Nikon Updates D300 & D3 Support
2007-11-27 23:26:00
November 28, 2007: Nikon has released software that allows users to add the three D2X/D2XS Colour mode settings to the Picture Controls on D300 and D3 cameras and extended Windows Vista support for both DSLRs.According to Nikon's website, when these optional Picture Controls are registered with the D300 digital-SLR camera, which supports the Picture Control System, colour reproduction simulating that of the D2X and D2XS is possible. Custom Picture Controls can also be created based on these optional Picture Controls. The three D2X modes have the following effects: - D2XMODE1 simulates colour reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Colour mode setting of I. Skin tones and gradations are reproduced naturally with rich reproduction of tones;- D2XMODE2 simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Colour mode setting of II. This optional Picture Control is suited to images that will be extensively processed or retouched; For more information : photoreview ...

Olympus E-3 DSLR Sample Photos Are Live!
2007-11-27 23:12:00
An Olympus E-3 DSLR review camera arrived on my doorstep on Friday morning. Not wanting to waste any time, I promptly started charging the battery so I could get the studio photo work done. The photos are all done and the camera has been passed on to photographer / journalist Laurence Chen, who did our E-510 review, among others. I think he’s a great choice for the PhotographyREVIEW.com E-3 pro review. In the meantime, all the product shots are done, as are the controlled studio sample photos. I wanted to make the sample photos available immediately, since I know there’s a lot of interest in this camera. They were shot at all ISO settings and are available at full resolution so you can compare them, print them, or evaluate them however you want. We hope to have a complete review done in the next two to three weeks.Photo-Johnmore : photographyreview ...

Nikon show the new D3 and D300 GPS enabled cameras
2007-11-27 22:56:00
Dear Santa, I have been good this year :) please can I have a new Nikon D300 for Xmas?A couple of months ago Nikon announced the latest in their range of Digital SLR cameras, the D3 and D300. These are targeted at the top of the range with a price tag of £3400 for the D3 (yes that is three thousand) and a slightly more affordable £1300 for the D300. Today and tomorrow Nikon are putting on the Nikon Solutions roadshow where they are proudly displaying not just the D3 and D300 but also the full range of Nikkor lenses and lots of other accessories as well. Apart from the shiny, expensive hardware they are also running a series of seminars helping photographers get more from their imaging workflows. The most interesting feature here was the total lack of wet film... Everything was digital.Mike Barrettmore : pocketgpsworld ...

New Camera Accessory Unearthed After Five Thousand Years!
2007-11-27 22:46:00
New York 11/18/07- Monopods, one legged creatures, date back thousands of years to Greek mythology. In photography the name is used to describe a one legged portable device used to stabilize cameras. Monopods are also often used to provide an extended reach although they were not designed for this purpose, until now!Inventor Wayne Fromm, inventor of the Quik Pod, ® the world’s first handheld tripod has now revolutionized the monopod with the Quik Pod ® DSLR (www.quikpod.com/dslr.asp).Fromm has developed the opposite of a traditional monopod and has added a handle to the foot that touches the ground. For the first time in history, photographers have a monopod with a handle for extended reach. Quik Pod® DSLR includes a proprietary built-in wide-angle mirror for self-imaging and overhead viewing. Quik Pod® is one of the favorite perfect travel gadgets chosen by MSN enabling the photographer to be included in photos and videos without asking stranger ...

Nikon D300 Digital SLR Test: Sample Image Gallery
2007-11-26 23:20:00
The new Nikon 12.3 MP D300 Digital SLR is now shipping and available in stores. We have had the opportunity to try out a final production Nikon D300, and have just posted an image gallery with links to full resolution sample images from this exciting new camera. Our Nikon D300 image samples gallery includes tests taken under a variety of conditions and lighting situations. The Nikkor AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED zoom lens was used for most of the D300 test shots and a couple were taken with the Nikkor AF 50mm F1.8 fixed prime, a lens that offers very good results and excellent value for the money. To highlight the great versatility and system compatibility of the D300, we decided to see how the Nikon D300 performs with the legacy Manual Focus Nikkor 45mm F/2.8P lens, which has an excellent reputation for sharpness and overall image quality. The Nikkor 45mm F/2.8P was originally designed as a very compact standard lens (only 17mm thin) to complement the Nikon FM3A, 35mm film camera. The ...

Hello E-3 and bye bye…
2007-11-26 23:17:00
My son is now 19 months old. He has a few favorite words such as bye bye. Well, on Wednesday I received the E-3, Vertical grip, 70-300, and 12-60mm. Really I am tickled pink. Christmas came early for me this year :D, just don’t tell my wife. I bought her some flowers that day, and she ignored the boxes from UPS…. So I am alive for at least one more day. Really my wife is a great lady, who is very patient with me. Olympus has finally revealed the E-3. It has been long to come, but I am so excited about it being here. I will spend as much time over the next few weeks talking about it as possible. I think that they have a winner here. It will change photography, and the all digital system is truly coming into its own. more : fourthirdsphoto ...

HLD4 - The Vertical Grip for the E-3
2007-11-26 23:11:00
Along with the E-3 I also received in the HLD-4.Basically - the HLD-4 comes with a AA battery holder that takes 6 batteries just in case. I do not recommend relying on AA batteries to power the grip. It would be to costly. Instead buy a second BLM-1. But note the HLD-4 can operate with just 1 BLM-1. You will not gain any additional battery power for the camera, but you will gain a vertical shutter release on the body. Some also prefer the vertical grip when holding the camera in a horizontal position. I really like the camera both ways, but I am not picky about that feature. tspore more : fourthirdsphoto ...

UP EVEREST WITHOUT A BATTERY
2007-11-26 23:04:00
ALL THOSE WHINGERS who complain that their digicams are not really foolproof after all should spare a thought for Alfred Gregory.Greg (as his friends know him), was the official photographer on the triumphant 1953 conquest of Everest. The photographs of Hilary and Tenzing that we know so well were all taken by him, using two 35mm and one 120 roll film cameras.Greg’s 35mm cameras – the ones that he carried to the highest altitude – were a Kodak Retina IIa and a Contax III, loaded with 10ASA Kodachrome film. There was no auto focus, no automatic metering and, most important, no batteries.Penguin has published a magnificent book of Alfred Gregory’s photographs, including the Everest pictures, together with a stunning collection from his travels in Africa and a selection of his photos taken in the English resort town of Blackpool. And right now, until the end of February, there is an exhibition of new prints from the Gregory collection at the Monash Gallery of Art in Wheeler’s Hi ...

Pentax rumored to be readying K20D, K200D DSLRs
2007-11-26 23:00:00
While things are still far from official, rumors are starting to pick up that Pentax is set to update not one, but two of its DSLR cameras early next year, in advance of the big PMA show. More specifically, according to Photography Bay, Pentax's K10D and K100D will be getting replaced by the K20D and K200D, respectively, with each bringing with them a number of fairly significant upgrades. If the rumors pan out, the K20D will boast a hefty 14 megapixels, along with a 14 bit RAW A/D Processor, a slightly larger 3-inch "live view" LCD, and improved "in-body shake reduction," among other features. For its part, the K200D is said to pack a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor from Sony, plus a PRIME 12-bit Image Processor, a 3 FPS shooting mode, and a larger LCD that may or may not be a 3-incher as well.Donald Melansonmore : engadget ...
