A bright idea puts Australia in a new light

Per capita, Australians are among the world's biggest producers of greenhouse gas (GHG). In light of this, Australia will phase out incandescent light bulbs within 3 years to curb such emissions, making it the first country in the world to do so. By 2009, incandescent bulbs, which lose much of their energy as heat, will be replaced by more efficient compact fluorescent bulbs. Hopefully, the ban will ultimately help cut 800,000 tons (by 2012) from the country's current GHG emission and lower household lighting costs by a whopping 66%. Wow! Definitely, a bright idea Australia!And in California, a bill has been introduced by State Assembly Member Lloyd Levine that would ban the sale of conventional light bulbs by 2012.The future looks bright! Bontoc, Mountain Province breaks election tie with coin toss!

Two candidates vying for a seat on the council in Bontoc town, Mountain Province, broke a rare tie in the May 2007 elections by coin toss! Local elections officials discovered that Benjamin Ngeteg and Bryan Byrd Bellang had tied for the last of eight seats on the council. They were then asked by elections supervisor Mary Umaming if they wanted to break the tie by tossing a coin or drawing lots; apparently, such options are in the rules! And the two candidates agreed to flip a coin in the local town hall. Bellang, who chose heads, won the coin toss. The candidates then shook each other's hands, sealing the agreement, as the crowd erupted with a thunderous applause for their peaceful resolution of the tie.My hat's off to you, gentlemen. Fr. Ed Panlilio, a Catholic priest, was proclaimed as the 23rd governor of Pampanga. Fr. Ed, who had no running mate, won with 219,706 votes over his closest rival, Lilia Pineda, who got 218,559 votes. In third place was Gov. Mark Lapid, who had 210,875 votes. Fr. Ed had no running mate and lacked the personal resources to launch a gubernatorial campaign. Nobody outside Pampanga ever heard of him. The mass media, e.g., TV and radio, did not cover him nor his campaign. To people outside the province of Pampanga, only two personalities were battling it out for the position.Fr. Ed was parish priest of Betis in Guagua, when he decided to go on leave and run for governor with a crusade for transparent and good governance based on Christian values. Found this at ArgusLeader.com and Keloland: Former state lawmaker Ted Klaudt is facing criminal charges including eight counts of rape and additional charges of stalking and sexual contact with a child. One of the victims was a former legislative page who was reportedly assaulted while staying with Klaudt in his Pierre hotel room during the 2006 legislative session. Klaudt, 49, of Walker, was arrested this morning. The charges, which involve two girls, were filed this morning in two South Dakota counties. He's accused of performing "ovary checks" and "breast exams" on one of the girls under the guise that he was helping her to donate her eggs, according to court records. When the girl began to cry, he would give her beer or alcohol, the documents state.
