Now Ljungberg Has Gone - Who Will Wenger Now Buy?
2007-07-24 06:54:28
Well he has finally gone to West Ham( which still picks up manyof our players who have passed their sell - buy date!). Sad to see him go and will have many happy memories of his performances for us but they all seem to be about at least 3 years old!
Unfortunately, recent injury problems have taken away Freddie's pace and his ability to beat the defenders in front of him. Last season some of his performances were almost embarrassing compared with those way back in the past and like Pires and other players who have reached 30years of age,it was time for him to move on. Wenger, surprisingly, wanted to keep him apparently - maybe realising that there are now too few players in the squad who have experience of winning trophies and who could influence the many younger players that we now have in the team.
Ljungberg usually played on the right wing but could be called upon to play up front when our forwards were hit by injuries and suspe ...

Goodbye And Goodluck Freddie… You Will Be Missed
2007-07-23 06:37:46
We love you Freddie, because you've got no hair, We love you Freddie, because you're everywhere, We love you Freddie, cos' you're Arsenal through and through
Well unfortunately he won't be Arsenal through and through anymore. I remember reading that Wenger had signed Ljungberg after watching him play against England for Sweden on TV! I thought that was a strange move and was quite skeptical as to how Freddie would perform for us.
His first appearance for us answered that question. He came on as a substitute and scored against the mancs and I cannot remember anyone having a more memorable debut than good old Freddie.
He was instrumental in the 2001-2002 season, popping out from nowhere and scoring plenty of goals in the league and cups with that red stripe on his head.
The last couple of years he hasn't shown great form and has been plagued with injuries. He's shown glimpses of the player he used to be and I was hoping he'd ...

Eleven Myths About Kroenke And The Takeover
2007-07-22 07:32:22
Hello. I’m a very new gooner and this is my first article. I’ve followed Arsenal for about eight years, seduced by the beautiful football of the Invincibles. When the wheels started to come off that project, that would have been the time to “discover” that actually I’d always liked Man United. However, I found that I felt even closer to the team and felt its pain like it was my pain. At times last season, watching them endlessly dance around in front of goal without actually threatening it in anyway, I would wince as unwelcome comparisons with the Portuguse national side sprang to mind. But it never occurred to me to walk away. In fact, I started doing things I’d never done before - reading blogs, looking up news about Arsenal on the internet, reviling the twin walruses Martin Jol and Fat Sam… That was when I realised – I had become a proper fan.
So, about the prospect of a takeover. Most fans have very strong opinions ...

We All Want The Same Things… Don’t We???
2007-07-21 09:50:52
I changed job recently and at my new work place the only website I can access is the BBC site. So in order for me to get my daily fix of Arsenal news I spend as much time as possible going through the articles and have started, and subsequently stopped, reading the message boards. Many of the arsenal fans on the message boards there seem to have very, if not extremely different views on the club to myself. It has made we wonder over the last few days and weeks, “surely if we’re all fans of the same team, we must want the same things for them and from them”.
I love Arsenal and have done for 20 years or so now. I don’t claim to know exactly what is best for the club, but I do have very strong opinions on the club and issues surrounding it. It seems strange to me that many of the people writing on the BBC boards, not all I should add, seem, in my opinion, to miss the point on some glaring issues, mainly the possible b ...

Ecclestone Not Ruling Out Arsenal Involvement
2007-07-21 04:47:56
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone denied talks with Arsenal about a possible takeover bid on Saturday but said he was always open to offers.
"I don't know too much about that, actually," the billionaire told Reuters at the European Grand Prix when asked about a report in the Mirror newspaper suggesting he could be interested in the Premier League club.
"It's good if somebody is saying that, because maybe I will be approached and maybe it will be cheap," added the 76-year-old, who considered buying into Chelsea before the arrival of Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
"I'll buy anything if it's cheap enough," he said.
"If somebody offers me something that I think is good value, I'll have a go." Ecclestone confirmed that his daughter Tamara was dating the son of former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, who left the club in April.
Dein, close to manager Arsene Wenger, was the man credited with much of the No ...

Arsenal 3-0 Genclerbirligi
2007-07-19 14:23:16
Bacary Sagna and Eduardo made debuts as Arsenal began their Austria tour by beating Genclerbirligi 3-0 at Bad Waltersdorf Stadion on Wednesday night.
The French full back played the first half and the Croatian striker came on for the final 21 minutes in this comprehensive victory over the side that had finished sixth in the Turkish League last season.
Robin van Persie scored two of the goals but the other player on the scoresheet, Theo Walcott, really took the eye. The 18-year-old supplied an exquisite pass for Van Persie to slide home Arsenal's first with the final kick of the first half. Six minutes after the break Emmanuel Adebayor and Denilson set up the former Southampton winger to fire low into the far corner.
The two accomplices in that move also deserve a mention for their performances. Adebayor was eager and industrious, Denilson assured and efficient. The Togolese striker set up Van Persie for his second in the 63rd minute.
Overall, it was an excellent w ...

Arsene Wants Abdul-Salam Bilal And Other Topics…
2007-07-19 11:58:49
I wonder how many people will be clicking on this link after seeing it on Arsenal News Now and wondering "who??".
Well to those that don't know; Abdul-Salam Bilal is Nicolas Anelka's Islamic name.
It's once again been rumoured that Wenger wants Anelka and the board don't want to get him blah blah. How many rumours have there been floating around recently? The funniest was that Pallacio guy where the rumour was started by one blogger and repeated around the world by the press as it being a fact!
I do like Anelka and I think it would be awesome to have him back. He'd score plenty of goals for us but how much truth is to the story that the board have refused permission to buy him? Can you imagine a board that want to do anything to keep Wenger stopping him from doing something that he wants? As much as I would love for Anelka to come back; I have a feeling that this story is just another whole load of rubbish recirculating.
Take the Obaf ...

Let’s Have A Player Survey!
2007-07-18 15:47:04
I loved the responses to my last blog so I thought of compiling a list made up of votes. Not sure how many of you would do it but I figured this keeps us from the boredom of pre-season and away from all the rubbish stories going around. If we say everyone submits a comment by picking a 1,2 and 3 (so mine would be Bergkamp, Wright, Henry) and we give 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. Give it until this time tomorrow and add up the scores. Let's see if we can make up a top 5 or top 10.
Leave your top 3 below in comments and we will add the scores up tomorrow and see who comes top….

Rivals – Chelsea
2007-07-18 11:31:40
Right, Liverpool and Spurs done. Next up it’s the Roman Empire.
Last year was a tough one for Chelsea. Despite winning two trophies (one makey-up one and one real one) most of their fans would have to concede that the season didn’t work out the way that they had hoped. The two prizes that they were aiming most for were the Champions League (where they were once again undone by Liverpool) and the Premiership (were a resurgent United deservedly took the title). So for those two targets they batted 0 for 2. They did have very bad luck with injuries loosing both goalkeepers in the one game is particularly bad luck but all teams have injuries at some stage. Terry, who previous to last season seemed near invulnerable also had to take a good chunk of time out. Being without their goalie and main centre back for a few games proved costly and they fell away from United perhaps as a result of this. Or perhaps we are not giving United enough credit?
The Blues won both ...
