2007-06-18 06:49:00
My friend over at ManilaMom tagged me for this meme called ?In The Spotlight,? which was created by Christy of Christy?s Coffee Break. The meme contains 12 questions - and a blogger may answer all of them, or just pick the ones they like. For the complete rules and list of questions, please visit Christy?s site. These are the questions and my answers. I answered the questions one at a time, not knowing what the next question will be. And in the words of ManilaMom, let?s turn on the spotlight! Here goes? What Makes Your Blogging Unique?A blogger once made a comment about my site, which I have to admit is one that I cherish up to now. "The beauty and organization of your site captured my attention, but the way you expressed your words, defining your personality, captured all my senses, especially my heart."When did you start blogging?I came to know the world of blogging on November 20, 2006. However, I only had three posts in 2006, and 1 post in January 2007! Honestly, I don't know what ...

Just saw this interesting read from ABS-CBN Interactive: "The Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines may have found a new patron in businessman and sports lover Manny V. Pangilinan.According to Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez, the man they call MVP is keen in supporting the RP boxers? bid in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.Ramirez said First Gentleman Mike Arroyo wants the boxing association headed by Manny Lopez to prepare a blueprint of its program for the next year?s Olympics.?The First Gentleman wants to know the extent of the program. He wants to know how much it would need to keep it going,? Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank: The Manny Pacquaio Peace Talks
2007-06-17 17:55:00
From BoxingConfidential.com"The Manny Pacquaio Peace Talks, which began Saturday morning in Los Angeles, California, with representatives of Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank sitting across the table from each other in a court-ordered mediation, seem to be making significant progress. So much so that TR and GBP agreed to resume their discussions on Monday morning. Those close to the situation are saying that there has been some talk of the two giant promotional companies "sharing" rights to Pacman bouts.GBP and Top Rank started talking with a mediator "refereeing" about 9:30 am PDT. took a lunch break, and then held an afternoon session with concluded just before 6 pm PDT.I spoke briefly with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum as the parties wrapped up their fist day of trying to hash out a settlement which will prevent their fight over the promotional rights to Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquaio going to a full-blown trial in federal court in LA."I can't talk right now," Arum said, "but we are don ...

Energy and the Environment: Myths and Facts
2007-06-16 05:49:00
I just saw this read, "Energy and the Environment: Myths and Facts," by Max Schulz. Surveys results are always interesting. Here is a copy of the Press Release - could be worth your time. Enjoy!NEW REPORT: Energy and the Environment: Myths and Facts Washington, DC: The Center for Energy Policy and the Environment at the Manhattan Institute released a new report by senior fellow Max Schulz. ?Energy and the Environment: Myths and Facts? reveals that Americans' beliefs about energy and our environment are largely unfounded. Sound policy decisions require a well-informed citizenry. But, as Earth Day approaches, we must ask: how well-informed are we regarding our energy needs and natural environment? The Manhattan Institute, along with Zogby International, polled 1,000 Americans about basic facts relating to energy policy. The poll results reveal that many widely held beliefs are, in key ways, inaccurate. In this new report, Max Schulz examines the public perception of energy and the envir ...

High feedstock prices equates to a slowdown in the biodiesel rush!
2007-06-16 03:42:00
An interesting read from ICIS Chemical Business caught my attention. Not only did the article highlighted problems associated with the "thoughtless rush" to biodiesel production, it confirmed the AnitoKid's views on the food vs. fuel debate. Apparently, increases in feedstock price have forced Malaysia to either scale back biodiesel production activities or close until the economics for plants improve. Only five biodiesel plants are currently operating in the country because crude palm oil prices, the nation's main feedstock, have risen to an 8-year high. And when prices soar, the profitability of producers is significantly reduced.Several other plants also face the ax unless they start up operations within the next two years. Many of the producers (more than 90) that have been issued licenses have decided to delay commercial operation or close the plants until raw material prices fall. Indeed, the adage "Haste makes waste" holds true on this one! What about the biodiesel plants ( ...

The AnitoKid is proud to be in the company of DOST-SEI scholars!
2007-06-14 01:18:00
My friends, you know how much I love icons, buttons, patches, and widgets. Guess what, I have just received approval to host the DOST-SEI icon in my site - even though I am not a DOST-SEI alumni or a scholar during college!I browsed the DOST-SEI site, logged on and registered. A specific question that came to light before I was approved for the site registration concerns the meaning of SEI and explaining it in Filipino. I answered it in a different fashion - With all Heart. And from the bottom of the A-Kid's heart, my sincerest thanks to all DOST-SEI scholars, particularly my friends over at Jezhlau Concepts and Itanong Mo Kay Jemme, who took the initiative to make this possible. Much thanks kabayans! Much thanks! And I kid you not when I saythat I am proud to be amongst you!Mabuhay ang DOST-SEI bloggers! Mabuhay ang Filipino Bloggers! ...

Dynasty on their minds. Not dynamism. Political dynasty - Da Daily Donkey
2007-06-13 06:48:00
Da Daily Donkey award goes to the political dynastiesin the Philippines.Just saw a post on political dynasties, which got me thinking about some of the country's top political clans. Some of the firsts that came to my mind include:The MacapagalsThe MarcosesThe Ejercitos/EstradasThe CojuangcosThe OsmenasThe CayetanosEver since I can remember, political dynasties have plague the Philippine political landscape like a dreaded disease. And they are still very much around! It is a possibility that in the next Senate, the Filipinos will have a father and son tandem in the persons of Nene and Koko Pimentel. It kind of reminds you of the song-and-dance number by mother and son Loi and Jinggoy Estrada, who sat side by side during deliberations on important legislations that will influence the fate of millions of our kababayans (countrymen). What is ironic is the fact that Nene Pimental authored "The Anti-Dynasty Bill," which is currently pending in the Philippine Senate. Tsk.From PCIJ.org:"T ...

A case of racism: Belgian rejects job seeker due to "racist dog"
2007-06-13 06:26:00
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A Belgian businessman rejected a Nigerian job applicant because the businessman said his own dog was racist and would bite non-whites, Belgian media reported on Saturday. The 53-year-old man Nigerian told De Standaard newspaper he arrived at the Belgian's wrought-iron business and was immediately confronted by the barking dog. The Belgian turned the man away before he could even enter, and wrote on his labour office letter that he could not hire the man because of his colour, adding there was a risk the dog would bite him. The local labour office has concluded that the Belgian was racist and has removed him from its list of potential employers. "My dog is racist. Not me," the Belgian told De Standaard. The Nigerian, who has lived in Belgium for 32 years, said it was not the first time he had been rejected for a job because of his colour, although other employers had been more subtle. He told the newspaper that he did not wish to ...

It's such a grand thing to be a mother of a mother - that's why the world calls her grandmother
2007-06-13 04:46:00
"Me and my Mexican Grandma"a not-so-personal encounterwith a larger-than-life grandmotherLawyers should never ask a Mexican grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer: In a trial in a small town in Texas, a prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a Mexican grandmother, an elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, "Mrs. Sanchez, do you know me?" She responded, "Si, I mean, yes, I know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a chavalito, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you will never amount to nothin' but a two bit paper pusher. Yes I know you." The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, "Mrs. Sanchez, do you know the defense attorney?" She replied, "Why yes I do. I've known Mr. Rodriguez since he was a ch ...
