This is good news for Texas children and defenders of science education. Teaching crap and calling it science does not change the fact that it is still crap. Officials at Lake Tawakoni State Park say the massive mosquito trap is a big attraction for some visitors, while others won't go anywhere near it. "At first, it was so white it looked like fairyland," said Donna Garde, superintendent of the park about 45 miles east of Dallas. "Now it's filled with so many mosquitoes that it's turned a little brown. There are times you can literally hear the screech of millions of mosquitoes caught in those webs." Rick Perry, longtime head of the nation's busiest death penalty state, spared an inmate Thursday hours before he was to have been executed for being a killer's getaway driver. Perry issued the commutation order on a parole board's rare recommendation about seven hours before Kenneth Foster was to have been put to death — the narrowest gap by which he has halted an execution in his more than eight years in office. Thursday's vote marked only the second time since Texas resumed carrying out executions in 1982 that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles endorsed stopping an execution with so little time remaining. And in that 2004 case, Perry rejected the board's recommendation and the prisoner, who had been diagnosed as mentally ill, was executed. I am continually getting e-mails from gun owners telling me that there are more deaths here in America by vehicles than by gun violence (in my opinion both are way too high), hence there are many ways that we can reduce deaths in these two areas and red light cameras are an excellent idea whose time has come!!!!! I got my registration renewal notice from the state of Texas in the mail a couple of weeks ago and saw that Texas has an online renewal option.  Somewhat sceptically, I did the online renewal.  I had an email within 24 hours telling me to look for my renewal to show up in the mail in 7-10 days.  So what showed up just days later/  Right, my registration.  I am impressed and would encourage anyone in Texas to use the online site.  It is fast and it saves a trip in the car.

Central Texas has seen more than its share of rain this year.  Many places have already received double their annual amount of rain and that was before Tropical Storm Erin decided to hit Texas.  San Antonio appears to have been absolutely swamped today.Now that Erin has dumped more rain than we can absorb we have another 5-7 days before we can expect Dean if it continues its projected path. 

It is expected that Tropical Storm Erin will not form into a hurricane as is passes over Texas, which is why only some vacationers packed up, while others decided to sit out the torrential rainfall that Tropical Storm Erin brings is bringing. Some people have been saying “It’s not a hurricane. I ain’t worried. If they say don’t evacuate, I’m not going to worry about it.” Gov. Rick Perry has ordered the National Guard to head towards Harlingen and Corpus Christi areas. Perry said that he called in the National Guard as the areas that the storm is going to bombarded areas that have been hit before. But Rick said that there was no need for an evacuation as it will only be heavy rainfall that they have to put up with. There are still three and a half months left in the hurricane season, and the past few Tropical Storm Erin, Tropical Storm Dean, and Hurricane Flossie have all been a wake-up call. Tropical storm Erin has now formed over the Gulf of Mexico, and it is expected that the storm could hits the South Texas Coast by tomorrow, not only that but yet another storm is gaining strength in the Atlantic Ocean and seems as if it is heading straight towards the Caribbean. It seems as if we are being bombarded by hurricanes at the moment, but then again some of the most dangerous storms seem to form after August 15th. Erin reached the strength of a tropical storm sometime about mid-morning; it was created about 402 kilometers east of Brownsville, Texas. The storm is only moving at about 19 kilometers an hour, the system also has sustained wind speeds of 64.37 per hour. Tropical Storm Erin will hit land sometime tomorrow just south of Corpus Christi, Texas, where it is expected to drop at least 8-inches of rain. The LCRA is thinking about raising the price it charges for water in some rural areas of Central Texas.  They claim that the topography of the Hill Country is such that their cost to run water lines is very expensive.  because of this, the LCRA wants to raise the cost it charges users of its water as much as 41%.  The area in which the rise is expected covers much of north-central Hays County and part of Travis County including Bee Cave and areas to the west and south of Bee Cave.What the LCRA is saying is that there are fewer homes per mile of water pipe in these areas than in more developed areas.  This means that there are fewer people to spread the cost of the new infrastructure over.  Over time, many people in the Hill Country have been practically begging for LCRA water.  This has been true for many developers who couldn't have otherwise built in areas such as Belvedere and other new subdivisions.  Rather than split the cost of taking water
