$200,000 mistake at BetFair Poker
2008-02-10 07:15:01
I've been reading at a couple forums about BetFair's software glitch that caused about a $200,00.00 mistake on payouts this past month . This caused the software to pay every player in a six-pack sit and go game the 2nd place prize money, apart from the winner who got the normal payout. This gave everyone at the table a profit on their buy-in . I see where some folk actually think that it was ok that a lot of these folk took advantage of this and cashed out . Since when is it ok to gain from anyone's misfortune ? I'm sorry people , but I just think this shows the true character of a man . To knowingly do this, in my opinion , is nothing short of stealing . The problem happened last month when certain players caught wind of what was happening . Many players went to testing the situation out over and again, at higher and higher stakes. This eventually lead to an unusual large amount of traffic in BetFair's $1000 six-pack sit and go's. Hundreds of these g ...

18 year old wins $1.4-million poker jackpot
2008-02-07 07:39:46
Online poker has really opened the doors for a lot of younger people to the poker world . With the low buy-ins online for the satellite games we have saw all the main poker events have a larger player base each year . From the WSOP to the European Poker Tour, you see a large amount of online players make the field at little to even no cost at all to get there from rooms like Full Tilt as well as new comers like Walker Poker .The latest example is 18-year-old Mike McDonald who has just recently won $1.4 million in a poker tournament in Germany. That makes him the youngest player ever to win a European Poker Tour event. The Waterloo, Ont., native learned how to play poker after a chess teacher told him that he could make some good money by playing online. Mike McDonald went on to make about $10,000 in his first year of online play and says he went on to win hundreds of thousands more in the following months !This young pro has played countless hours of poker online and has now rece ...

Super Tuesday - Candidates stance on Poker
2008-02-04 11:48:47
With Super Tuesday being tomorrow , I thought it might be a good time to refresh everyone's mind on where all the remaining candidates stand on online poker and gambling in general . Technically it is still not illegal under federal law to play poker online in the United States. (Though a few states do have laws against it.) The UIGEA only made payment transfers to gambling sites illegal.According to the Poker Players Alliance and Poker Listings.com, this is both the Republican and Democrats stance .The Republicans Mike Huckabee - An ordained Baptist minister, he has promised to veto any legislation passed by Congress legalizing online gambling in any form. His response to a questionnaire from the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling is highlighted: “Last year, Congress voted overwhelmingly to criminalize most forms of Internet gambling. This year some members of Congress are promoting legislation to legalize Internet gambling. If such legislation passed, wou ...

Charity Poker Tournament News
2008-02-03 08:53:40
Just wanted to let everyone know the outcome for the 5Th Street Charity Ball yesterday . We had 68 players show up to help the Make a Wish Foundation and we raised $136.00 for the children . That may not sound like a lot of money , but through the months the money does add up . I hope to soon be getting the total amount raised to date . I do want to congratulate one Micky08 who won the game . Wear that new accolade with pride .I got busted out fairly early myself when I was dealt the hooks. The blinds were at 20 and I raised to 100 and had one caller . The flop came K-A-K and I checked , as did the caller . The turn came J giving me my boat.........I'm thinking by this time that the other player might have A-Q or A-J . I push allin , he calls and shows me that he's holding the bullets ! All I could say was well played.........his check at the flop had trapped me like a deer in a set of head lights. We here at the House of Poker Blues have a poll going at the forum as well folk . After ...

2008-01-27 08:17:59
It's been long over due in my opinion , but there are plans for an early February induction of the first four members to the Women's Poker Hall of Fame. The first four ladies who will be inducted are Susie Isaacs, Barbara Enright, Linda Johnson and Marsha Waggoner. Congratulations ladies .Susie Isaacs gained poker fame at the 1996 WSOP when she won her first bracelet in the Ladies stud event. Isaacs has a distinguished career of wins and cashes that span over 20 years in poker .Barbara Enright's career spans over 30 years. My list of Poker Manners / Etiquette
2008-01-24 07:20:20
I've been reading a lot of forums lately and I'm seeing a lot of talk out there about rude and discourteous players . While I know it can be a touchy subject , I'm going to list my opinion on poker etiquette . 1. Be nice - It is not the dealer’s fault you missed that straight , and it sure ain't Imafish's fault . Don’t yell , swear or laugh at them , instead spend that time thinking of how you might change your game plan to beat them in the long run . Remember that Poker used to be known as a Gentlemens game , lets try and keep it that way......2. Know the basics - Beginners don't need to know every aspect of the game such as odds and outs , but at least know hand rankings and basic play before sitting down with others. Not every hand calls for allin preflop ,do some research and read books to further your knowledge of the game , you'll be glad you did ........3. Get a move on - You might think it's cool to drag ...

Weekend News at the House of Poker - 1/22
2008-01-22 07:06:14
Hello folk . Didn't have a lot that happened at the House of Poker Blues over the weekend other than the league game at Nordica Poker . The league game this past Saturday was pot-limit 7 card stud . It was a small field , only six of us , but what a battle it turned out to be . After two hours of solid play , with just a bit of luck on a couple hands , I managed to win yet another of the league games .There's not but seven games left for this season , and it looks as though I have all but wrapped up the season championship , but that doesn't mean you can't still join the games , we'd love to have everyone come out and play . The games are played on a friendly manner and is some very solid poker for the most part . It's also a good way to learn the different poker games at a low cost , only $2.20 buy-ins . We still have some 5 card draw and 7 card stud along with hold'em left to play . Other than that , I just been spending the weekend helping out with the new grandson . Tha ...

Democrats stand with online gambling .
2008-01-20 08:42:33
I thought I'd post what the top three Democrats stand with online gambling is . As far as I know it's pretty much a washout with the Republicans. I've heard McCain , Huckabee and Romney all say that they don't see how the internet could ever be regulated....First off we have Edwards . I like Edwards and where he stands on most issues, but he does oppose legalization of online gambling and doubts that it can be controlled. Well Mr. Edwards , I'm sorry to say that that alone has cost you my vote . You and the other two are almost the same on every issue but this , so you will not be getting a vote from me . I'll never understand how online porn can be legal , but not gambling....Second we have Obama . Obama is a poker player himself and admits that he likes a good cash game . Obama says he worries that the Internet is “a Wild West of illegal activity”. He supports a study of Internet gambling and supports regulation to address the worst abuses. Mr. Obama , thank y ...

Weekend News at the House of Poker - 1/15
2008-01-15 07:01:24
I'm a day late with this post so my apologies, but I was a might busy around the house yesterday . I did manage to get a couple little things accomplished over the weekend though , the first was winning the league game that we hold over at Nordica Poker . :-)The big thing I got done was changing up the Charity Ball game we have at Carbon . The table was getting a might old looking and it needed a new look . Something more in line with the newest software . So I got hold of my affiliate manager Shane from over there, and he got right on the ball with the changes for me . The table will now be a nice blue color with a new slogan on the table and they'll be a guitar standing up in the corner of the room . It looks right snazzy and I hope that folk will like it , so make sure to come check it out come Feb. 2nd . The design is the same one that was used when I had hosted one of the BPT games from last year . Other than that there's not a lot of changes that most players will notice ...

Playing Position in Poker
2008-01-08 06:51:05
Position is something that can pay off big at the poker table for every game of poker, but here we will be talking hold'em . This is something that is all too often overlooked by the noobs (beginners) of the game. Most experienced players have learned to use position at the table to their full advantage . To become a good solid player, you really need to learn poker strategy and use your position at the table . Where the dealers button is determines your position in each hand . The first players to act on each betting round are known as players in ‘early position’ . The last few players to act on each round are known as the players in ‘late position’. It goes without saying then that the players in between these two groups are known as players in ‘middle position’. The button is the best seat in the hand because that player will be acting last on every round of the hand, ex ...

Weekend News at the House of Poker - 1/07
2008-01-07 10:39:39
I don't have a lot to report on today other than we did have our monthly Charity Ball Tournament over at Carbon Poker to help the Make a Wish Foundation this past Saturday . I'd like to say we had a huge turnout , but I can't really . We did have a few more players than last months tourney with 57 players making the game though . With half the buy-ins going to the children , that came to 147.00 raised for the foundation . I'm hoping that we get a bigger turnout in next months game . ;-) I had a terrible finish when my big slick cost me the game . The flop had come j-4-k rainbow and with only one other player in the hand I thought I had the hand and pushed . I had put them on a-j when they had just made a min. raise preflop and was dead wrong....they were holding the hooks and it was over for me at 37th spot . oops .While I'm here I also just want to apologise to anyone that might be trying to visit the forum and having problems doing so . The forum has been running mighty slow the ...

A run of bad luck or just card dead .
2008-01-05 06:44:52
It's bound to happen sooner or later if you play poker ....that run of just bad luck , when you just can't get a hand that holds up . It happens to us all , but what separates the real player from the noobs is how we handle it . I have see so many lose there entire bankroll trying to force a hand , and that's just one of the biggest mistakes anyone on the felt can make . You must remember that bankroll management is the number one key to being successful in poker . Hard to play if you have no funds to do so..... I tell folk that it pays to just play smaller stakes when that bad run comes , or to even take a break from the game . Sometimes that break can do a player a world of good . Maybe read a book or just watch some poker on TV. The last thing you want to do is get aggressive and try to recuperate your funds in a short time....slow and easy is what I do . ;-)Chris Ferguson from over at Full Tilt Poker just done a piece on Bad Runs , and he says ; "Whatever you do, howev ...
