The AnitoKid at the SM Hypermarket: An Unforgettable Shopping Experience!
2007-08-19 05:37:00
My mom used to be connected, (actually, she's one of the pioneers), with the William Golangco Construction Co., which builds the SM Shoemart chain of stores. I believe I was in the fourth grade when SM City West was being constructed. I spent that summer at the construction site, accompanying my mom and my "tito's" and "tita's" (godparents). At first, I thought it was going to be a row of townhouses because at that time, such were the "in" thing in the real estate industry. Yeah, silly little kid - didn't read the signs all around the place. And why? I guess I was always in awe watching our kababayans work. The construction site was like a well-oiled machine. Everyone knew their job. Everybody knew their role - each handling a different aspect of the construction. And before the end of my summer vacation, one of my Tito's gave me a construction hat! Twas a white one! I proudly displayed it in my room and continue to do so in one of my vehicles.Enough of the hat thing! :) That sum ...
Filipino: Bonding a Nation and Its People
2007-08-18 01:23:00
Filipino: Bonding a Nation and Its PeopleFilipino, the Philippines’ national and official language, stands as a true testament to the nation’s rich and colorful history. If one carefully dissects the language, it embodies a passionate love for freedom and a proud people’s outlook on the serenity of life. The language is serious and elegant, yet sensitive at the same time. It promotes a sense of spirit and independent thinking. Its alphabet, which is made up of 28 letters, serves as the bridge to the numerous dialects shaping the more than 7,100 islands that make up the Pearl of the Orient Seas. The Filipino language embodies the scores of dialects in the country, from that of the Ilokanos in the far north, to those of the Muslims in the south. Some scholars believe that a country with such a vast number of dialects will have a difficult time finding itself politically, economically, and socially. Indeed, the thought has its own merits. However, it failed to account for one va ...

2007-08-18 01:23:00
Manny Pacquiao aka Pacman has been in the news lately. And why not? Manny will headline one of the year's exciting matches when he goes up against none other than Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 6, 2007. A lot of interesting views and thoughts have surfaced in light of Manny Paquiao's upcoming fight. These include: - Trainer Freddie Roach said he expects Manny Pacquiao to log in a total of 130 to 150 rounds of sparring against Mexican fighters for his Oct. 6 rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas.- Roach has decided to declare the gym off-limits to fans from Monday to Friday to give Pacquiao more time to concentrate. The crowd that showed up at the gym last Thursday was just unbelievable.- “Hindi namin mapigil ang tao (We can’t control the crowd). Iba talaga si Manny (Manny is truly different),” said Salud, the owner of the gym, and a close friend of Pacquiao’s.- "Pacquiao has the style that complicates things for Barrera. He is fast, elusive ...

Da Daily Donkey Goes to Malu Fernandez!
2007-08-14 02:38:00
Da Daily DonkeyMalu Fernandez(click pics to enlarge)People Asia (June 2007)I'll just keep this short. And sweet. A self-described jet-setter, Malu Fernandez, of People Asia wrote:"The hub was in Dubai and the majority of OFWs (Overseas Filipino workers) were stationed there. The duty-free shop was overrun with Filipino workers selling cell phones and perfume. Meanwhile, I wanted to slash my wrist at the thought of being trapped in a plane with all of them. Of course, everyone in economy class was yelled at for having overweight hand-carries. Mine was 17 kg (ssshhhh!). That was all makeup and accessories I would never risk losing if my luggage ended up in the middle of the Sahara Desert.""While I was on the plane (where the seats were so small i had bruises on my legs), my only consolation was the entertainment on the small flat screen in front of me. But it was busted, so I heaved a sigh, popped my sleeping pills and dozed off to the sounds of gum chewing and endless yellowing of "HOY ...

Isagni-X Submits An Entry to The AnitoKid Anniversary Review!
2007-08-13 03:20:00
Here's another entry to The AnitoKid Anniversary Review from my online kababayan, Isagani-X. Out of boredom, Isagani-X reviewed the site and offered a number of suggestions. These suggestions pertained to improving a number of site components, e.g., header, blogrolls, sidebar, footer, and content. In the end, after all was said and done, Isagani-X gave the blog a grade of C, passing with potentials. Improvements needed. Some of my friends say that it was unfortunate that my kababayan reviewed my blog when it was, shall we say, "under renovation," and that he could have given me a higher grade and all if it was not the case. However, I sincerely feel that it was a blessing in disguise that Isagani reviewed my blog at that time because some of his suggestions were interesting and worth the read. By the way, I followed some of his tips! ^_^ And I kid you not!Do check out my kababayan's site, Isagani-X!Like some of my online friends, this guy hits hard, but strikes fair."Who wouldn't fig ...
