Olympus MF1 - OM Four Thirds Adapter Review
2007-11-19 06:37:00
Olympus MF1 - OM Four Thirds Adapter Review - The Olmpus OM Four Thirds adapter allows Olympus OM users to attach their manual focus lenses onto an Olympus digital SLR body. Peter Bargh sees if his prize 50mm works with the new E3. Olympus, for a while, were once the most popular SLR system going. This was thanks initially to the ground breaking OM-1, with its bright viewfinder, compact size and superbly dampened mirror system. That was followed by the hugely popular OM-10 and then by the pro spec OM-4ti.The system of lenses offered had superb optics in compact bodies and that wide range can still be used today on the new Four Thirds digital system thanks to this Olympus MF-1 adapter.more : ephotozine ...

Sony: When timing is everything...
2007-11-18 06:48:00
Use a Nikon?Or at least that appears to be the message.I opened my copy of Outside Magazine's companion piece of fluff, Go, this morning and was greeted by an ad for Sony's A700 DSLR with the tagline "In Photography, Timing is Everything." The accompanying photograph was spectacular and showed a leopard about to dispatch a baboon. Dust is flying and, clearly, timing has a lot to do with the impact of this photo. It was also very familiar. In fact, it's a 1965 photograph taken by John Dominis for the late, lamented Life Magazine. You can see a version of the originally published photo at Getty Images. In the Sony ad photo, there are some slight differences in the position of the dust and the baboon's mouth but they're clearly part of the same sequence. Perhaps a quarter of a second separated them as Dominis' motor drive clicked away. Gordon Haffmore : cnet ...

A Tips & Tricks Special! Pros, readers, and Pop Photo editors share their secrets for taking your photography beyond the ordinary. When it comes to great photo tips, we find them everywhere. In our daily shooting. In interviews with pros. In our e-mails from you, our readers. On the web. In books. And, of course, on our blog, Pop Photo Flash. Here are some of the best we've come across lately.1) Above It All.Pro wedding photographer Matt Adcock (www.flashflavor.com) goes well beyond the usual reception shots. For instance, he gets a bird's-eye view of the dance floor by mounting his camera on a long painter's pole and firing it with a remote trigger. While Adcock wields the pole and makes sure that his on-camera flash is bouncing off the ceiling, an assistant aims a remote flash covered in a red gel at the dance floor. The result: an amazing overhead shot with rich reds surrounding the well-lit couple in the center of the photo.more : popphoto ...

Nikon 70-300mm VR Zoom Lens
2007-11-17 13:15:00
Image-Stabilizing Technology Makes the Tripod ObsoleteNow, wait a minute, you say. Here I am, looking around your site for camera ideas, and you're showing me a lens? That's right, and as zoom lenses for SLR cameras go, a 70-300mm is pretty standard. We're showing it to you for another reason — the technology inside of it, which may mean the end of the shaky picture. The full name of this particular lens is AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, a mouthful for sure, but for the moment the part that matters is VR, which stands for vibration reduction. Canon and Olympus call it IS, as in image stabilization. Sony calls it Super SteadyShot, and, well, you get the idea.more : abcnews.go.com ...

The Nikon D3 from ISO 200 to 25600
2007-11-16 23:27:00
Nikon has taken a grassroots approach to marketing their upcoming D3 digital SLR, putting it in the hands of professional photographers far and wide in the months leading up to its expected late-November release. And while this practice isn't new, it is uncommon to allow those same photographers to use and distribute the files freely, especially from bodies running relatively early firmware. Such is Nikon's confidence in their first full-frame offering. We've gathered files from three such photographers - Tony Bock, Nick Didlick and David Einsel - as well as photographer/author Peter K. Burian. From ISO 200 to 25600, here are full-resolution examples of what Nikon's new flagship is capable of.Rob Galbraithmore : robgalbraith ...

2007-11-16 23:15:00
The growing popularity of digital single-reflex lens (DSLR) cameras boosted Nikon's sales in Korea by around 50 percent this year and the momentum will continue over the next three to four years, the firm's president Noriaki Yamaguchi said Friday. The Japanese camera maker said that while the market for point-and-shoot compact cameras is already saturated at around 2.2 million units sold in Korea annually, the market of more professional DSLR cameras has grown by around 20 percent to 250,000 units this year.DSLR is the type of camera used by professional photographers and photo journalists for studio and field shoot. They are bulkier and trickier to handle than compact cameras, but are becoming increasingly popular among non-professional photographers, too.``The DSLR sector will continue to expand for the next three to four years,'' Yamaguchi said in a press conference held in Yeouido, Seoul, Friday. ``Our strategy is to specialize in this sector, where we have an edge.''This mont ...
