Olympus E-3 audio comparison
2007-10-22 14:23:00
Hear what our review E-3 sounds like - and compare it to the sounds of an E-1 and E-510By popular request, we have produced a video clip of Yours Truly clicking away with our pre-production Olympus E-3 so you can hear what it sounds like. For comparison purposes, we've included an E-1 and an E-510 at work too.All three cameras were fitted with the same Olympus Digital Zuiko 14-54 lens in order to equalise the sound-damping effects that a lens might have. Naturally, we don't have a sound-proofed studio and the video camera and sound recording - actually a Kodak EasyShare V1253 compact digital stills camera (it has a good quality movie mode with stereo mics) - were rather simple, but the result is not bad.Ian Burleymore : fourthirds-user ...

Hands-On With the Nikon D3 DSLR
2007-10-22 01:00:00
I had a meeting with Nikon yesterday and had my first chance to see and handle the D300 and D3. I didn’t really get enough time with the cameras to form a real impression. But I did get to play with the D3 a bit and they showed me the camera’s Liveview LCD display and two of the new Nikkor lenses, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Zoom and the AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Zoom. My first impression of the D3 is BIG. It’s not too big or heavy, but it did surprise me. For a pro body, mass is usually a good thing, adding stability. However, at 2.73 pounds the D3 is about two-tenths of a pound heavier than the newest Canon EOS-1D bodies. Add a pro telephoto Nikkor lens and you’re going to need some muscles to carry this thing around.more : photographyreview ...
Hands-On With The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III DSLR
2007-10-22 00:54:00
I had a meeting with Canon at the PhotoPlus Expo today. They showed me the new 21-megapixel EOS-1Ds Mark III pro DSLR and told me a little more about it. The meeting was short but I did get to play with the camera a bit and since I’ve been using the EOS-1D Mark III I was already familiar with a lot of the features and functionality.Basically, the EOS-1Ds Mark III is a 1D Mark III with a 21-megapixel full-frame sensor with a bigger brighter viewfinder, larger buffer, UDMA CompactFlash compatibility, and the new sRAW format for multiple RAW resolution options. more : photographyreview ...
Leica Introduces Summarit-M Rangefinder Lenses
2007-10-22 00:52:00
Leica Summarit-M Lenses Offer a Lower Pricepoint And Increased Lens AvailabilityAn unexpected result of the new Leica M8 digital rangefinder is that M rangefinder lenses are becoming hard to get. Not only are new lenses backordered, M rangefinder lenses are even becoming scarce on the used market. The M8 has attracted a lot of photographers to Leica and probably reinvigorated many long-term Leica users’ passion for shooting with their Leica gear. More Leica rangefinders in use means more lenses are needed. Leica’s answer to the lens shortage is a new line of four Summarit-M rangefinder lenses, which they showed at the 2007 PhotoPlus Expo in New York City.more : photographyreview ...
PhotoPlus Expo: Final Impressions
2007-10-22 00:33:00
For a journalist, the big news at PhotoPlus was already known in the days and weeks preceding the big event. Nevertheless, the show was a time to renew acquaintances, play with the gear that's been written about, find the hidden gems, and see which booths professional photographers were flocking to.Surprises and MIA'sThe surprise no-show was Hasselblad. This is the first show I can remember when they didn't have a booth, even though they recently introduced a 39MP DSLR that should've been an item of great interest to PhotoPlus Expo attendees.Kodak's booth is the smallest I can remember, perhaps a sign of the company's difficult transition to a mostly digital powerhouse. The biggest surprise is what they were giving away: film! Kodak's press kit included its recent survey which indicated that most pro shooters use film, at least some of the time. Perhaps they're right: the line for free film snaked around the booth most of the day Thursday. more : adorama ...

Olympus E3 Splash Proof Test (Video)
2007-10-22 00:22:00
Even though you own an Olympus E3 or any other weatherproof dSLR it is not advisable to do the following. The less than 1 minute video below is a splash proof test of Olympus recently released E3.The man poured water over the E3 body which was attached with a 12-60 F2.8 Zuiko glass. I am not sure if it survives the test but I personally do have confidence on the new Olympus E3’s built.masterchong ...
