Olympus E3 Review
2008-01-19 11:59:00
With the release of the new professional grade E3, Olympus has signaled their re-entry into the pro market after allowing their last top-pro body, the E1, to become vastly out-speced by the competition over its 4 year life-span.Eagerly anticipated by the Olympus faithful, I was given an opportunity by Olympus Canada to try out the E3 over the Christmas Holidays and although this is a traditionally slow time of year for assignments, it is rich in family and holiday moments that provide personal photo opportunities. Let’s see how the E3 fared. It’s been an interesting year for Olympus on the DSLR front with the release of three different camera models (E3, E510, E410), a couple of great new lenses (the 12-60mm ED w/ 24-120mm equiv. focal length, the 70-300mm ED w/ 140-600mm equiv. focal length, and two new small lightwieght ED kit lenses with very high quality that will take you from 28-300mm equiv. focal length). They also introduced an ultra fast ring focusing mechanism in the 12-6 ...

First fully Corrected lens for the UV-VIS-NIR Spectrum Introduced
2008-01-17 13:43:00
Jupiter, FL – Coastal Optical Systems Inc. is pleased to introduce the new CoastalOpt® 60mm UV-VIS-IR 1:4 Apo Macro lens.A first in optical design, the 60mm UV-VIS-IR 1:4 Apo Macro provides full apochromatic correction over an extraordinarily broad waveband ranging from the onset of atmospheric ultraviolet transparency at 315nm to the limit of CCD/CMOS sensitivity at 1100nm in the infrared.Ordinary quartz-fluorite lenses cannot be color corrected into the infrared due to limitations inherent in these optical materials. The 60mm UV-VIS-IR 1:4 Apo Macro lens achieves unprecedented correction from UV through IR by combining fluorite and quartz with elements made from carefully selected high transmission glasses. An advanced floating element optical formula, including 5 elements made from calcium fluoride crystal, ensures stunning performance under all conditions. Ghosts and hotspots are eliminated by a combination of optical design and advanced ultra-broadband AR coatings. The product ...

Joby Gorillapod SLR Zoom review.
2008-01-17 13:27:00
Joby’s Gorillapod SLR Zoom is designed for those who want the stability of a tripod, without the inconvenience of lugging one around. Like earlier Gorillapods, flexible jointed legs allow you to securely grab onto almost any object or surface from curved railings to tree branches. Once locked into place you can then comfortably take long or multiple exposures, along with self-timer shots. The big difference with the SLR Zoom Gorillapod is it can support weights up to 3kg, thereby accommodating semi-pro DSLRs, while remaining light and portable. Is it the perfect tripod for you? Sony Alpha 200 - Hands-on Preview
2008-01-17 13:20:00
Sony Alpha 200 - first impressions. The Sony Alpha 200 is very similar to the Sony Alpha 700 when it comes to the body. Naturally, some knobs and dials were removed from the camera to make it less intimidating to beginners, but the ergonomics don't really suffer for it, and in addition, the camera still has all the nice features the Alpha 100 had, and adds a few that were exclusive to the Alpha 700.To be brief - Sony have just made another giant stride forward by making this camera appeal to all those first-time photographers who are familiar with the Sony brand. Not only that, it'll also appeal to Minolta users - there's enough of that old Minolta magic in this camera, so it doesn't feel like a cheap electronic gizmo, but like a real camera. Image quality is very Sony - appealing straight out of the camera, reducing the need for postprocessing. Point and shoot, but only Photoshop if you really want to.By Matjaž Intihar. PANASONIC LUMIX L10 digital SLR
2008-01-17 13:18:00
The low-down: This is Panasonic’s second digital SLR. Like the L1 it is built around the Four Thirds system with a 10 megapixel sensor and a Leica 14–50mm image stabilised lens (28–100 film equivalent). Lens construction is plastic but the operation of the zoom and manual focus is smooth and well damped. The LCD screen swivels, which is a good feature, and there is live view, so that the LCD can be used as a viewfinder. The ergonomics are good, but there is no body-top camera status display. However all the important adjustments are accessible without going into the menu. The viewfinder is a little small and dim compared with the Canon/Nikon competition.more : dpexpert ...

Nikon D3 Review Diary
2008-01-17 13:07:00
This is the first Nikon full frame (FF) digital SLR. The camera is designed more to have low ISO noise than ultimate resolution (actually 12MP is more than many need unless they print really big). The resolution is virtually identical to the Nikon D2x and D300. * 12MP FF CMOS * Fast frame rate (9 fps at full size) * New auto focus module * Live view (not sure yet we will use it much)We use the D3 with the Nikon top zooms: 24-70mm f/2.8 and14-24mm f/2.8. We own ourselves the AFS 28-70mm f/2.8, AFS 17-35mm f/2.8 and AFS 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.This review will first concentrate on the high ISO qualities of the D3. This is where this camera can make a difference if it is up the praise it gets on the net. We liked the D2x quite a bit but limited ourselves to about ISO 400.Uwe Steinmuellermore : outbackphoto ...
