A run of bad luck or just card dead .
2008-01-05 06:44:52
It's bound to happen sooner or later if you play poker ....that run of just bad luck , when you just can't get a hand that holds up . It happens to us all , but what separates the real player from the noobs is how we handle it . I have see so many lose there entire bankroll trying to force a hand , and that's just one of the biggest mistakes anyone on the felt can make . You must remember that bankroll management is the number one key to being successful in poker . Hard to play if you have no funds to do so..... I tell folk that it pays to just play smaller stakes when that bad run comes , or to even take a break from the game . Sometimes that break can do a player a world of good . Maybe read a book or just watch some poker on TV. The last thing you want to do is get aggressive and try to recuperate your funds in a short time....slow and easy is what I do . ;-)Chris Ferguson from over at Full Tilt Poker just done a piece on Bad Runs , and he says ; "Whatever you do, howev ...

Walker Poker - Great poker room for U.S. players too !
2008-01-03 11:42:34
If you are looking for another great poker room to play , I have found just the room . The site is U.S.A. friendly and does have what I consider to be the best option to fund your gaming available , epassporte . The site is Walker Poker and has an average player base of 3000 to 4000 online at any given time . They have what I consider to be the best skin and some of coolest features of any site you can find , like rabbit hunting .Rabbit hunting is exposing the top cards of the deck at the online poker room to see which cards would have shown up next, and check whether they would have won if you had kept playing the hand. This might be applied in case of a hand won before dealing the river or turn card because all other players have folded. At Walker Poker they let the winner choose, so when you win a hand before showdown you can chose weather to rabbit and show your opponents your bluff , or that they were right to fold. The only price is that you will need to show your h ...

Fox News supporting the online gamblers ?
2008-01-02 08:59:49
I've been saying all along that the internet gambling laws need to be brought to the publics attention more through way of prime time network news channels . Here where I'm at I have yet to see anything on the television or the newspaper myself , and I know for a fact that most folk around here have never even heard of the UIGEA . Much less what it means. The problem is that if you don't play online poker or the casinos , chances are you've never heard of it . The law does not make online gambling illegal here in the States mind you , it just bans banks from allowing money transfers to and from gambling sites . That's the simplest way I know to put it . That makes it very hard to play most sites that have casinos , but for online poker sites it's still fairly easy as long as they don't have casino games . A couple online wallets have stuck by our side and say that online poker is a game of skill and NOT gambling . I have to say I agree with this 100% . The proof ? Ju ...

Promoting Doyles Room Once Again
2007-12-30 09:16:21
Yep , you've read correctly . The House of Poker is now promoting Doyles Room . When they pulled out of the U.S. market after the UIGEA law came about I had pretty much washed my hands of them till I could find out all the whys and what nots . I guess you could say I was a might upset with the whole thing to say the least . Doyles Room turned into something of a drama story following the introduction of the UIGEA when sites on the tribeca network were no longer open to American players. Without a doubt Doyles Room wanted to remain open to U.S. players , so when the Tribeca Network was sold to the iPoker Network , which is closed to the U.S.A. , they were left in limbo looking for a U.S. friendly network. After quite a spell the room finally settled on the Microgaming Network for its new home. Doyles Room will now benefit from increased traffic at the network which boasts quite the list of tournaments and ring games to play . Another thing I really like about the site ...

Germany Banning Online Gambling January 1st
2007-12-28 07:52:06
Bad news for our friends from Germany . It looks like they will be banning online gambling come the first of the year . According to Bloomberg.com , online gambling will be banned in Germany as of Jan. 1 after German states ratified an accord that preserves the country's state monopoly for lotteries and most forms of betting. It seems that 13 of Germany's 16 states have voted to approve the new online-betting laws .This leaves me to wonder who's next , and my guess would have to be Norway . Back in October I had found an article saying that they would in all likely hood be doing just that by spring of next year . The legal adviser to Norway's Ministry of Culture, Rolf Sims , stated at an Internet gambling conference in Barcelona that the country was drafting laws that mirror the U.S. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act . As we all know , that has made it very difficult to fund online gambling here in the States . Keep in mind though , that online poker rooms are still ...

2008 National Heads Up Championship Announced
2007-12-27 07:01:14
It has become an honour for poker pros and even celebrities to be invited to the 2008 National Heads Up Championship . The event is telecast across the United States on NBC and happens to be one of the shows that I really enjoy watching as well . It will be played at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and some of the invitees have been announced .According to Poker.com , the first twenty invitations for the sixty-four player tournament have been sent . As always there are some big names and it's no surprise that Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, Chris Ferguson, Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang were amongst the first to receive a letter from NBC in the mail.Other names that have already been invited are Ted Forrest , Paul Wasicka , Phil Ivey, Jennifer Harman, Gavin Smith, Barry Greenstein, Mike Matusow, Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Erick Lindgren and Antonio Esfandiari. Noted online players, Jonathan "Fiery Justice" Little and Brian "sbrugby" Townsend also made t ...

News Years Treasure Hunt at 5th Street !
2007-12-26 08:58:46
OK folk , over at 5th Street we are going to hold a little treasure hunt come New Years day . The hunt is open to all members regardless of how long they have been there . So if you would like to join , just get over to the 5th Street Forum and become a member before it's too late .What I'm going to do is give the winner of the hunt $20.00 into a Nordica Poker account . There will be the phrase "Golden Treasure" placed in an old post ( by way of editing so it will not show up as new) somewhere in the forum . The winner will be the first one to find the phrase and copy&paste the whole post and place the link to it as well in the thread that has announced the hunt . I will not be placing the phrase till I get up on News Year day .This is a nice little shot to make a decent beginners bankroll at a site that is well worth playing . So if you don't have the room yet , just click Nordica Poker to download . I remember when I found Merge Gaming I had got my start with just a ...

Merry Christmas from the House of Poker
2007-12-25 07:18:30
Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all out there today . Here at the House of Poker and from the 5th Street Forum , we wish you all a very merry day and hope that your new year will be a successful one both on and off the felt .I don't really have much more to say other than I did play the league game at Nordica on Saturday and had a bit of a suck out on me to have one of my worst finish to date in the series . I had the BB and was holding 5-2 os when a player only made the call . I thought at that moment that the 5-2 was gonna get me in trouble and trouble it was . The flop come k-5-2 rainbow and I decided to try a check raise . The caller bet about half their stack and I pushed allin , and they make the call . Caller shows k-q and I'm all smiles until the river came a queen....Was still a good game though .I'm also working on becoming an affiliate with a new site that I think everyone will like . The site is just a poker room with no casino games , so that means that epas ...

World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic Continues to Grow
2007-12-23 08:09:49
We all know the World Series of Poker and the annual World Poker Tour Championship as the two most anticipated and celebrated events in the game of poker . But what about the third richest ? Yep , it's the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic, which wrapped up this past Tuesday night at the Bellagio in Las Vegas .This year the event was won by Eugene Katchalov of New York and attracted a field of 664 players . The prize pool was a whooping $9.6 million and first-place got better than $2.48 million ! Last year's tournament drew 583 players , a field of 555 in 2005 and 376 in 2004 . As you can see the field is growing each year and is doing so without any internet involvement according to Doug Dalton, director of poker operations at the Bellagio . The Las Vegas Sun reports that of the 555 players who competed in 2005, about 40 percent were Internet qualifiers, according to an estimate by Jack McClelland, the Bellagio's tournament director. Of this year's field, at leas ...

European Union cuts a Deal on UIGEA !
2007-12-21 10:40:20
Looks like the countries that I would have thought would not buckle under to the U.S.A. on the UIGEA law has done so after all . The European Union's $100 Billion compensatory claim against the U.S.A. over the online gambling ban was a great source of hope for many of us online gamers , but that hope has now gone down the drain........The World Trade Organization is supposedly the most powerful legislative and judicial body in the world and has repeatedly made it clear that the U.S.'s ban on online gambling violates free trade agreements . It appears though that U.S. politicians and diplomats made quick work of that by signing new agreements with the EU, Canada and Japan to keep those three out of the way, leaving the dispute between only the U.S.A. and Antigua . Antigua is the recognized center for online gambling companies , and was one of the first nations to legalizeand license online gaming. This week the EU reached an agreement with the American government that will allow ...

Weekend News at the House of Poker - 12/17
2007-12-17 07:27:29
Not a whole lot of news from the weekend at The House of Poker . We had our little game over at 5th Street and I must admit it was a nice little change of pace . Sad to say that only three of us played , but the A-5 Lowball was quite the fun game to play . I personally feel this is more a thinking mans/ladies game than holdem due to the three draws you have . The game will keep you on ya toes for sure . After about an hour of play between the three of us it was over , and my good online buddy the ShushiKid managed to win when I pushed all-in with a 9 high after a second draw only to be called and be staring at an 8 high . oops .I did get a little bored last night and felt like a little poker , but weren't in the mood for no big game . So I decided that I'd give Pitbull Poker a shot with the free $10.00 they give out for signing up . I figured that I'd just jump on a .05/.10 table and waste an half hour or so.....After folding every hand for about 10 minutes to get ...

Playing A-5 Lowball at 5th Street
2007-12-14 06:42:42
Tomorrows game over at 5th Street is going to be Pot Limit A-5 Lowball . I'm not a fan of this game by no means , but we mixed the games up this season as a learning experience for other poker games .A-5 Lowball works the same as 5 Card Draw but with players trying to make the best possible low hand, and there are three draws instead of one. Straights and flushes don't count so the best possible hand is A-2-3-4-5 regardless of suit. Before the cards are dealt the two players to the left of the dealer button (a small D in a circle identifies the current dealer position) must make forced bets, called blinds. The first person left of the dealer pays the small blind, the next person pays the big blind, which is double the small blind. (These are the table limits) The minimum bet in a hand is the amount of the big blind. Once all the players have their cards there is the first of 4 betting rounds and players have the 3 options: fold their hand, call the big blind (bet equal to ...
