I keep going on about how good the Xbox 360 chat (voice mainly) is and now at last they got some hardware to back up that good software. This Friday sees the launch of the “Xbox 360 Chatpad� which is designed for people that keen to send text messages. The Qwerty keypad will make it much faster for Xbox 360 users to send text based messages and it is expected to sell for £24.99 (which is not bad). How good it works will have to wait to we get a hands-on review later this week (which we will feature our own detailed review of the device). Last night I just brought a Bluetooth headset for my Sony PS3 (one of those that you use for cell phones), my brother got one as well so we could talk while playing games. As I have owned an Xbox 360 since they came out, I am use to the 360’s chat set up and I must say I am very disappointed in the way the Playstation 3 lets you voice chat. With the Xbox 360 you can do private chats and then move around the dashboard and into games still chatting, but on the Sony PS3 if you go to leave a chat setup it will then break the voice chat (that’s rubbish). The same in games, you cannot enter into a private chat with a friend while playing a game. When it comes to the looks, feel and hardware I prefer the Sony PS3 but for the software side (like voice chat) the Xbox 360 wins hands-down. I am lucky enough to own the Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 so I can give you a hands-on opinion of all 3 games consoles. With all the recent problems I had with the Xbox 360 and its overheating, I am still glad that I kept me 360 after buying the Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. Although for the past few days my gaming hours have been taken up by the Sony PS3 and Warhawk, I will be going back to the Xbox 360 for Halo 3…and am I looking forward to it. Halo 3 is a game I have been waiting all year for and in a few weeks it will be here with us, September 25th Northern America and the 26th for Europe. I have owned the Xbox 360 since they first came out (a long time ago) and although I have never played it more than a couple of hours as I work a lot from home, many of my family members Xbox 360’s are dropping down like flies with the 3 red lights. First lets make it clear that I do love the 360 and my games collection is over 40 games, but with the thought of it dieing one day when I decide to play it a lot more I decided to give Microsoft a phone call (remember facts are I am seeing problems with my friends and family 360’s). After 40 mins on the phone where did I get? In short they will only repair the 360 if I get the 3 red lights (even after telling them it sounds like a tank and gets so hot I cannot let my 4 year old son touch it), but guess what. Gabe Newell, from Valve Software the developer for the popular game Half-Life has said that the popular games console Nintendo Wii will factor hugely for their future developments, Newell states that the Wii is more valuable than the Sony PS3 and also the Microsoft Xbox 360. Although Valve Software has nothing in development at the moment for the Nintendo Wii Gabe has said that the games console “represents big opportunities as a whole”, he then went on to say that them not having any games on the Wii is “an obvious hole in our strategy.” Gabe Newell said that when you develop a game for the Xbox 360, PS3 or even a PC you design a game around the graphics, but with the Wii you have to think about the game more fundamentally. It has now been confirmed by Maxis that there are plans to develop a version of Spore for consoles like the Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii, although they also said that they will not release them alongside the PC and DS versions. The news was broke during a behind closed doors demo of the game at this week’s Leipzig GC. Someone asked Maxis exec Patrick Buechener whether Spore will hit consoles and he said “Not right now, but we see this as a franchise.” And also followed with “It just won’t be at launch.” The Nintendo Wii could do good things with this game, it would not need amazing graphics and the Wii’s control system would be fun while you evolve a single celled organism into a complex creature and eventually an entire civilisation. It looks like Microsoft will be asking for a price of around GBP 280 (EUR 414) for the Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 according to Euro Gamer. The Microsoft Halo 3 theme Xbox 360 will have to be for die-hard gamers as I cannot see many people wanting a green frog colored 360. The release date for this green looking games console is 26th September at the same time of the Halo 3 launch. Features on the Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 include one month of Live Gold membership, Play & Charge Kit, Ethernet cable, component HD AV cable, special Halo 3 theme and gamer pictures, wired headset, a wireless controller, 20GB hard drive, a HDMI port and the fancy Spartan-green and gold paint job. Although we have known for a while now that the Nintendo Wii would eventually sell more game consoles than the Xbox 360, Microsoft must be kicking themselves right now as they did have a huge head start. Although the final numbers are not official yet, early sales figures show that the Nintendo Wii is in first place with the amount of game consoles sold worldwide the figure is 10.57 million, compared to the Microsoft Xbox 360 with 10.51 million units sold. Way down in third is the Sony PS3 with 4.32 million next generation games consoles sold. Sony should not feel too bad about these speculated sales figures as they have not been on the market as long as the Wii and Xbox 360. It seems that the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver has now become a widespread issue; more and more users are having error issues with this Wireless Receiver attachment. The problem does look as though it is getting worse, as more people on many forums and review sites are all complaining about this now useless piece of equipment. The problem is that people are using their Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver only to find that it is sucking the life out of every other USB peripheral, so when you plug your Microsoft gadget all other items that have been plugged into the USB port stops working. Also another issue is the fact that when you try and speak to Microsoft’s tech support, they do not do much in the way of solving this issue. BioShock, the new video game for the XBOX 360 and the PC, was released yesterday and it looks awesome. This game has been in the works for sometime and rightfully so as it appears it could be one of those games to really push a console ahead in the VG wars. I’m looking forward to giving this one a try very soon. BioShock Plot The game opens in 1960. The player assumes the role of Jack, a passenger on an aircraft that crashes into the ocean near Rapture. Jack swims for the only structure he sees, a lighthouse that serves as the above-surface entry point into Rapture. Descending into the city using a bathysphere, he learns of the original prosperous history of Rapture through a pre-recorded film, but sees the state of decay of both the city and society for himself. He is quickly led to safety by a man named Atlas, who communicates to Jack over a short-wave radio; Atlas believes that Jack is his only hope in reuniting with his wife and child. The first list of features that the Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update could include is Xvid codec support, more is planned but this is the one that has gotten the most attention. There are also some other great possibilities such as, integrated clan functionality, IPTV support, XBLA blade, improved slideshow effects, a PIP setting and integrated clan functionality. It is not known how much truth there is in this rumor, but is the there was to be an Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update with an included Xvid codec then this could be a very compelling prospect. Además, Microsoft ha aprovechado la ocasión para anunciar oficialmente, de nuevo, que la Xbox 360 Elite saldrá a la venta el próximo 24 de agosto a un precio de 449.99€. De este modo, la situación queda en que la Xbox 360 Pro pasa a costar 349.99€ -50€ menos de lo que costaba antes-, y la Xbox 360 Core pasa a costar 279.99€ -20€ menos-. I brought an Xbox 360 as soon as they came out a long time ago and although it’s a known fact that they have overheating problems mine has never broke down, but it does get hot and is very noisy. As I have a nice big collection of Xbox 360 games I will not change console now, but I did buy a Nintendo Wii to see what all the fuss was about…I know why now. While the Nintendo Wii is not my main games system for games that I play on my own, it does take over the gaming when we have people over. The Nintendo Wii is amazing for groups of people and I have never known another gaming system so good at getting everyone involved at all ages, although the graphics are a bit rubbish it is the games console of choice when I have people over.
