Nikon Solutions Expo
2007-12-12 22:22:00
Nikon Solutions Expo : Throughout the year various events are organized on the field of photography. Recently the Zoom Experience was held in the Netherlands but unfortunately Nikon were not attending this event. The reason for their absence might be the Nikon Solutions Expo that took place on Friday 30th of November and Saturday 1st of December in Cologne, Germany and will soon take place in Utrecht, the Netherlands. During the Nikon Expo the recently introduced Nikon cameras were available for getting acquainted with and for shooting. Besides that various seminars took place about digital photography using Nikon digital cameras. Even the visitor not in possession of a Nikon camera was able to learn a lot from these seminars.Ralf Jurrienmore : letsgodigital ...

We had some glorious images to choose from, but Cat Vinton’s work really stood out. RHS Photographic Competition 2007
2007-12-10 12:00:00
Sarah Gallifent has taken top honours in the RHS Photographic Competition 2007, sponsored by Medici, and was named RHS Photographer of the Year, winning joint first prize in the Close Up Category. The Devon-based photographer's striking image of Phormium 'Alison Blackman', was selected from over 3,800 entries, from across the UK and around the world. It took the panel of judges two days to decide on the 19 winning photographs in the six competition categories. Chris Young, one of the competition judges and deputy editor of The Garden, had this to say about the entires this year:"The over-riding observation for me this year was that ‘amateur’ photography is no longer a term I fully recognise. The overall quality of the images - in terms of composition, clarity and technical ability - was as good, and in many cases a lot better, than some of the professionals I have encountered in the past. I can honestly say that in each category, the final five or so images were all as good as ea ...

Nikon D300
2007-12-10 11:16:00
The new Nikon D300 seems to live up to all its hype and even exceeds it in a couple of cases, especially high ISO shooting.I say seems because I have only had the camera for 10 days and because of deadlines, have not been able to work with the camera as much as I would prefer. So please consider this as a quick report with more details to follow in the February issue when we will also review the full-frame Nikon D3. The D300 is a major upgrade from the D200. A new 12.3 megapixel DX format CMOS sensor coupled with the Nikon ESPEED image process and 14-bit A/D conversion add up to great images. Also new is the Multi-CAM3500DX Auto-focus sensor with 51 points (15 of them cross-type sensitive) and Auto-focus tracking by color that uses information from the 1005-pixel AE sensor. Its really quick start-up, 13 ms, shutter lag of only 45ms, mirror blackout of 100ms coupled with a six-frames-a-second continuous shooting (up to eight a second if you add the optional improved battery pack) is prett ...

"DSLR Sensor Wars: The Foveon/Bayer Pattern Debate" by Shuttegbug magazine.
2007-12-09 06:16:00
Shutterbug magazine has announced that they will publish an article, entitled "DSLR Sensor Wars: The Foveon/ Bayer Pattern Debate", in their January 2008 issue, addressing the subject of different image sensors used in digital cameras, and their relationship to final image resolution. The article will include comparison images made with three Digital SLRs, including the Sigma SD14 powered by the Foveon direct image sensor, and two pro level digital SLRs from other manufacturers, which use conventional Bayer Mosaic type image sensors. Several subjects were photographed in the experiment. A series of images of each subject were made with each camera, under controlled conditions, using the same type lens, to avoid variations caused by using different types of lens. The raw image files were then converted to high quality TIFF files, using the camera makers’ own processing softwares, to avoid variations caused by possible software issues. The sharpest images from each series were then sel ...

Nikon D3 digital SLR product review - taster - amateurphotographer
2007-12-07 09:00:00
It's possible that more has been written about the Nikon D3 before it has actually come onto the market than there has been about any camera before it. There are several obvious reasons for the unusual amount of interest the D3 has attracted. Foremost, it represents Nikon's first foray into the 'full-frame' digital arena, which until now has been dominated by Canon. The bar has been set very high and Nikon will be keen to show that it can offer a high-quality alternative to the well-established '1Ds' line of Canon EOS DSLRs.Another reason the D3 has attracted attention is that so much about it is conspicuously different from previous Nikon offerings. In the past eight years, Nikon has relied on a two-pronged approach for its professional products, using a single-sensor format (DX) but marketing two different versions of its flagship DSLR chassis – one boasting higher resolution, and the other faster frame capture. Canon was able in the meantime – with the EOS 1D, 1D Mark IIn ...

Nikon D3 Sample Photos - letsgodigital
2007-12-07 08:24:00
Nikon D3 Sample Photos : During a short stay in Florence, Italy, I used the new Nikon D3 professional digital SLR camera mainly in the evening and on many beautiful historical places, mostly inside museums and old buildings, to take a number of test pictures. Already various reactions of preproduction model testers and professional photographers have been published and in general one can say that the Nikon D3 is an impressive new Digital SLR and a strong weapon for Nikon to (re)gain their share of the professional photography market. I have used the Nikon D3 in combination with the new AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED and the AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lenses and additionally the 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor. Take a look at our Nikon D3 sample photos!more : letsgodigital ...
