Some Changes to the Site
2008-01-24 10:54:00
Here are a few changes we are making this year:
1. The new domain name is www.fantasybaseballgenerals.com, no more "blogspot.com" address.
2. We will be having a few more ads, hopefully they won't be too intrusive. If this makes anyone really unhappy let me know. But I have to try to make my costs back at least, so I hope no one feels too strongly against this.
3. As always, I am interested ...

The Kotsay-Devine Trade
2008-01-23 07:46:00
Despite being, on the surface, a fairly benign trade, it is profoundly interesting.
I have to admit that I absolutely love this deal. It is a real life example of getting a cherry for a lemon, and shows what a brilliant strategist can do even in a mundane transaction.
With Devine we have a guy with obvious gifts and obvious flaws. He has walked just about 9 batters per 9 innings in the bigs in ...

Goodbye THT, Hello RotoTimes!
2008-01-19 14:17:00
I am sorry to report that I will be moving on from the Hardball Times blog, as I am accepting a position at RotoTimes.com. I will still be discussing the same topics and will still be posting here almost daily throughout the season, so no real changes for the blog. But please feel free to check out my articles at RotoTimes starting 2/4. I will of course be posting links here. If anyone ever has ...

Competitive Balance via Sandwich
2008-01-18 07:51:00
One final tweak to league rules before the start of the season.
It's a new year, and with it come the signs of a new fantasy season--mock drafts, draft crib sheets, and the first, probing questions from fellow managers about who you might be valuing this year. In our young league, we have the stat categories tweaked for the second season, new keeper rules in place, and new managers to replace ...

Value and the Learned Minority
2008-01-08 09:23:00
Some more thoughts on the concept of value.
In response to my last column, the most frequent question I have been asked is whether I am merely saying that we cannot judge whether we have gotten value at the time of the auction. Yes I am saying that, but on a deeper level what I am saying is that the basic paradigm by which players are obtained is flawed especially at the top of the auction ...

The Mirage of Value
2007-12-26 08:23:00
Getting hung up on value can be dangerous to your fantasy team's health.
This may be a controversial topic. Most fantasy owners get so hung up on the concept of value that they do not realize it is a bit of a mirage. Let's assume that when we discuss the concept we are talking about value as "the produced worth in excess of projected worth" for a given player. We can quibble about the ...
