Not Even One Vote???
2007-11-13 12:48:00
One of my free agent pickups got completely hosed in the AL ROY voting.
Which of these two pitchers do you prefer? Which do you think had a better season?
Is there any great difference here? The seasons are almost identical except in a few respects; K rate, xERA and Wins. But by any account, if you were choosing who had a better season or which season you would prefer you would be hard ...

Scouting reports on Hughes, Bailey and Gallardo
2007-11-13 10:35:00
As promised, from Keith Law, Director of Scouting for ESPN.
Thanks again to Keith for helping me out with scouting reports. Keith is one of the best at his job, and you should be reading his work over at ESPN. Here they are:
Hughes: Before he pulled a hamstring back in May, Hughes would typically work at 90-94 mph with an above-average curveball with a sharp downward break. Wednesday night ( ...

Who To Keep Among NL Hitters?
2007-11-12 09:30:00
Looking at my NL roster and deciding who should be kept. Next up will be NL pitching and then my AL roster. It is an interesting group of players, since considerations other than the mere fact of whether they will be profitable next year are the key factors to consider.
We are getting close to the beginning of winter trading season in my high stakes league, so it is time to start dusting off the ...

Fact or Fluke?
2007-11-06 07:52:00
At First Pitch Arizona, Baseball Prospectus' Joe Sheehan had some thoughts on various players and whether their 2007 season was a fact or a fluke. Here are some of my thoughts.
In a Baseball Prospectus "Unfiltered" post (their blog) Joe Sheehan, one of my favorite baseball writers, discussed his participation in a "fluke or fact" presentation at Ron Shandler's First Pitch Arizona. I wish I ...

Keeping Managers by Keeping Players
2007-11-02 10:22:00
To keep or not to keep? That is the question for our new league.
Last week I introduced for examination our guinea pig fantasy league (please note it is not made up of actual guinea pigs). To summarize its post-season situation, it is a twelve-man head-to-head league, and while the most active managers rose to the top and the least active sank to the bottom, there is a group of managers in the ...

Why I Hate The League E-Mail Trade Solicitation
2007-10-31 09:03:00
Why do people use the league email to solicit trades? This is poor strategy in my view and here's why.
In one league I am in, a keeper dynasty draft league, I am a background adviser with a co-owner. He is my partner in the high stakes league, and since I run that team, he essentially does the day-to-day management of this other team. So I essentially act as a consultant for this team, and get ...
