range for the display box is up to 30m. Plonk it in any room and watch just how much your electricity is costing around the house and have some fun by switching off different devices to see how much the total changes. o View how much electricity you are currently using - see if leaving that mobile phone charger turned on actually costs you unnecessary money! o Shows electricity usage in two ways, numerical and colours. Cool blue shows small amount of electricity being used, Red for WAR ...
Nissan Developing Color Changing Paint
2007-11-12 09:01:00
If Nissan has anything to say about it, soon everyone will be James Bonds, changing the color of their car with the flip of a switch. That's because Nissan is developing a paramagnetic iron oxide paint polymer. Using an electrical charge, the arrangement of iron oxide crystals can be tweaked, adjusting the car's color. (It just so happens that metal-bodied cars make for excellent conductive surfaces.) But we're really excited over Nissan's surely bogus but juicy claim to have the technology on the market extremely soon, by 2010 if possible. Oh...except there's one catch.Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...

Kiss Phone Opens Up New Frontier of Teledildonic Possibilities
2007-11-12 07:30:00
In the mad scramble to invent teledildonics devices, an inventor has created a forerunner of the category with the Kiss Phone. Although we're wondering who would want to be seen in public with this odd-looking phone with its downturned mouth that reminds us of a self-masturbation machine, its inventor apparently has high hopes for the design concept. Let's let him explain it: "This KissPhone detects percussion speed, pressure, temperature, and sucking force of the lips, when you kiss it. An artificial mouth on the phone can reproduces same parameters to the kissphone receptor." So now you can send and receive kisses from a distance, and even record your favorites for repeated playback. Anything you can do with data, you can now do with a kiss. Imagine that. Wonder what else the Kiss Phone feels like kissing.Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...

Blu-ray In Your Car
2007-10-29 13:40:00
Not only are Blu-ray players still too expensive for most people to have in their home – although the PS3 is heading in the right direction – Panasonic has been showing off the first in-car Blu-ray player. Just what the point is of a Blu-ray player hooked up to a tiny 7in, non-HD screen is beyond me but the Tokyo Motor Show is all about making headlines, not sense. The drive in this photo above [ugly, I know] was hooked up to a 7in display via HDMI for a demo and it supports all of the key Blu-ray technologies, like BD-Java. There’s no price, nor date for this but since high-def players aren’t even mainstream here in the living room, don’t expect to see it in a car over here any time soon.Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...
Antique Skull Clock Fetches £67,000
2007-10-29 12:58:00
With the clocks having just changed to plunge us all into true winter darkness, here's a timely little timepiece that manages to capture that Halloween spirit almost 400 years after it was meticulously hand-crafted. Our man at Watchismo turns up some great timepieces, from the luxury Vulcania to the Best Watches of The 1970s, comes this Skull clock resting on crossed shin bones and mounted on a brass tri-pod. Built in 1610, the hinged skull reveals the intricate mechanism. "The movements of the automaton jaw and the snakes in the eyes are controlled by two six-spoke cams driven by the fusee and revolving twenty times an hour, so that the jaws take three minutes to open and then close suddenly while the snakes alternately pop out of, then return back into, each eye socket, twice a minute. Height 14 cm, including the base. Back plate signed."Got to love those snakes popping out from the eye sockets every minute. This grisly little number just sold at auction in the US for £67,000. ...

Slim 1TB External Hard Drive From Philips
2007-10-26 04:47:00
It’s pretty, it’s external, it’s a whopping 1TB hard disk drive from Philips. Meet the SPD5130, boasting a super speedy eSATA interface which transfers data up to six times faster than USB 2.0. It also comes with a USB 2.0 interface though for those without an eSATA slot or adapter. The drive boasts a big 32MB buffer so that files being transferred do so without any errors. Unlike other double disk drive solutions on the market, this one is a bit slimmer due it housing just a single hard disk but it’s still capable of handling up to 1 million photos, 250,000 songs or 6 weeks worth of uncompressed video. Philips says the aluminium casing is extra-thick for quiet running and the internal suspension will protect the drive from the inevitable drop off your desk. It comes with one-button back-up and will cost you a cool [i.e. expensive] £299 when it lands next week.Source – uk.gizmodo.com ...
Stick DAB On Your iPod
2007-10-26 04:44:00
Stick DAB On Your iPod October 26, 2007 Read more Entertainment , Gadgets , Gizmodo UK , Music , Radio , iPod Most DAB radios are a bit too big for slipping in your pocket, while iPods could really benefit from a little digital radio action. How about something that solves the problem neatly? This is the tiny Robi, a DAB/FM radio from Roberts that plugs into your iPod and lets you tune into any DAB/FM stations in your area. The plug-in – a first I believe - measures just 52.4 x 32.0 x 8.1mm and is based on Frontier Silicon’s Kino 2 DAB IC. Not only can you pick up the stations and see what they are on the Robi’s display but its controls can be used for controlling your iPod too. Leslie Burrage, chief executive of Roberts, said: “The iPod lets listeners take their music collection with them where ...

Tiny Travel Speaker From IXOS
2007-10-19 03:44:00
IXOS, a company that generally doesn’t do budget-anything, has launched range of dinky little travel speakers. The second product in its new “First By IXOS” budget brand - after the pretty and cheap XMI308 iPod dock - is the colourful XMM238 travel speaker, which runs off batteries and is designed to externalise the tunes held on your laptop, iPod or other MP3 player. Using 4 AA batteries, it will deliver up to 8 hours of playback and, while the 2W speaker is not exactly built for a rave, it should work fine as long as the room isn’t too big and you’re not too far away. Using it with your laptop is a less costly affair since it can be powered off the USB port. The wee cube speaker boasts two side-facing drivers to deliver a wider sound field – or as wide as you can expect from a little square box. Weighing in at 130g, it measures 7 x 7 x 7cm.Available now in places like HMV and Halfords, the speaker [including cables] comes in white, black or pink and costs £15.Sou ...
Intempo’s DAB Radio Is Kind To Your Wallet
2007-10-19 03:23:00
One of the stumbling blocks to getting a DAB radio is that they tend to be quite pricey, at least for a lot of folk. This is why the latest offering from Intempo should attract many of those that are still sitting on the digital radio fence. Considering Intempo recently released the first iPod speaker dock with integrated DAB radio and a new wireless Internet radio, the company seems to be on a bit of a roll. Priced at a shade under £40, the TRS DAB/FM radio looks good and is a bit of bargain to boot. Running off mains or batteries, the retro-looking TRS is not too big at 20 x 10 x 3.8cm and weighs a miniscule 40g. It scans and tunes stations automatically and there are 20 presets for storing your favourites. It comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a range of bright colours including claret, purple, deep blue, silver and black. Out now, you can find the full range at Amazon or ArgosSource – uk.gizmodo.com ...

FingerCam - world’s smallest wireless colour video camera
2007-10-16 05:59:00
FingerCam is apparently the world’s smallest wireless colour video camera. The size of a dime, which when you consider how low the dollar has fallen in currency exchange terms, makes it very small indeed. Of course you’ll need a hulking great 9V battery pack to power it up, so there’s still a limit to how invisible this is, but until the nuclear model comes along it’ll have to do, won’t it? $95.00. Video sample? While many places claim to have the world’s smallest full color wireless video micro camera set, this is really it! About the size of a US Dime (not a US Quarter which is a much bigger camera these days!) This tiny new generation marvel can set on the tip of your second finger with room to spare as pictured above. Concealing this camera is no problem since it’s so small and you will not have to mess with wires! You can hide this anywhere including clocks, lamps, radios, smoke detectors, books, sun glasses, bags, purses, cell phone sea shells, you name it. You c ...
