Nikon D300 Review
2008-01-10 12:13:00
The Nikon D200 was a truly great camera that offered professional performance at an enthusiast's price. Even now, its 10-megapixel CCD sensor can easily hold its own compared with similarly-priced rivals, and the robust build quality was - and still is - out of this world. But Nikon clearly thought that it could do even better. And the result of its thinking is the brand-new D300, a camera that looks outwardly like the D200 but which includes a number of highly significant technical advances and real improvements when it comes to image processing. The most notable of these improvement is the new 12.3-megapixel CMOS sensor which is remarkably 'similar' to the Exmor model used in the new Sony Alpha A700. Of course, adding two million extra pixels isn't going to make much difference to the image quality, but this isn't just a reheated version of the old sensor.Nikon's swapped from CCD to CMOS technology with a brand-new and advanced sensor design that delivers more than just a few ex ...
Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 First Impressions Review
2008-01-10 12:10:00
After a year-long stint as the company’s debut DSLR, the A100 finally has a successor. It isn’t much different, though: Sony markets it as "faster, lighter, and easier to use," according to their January 6 press release. The Sony ? DSLR-A200 comes with the same 10.2 megapixels and many of the same features, like built-in optical image stabilization and dust removal systems. When the A100 was released a year ago, it sold for $899 with a kit lens. The new Sony A200 will still come with a lens, but will retail for much less at $699. It will be available in February.Physical TourFrontThe Sony DSLR-A200’s front looks very similar to its predecessor. It has the molded hand grip on the left with a thick divot near the top for the index finger. Also near the top is a sensor for the optional remote control. Behind it, the jog dial and shutter release button can be seen, although they are more visible from the top.To the right of the hand grip is the ? A200 label, printed in white. The l ...

Sony A300 Rumors
2008-01-09 09:19:00
That’s right - the A300. The photo gearheads acknowledged the announcement of the Sony A200 with a collective sigh and dove head first into rumors of the Sony A300.Granted, these rumors have their genesis before the official announcement of the A200 - along with rumors of the A900 (or whatever Sony’s flagship will be called). However, the rumor mill has clearly flourished in light of the underwhelming announcement of the A200.In case you’re not up to speed, Sony announced the A200 on January 6th at CES in Las Vegas. It’s clearly an entry level DSLR at $700 in a kit with the 18-70mm lens. The price and features of the A200 have spurred the suspicion that Sony has got something bigger planned for PMA.Several Sony gearheads believe that Sony will slot at least one camera, if not two, between the A200 and the prosumer A700. That’s not just smoking rope and talking smack - there’s a method to the madness. The Sony A200 kit rolls in at $700, while the A700 retail is $1500 in the ...

2008-01-09 09:00:00

As such it's an ideal time to revisit our Sony 75-300mm lens review with a brand new video tour, using the Alpha A100 body. Olympus E-3 Review
2008-01-09 08:45:00
The Olympus E-3 is the new flagship of the Four Thirds Standard-based Olympus E-System. This long-awaited replacement for the original E-1 model offers a plethora of advanced features to tempt the professional photographer away from the competition. The E-3 boasts the world's fastest auto-focusing speeds when used in conjunction with the new Supersonic Wave Drive lenses, one of which we test out in our review (the 12-60mm SWD lens). Fast shutter speeds of up to 1/8000th second and 5fps continuous shooting with a 19 image RAW buffer ensure that you'll never miss a shot. A 10 megapixel Live MOS sensor, built-in image stabiliser which stabilises all lenses, Live View on a multi-angle 2.5 inch LCD screen and the Supersonic Wave Filter dust reduction system complete the headline specs. Olympus have taken a long time to get the new E-3 just right, but is it a case of too little, too late? Can the Olympus E-3 compete with and even surpass the likes of the Canon EOS 40D, Nikon D300 and Sony ...
Sony Alpha A200 - sample images
2008-01-08 13:56:00
Today at CES amongst OLED TVs, the Mylo handheld and Rolly robotic music companion, Sony announced the third Alpha DSLR, the A200 - and we were there to try it out! The A200 is like a compact version of the A100. It's smaller and lighter than its predecessor, with a slightly bigger 2.7in 230k screen, but the same 10.2 Mpixel CCD sensor. The AF system remains 9-point, but the speed is noticeably quicker and it's a little quieter too. The Alpha A200 should be on sale in February for $699 USD in a kit with the DT 18-70mm lens. We took the opportunity to take some sample images with a final production model across its entire sensitivity range! See our Sony Alpha DSLR A200 sample images.more : cameralabs ...

Nikon D3 Digital Camera Reviewed
2008-01-08 13:22:00
Every one waited for Nikon to move up to the next level of digital sensor size, the "full-sized" FX or 35mm-like solution. Years went by and seemingly nothing happened. We admired Nikon's clever ergonomic solutions and at least some of us ogled the high-ISO performance of the competition with a little envy. Then, Nikon struck back with a camera advertised to "defy the limitations" no less. The D3 is not only a 35mm-frame camera, it is so much more and with high-ISO performance unheard and undreamt of as well. With a blazing firing rate up to 9 fps(FX)/11 fps(DX), this is a sports and action shooter's dream camera come true. But what can it achieve for other fields of photography? In this review, I shall try to elaborate these aspects of this new Nikon DSLR. Consider this more akin to a personal travelogue written as I made myself familiar with the D3 rather than a compilation of features. The D3 is the first FX format digital camera from Nikon, and as such being eagerly awaited by dieh ...
