President Sarkozy Heads East To Confront Russia
France’s President, Nicolas Sarkozy, is headed for his first trip to Russia, but along the way he intends talking with nations that have rocky relations with their Russian neighbor. He will meet with Ukranian president Viktor Yuschchenko who led the Orange Revolution against Moscow’s man in the Ukraine, and the French president will also meet with Poland’s president Lech Kaczyinski who has continually expressed his concerns about Russia. Sarkozy will meet with Czech leaders who are supporting American efforts to place missiles in their nation, an action, which has resulted in negative reactions from Putin. Sarkozy has a tendency to regard himself as more knowledgeable than other leaders in dealing with international issues and concerns. He apparently enjoys throwing his weight around to prove France is still a powerful nation in the world. He will be meeting with President Putin who is a mirror image of the French president in believing in his personal power to domin
Musharraf Elected President –Maybe!
President Musharraf of Pakistan was elected one again to the office of president by obtaining 252 of 257 votes cast in parliament. About 200 members of parliament belonging to opposition parties refused to cast ballots in protest against him. They argue Musharraf can not stand for president while still retaining the position of chief of the armed forces since that violates the Pakistan constitution. The Pakistan Supreme Court has held in abeyance his election until they review constitutional issues. Musharraf has already indicated one of his close friends will take over as head of the armed forces while he again serves as president. He also has made a bargain with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto to share power and most probably will have the law changed so she can serve for a third term as prime minister. The unknown question is whether these manipulations serve the interests of the people of Pakistan.
President Musharraf Makes Deal With Benazir Bhutto
President Musharraf long reported deal with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was finally announced. He issued a “reconciliation ordinance” which dropped corruption charges against anyone whose case was in a court before 1999. It states that all corruption cases registered prior to 1999 “stand withdrawn and terminated with immediate effect.” It is apparent Musharraf and Bhutto have come to some form of agreement about sharing power. It is expected Musharraf will shortly declare some law which allows Bhutto to become prime minister for a third term even though Pakistan’s constitution says only two terms are allowed. The only fly in the ointment is a decision by Musharraf[s opponent — the Pakistan Supreme Court — which ruled it will hold in abeyance authorizing an election result until legal issues regarding Musharraf’s candidacy are resolved. The tragedy is having two politicians manipulate conditions in order to benefit one another in
Senator McCain Attacks President Bush For Failing At Leadership
Senator John McCain of Arizona unleashed a blasting critique of President Bush’s failure at leadership in the aftermath of 9/11. The senator said: “I believe that the big mistake that our leadership of our nation made after 9/11 is we told people to go shopping and we told them to take a trip.” McCain said [...]
Czech President Opposes Global Warming Hysteria
Speaking before the ultra conservative Council for National Policy,(CNP) President Vaclav Klalus of the Czech Republic tore into ideas that such a thing as global warming was actually happening in the world. He condemned the “irrationality” of considering climate change a threat to the future of humankind, and urged that financial assistance be provided to [...]
President Mugabe Continues Dismantling of Zimbabwe
President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe continues his disastrous policies of wrecking what was once among the most highly developed economies in Africa. He has announced his government will seize control of foreign mining and business interests by assuming a 51% control of those assets. If foreigners don’t like the arrangement, he told them to “ship [...]
John McCain: I Want A Christian President, I Think, Maybe?
Controversy continues over Senator John McCain’s comment last week that since America was founded on “Christian principles…I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith.” The American Jewish Congress blasted the senator by commenting, “to argue that America is a Christian nation, or that persons of a particular faith not seek high offices, puts the very character of our nation at stake.” Of course, McCain’s defenders like Senator Joe Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew, claimed McCain does not have a “bigoted bone in his body.” Although, McCain has not completely rejected what he previously stated, he now thinks qualified people should run for the presidency. Joe Lieberman is probably right that McCain doesn’t have a bigoted bone in his body, but it’s his mind, not his body that is speaking. John McCain wants to be president and he will say or do anything in order to attain that goal. He has spent the past tw
Syrian President Bashar Assad Won’t Retaliate
Bashar Assad, president of Syria claimed the recent Israeli air attack on his nation only resulted in damage to a deserted building. He argued Syria had he right to retaliate, but would not take advantage of that right because his nation seeks peace with Israel. Assad also noted Syria might attend the upcoming American sponsored Middle Eastern conference if there was a real possibility of dealing with substantive issues like the Golan Heights. President Assad runs a right dictatorship in Syria, but he also may well have pragmatic needs for his nation. Return of the Golan Heights is a symbolic issue for his people and his willingness to discuss peace with Israel if he can secure its return is a healthy indication peace is possible. It is ironic that Assad, the dictator, is discussing issues of peace while a democratic Israel is discussing needs for war.
McCain Says U.S. Needs Christian President
One would hope that a contender for the American presidency would at least be familiar with the Constitution. In the case of Republican hopeful, John McCain, this appears not to be the case. McCain was recently quoted saying that America needs a Christian president and that he opposes allowing a Muslim president. This sounds an awful lot like he's proposing a religious test for the nation's highest office, precisely what our Constitution forbids. Then again, McCain also claims that the “Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation.”McCain is clearly desperate to remain relevant as the primaries approach. His campaign has been a disaster, and he is probably having a difficult time realizing that he hasn't been part of the first tier for some time. Now it seems that he's made a strategic decision to engage in the worst kind of pandering to boost his dismal numbers. But I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on C

Musharraf Submits Papers To Run For President
President Musharraf submitted necessary papers in order to run again for the nation’s highest office although there is strong opposition to this goal. Roads leading into the capital city of Islamabad were blocked, most probably to prevent a demonstration by Pakistani lawyers against Musharraf’s effort to run for president. Supreme Court Justice Iftikhar Chaudhey summoned police in an effort to know why the roads were blocked and why lawyers were not being able to demonstrate. He also ordered the release of over 200 political opponents of Musharraf. Benazir Bhutto, former prime minister, remained silent on the Musharraf move, most probably because she has come to an agreement with him that once he is elected he will allow how to circumvent the law which prevents anyone from being prime minister for more than two terms. The good news out of Pakistan is that the nation has a healthy and determined judiciary system which is upholding the law. The bad news is Musharraf refuses t

President Bush, Whose Ass Are We Kicking and How Do We Know?
This is a 1 minute speech Congressmen John Yarmuth (D-KY03) gave on the House floor yesterday. He asks Bush a couple of questions that Bush has never been able to answer. With brave American soldiers dying in record numbers, I have two questions for the President — just whose posteriors are we kicking and how do you know? With Sunnis and Shiites killing themselves and each other, plus an incompetence Maliki government, we don’t know who we’re fighting, much less where we’re kicking them. And while we’re tied up in Iraq, Al Qaeda thrives in Pakistan and Afghanistan. So the President’s turn of phrase will go to the blooper hall of fame with other Bush Golden Oldies like last throes, links to Al Qaeda and Mission Accomplished. There was a time when America’s success meant defeating Nazis, tearing down communism’s Iron Curtain and walking on the moon. Supportng our troops meant honest safeguards, not trash talk. How low have our standards fallen when the President points

President Ahmadinejad's Speech Was a Comedy Routine
As President Ahmadinejad was speaking, I kept picturing him dressed in a top hat and tails while the song, "Putting on the Ritz" was being played. Remember that scene from "Young Frankenstein?" He said, "The Nazi slaughter of six million Jews should not be treated as fact, but theory, and therefore open to debate and more research." I said, "There's nothing wrong with debate and more research, but your only reason for stating this is to incite people - not because you are appalled nor sympathetic one bit. Remember your assertation that Israel should be wiped off the map?" He said, "Making nuclear, chemical and biological bombs and weapons of mass destruction is yet another result of the misuse of science and research by the big powers." I said, "Oh really? well then I guess your scientists wouldn't misuse the weaponry YOU already have in order to bomb Israel." He said, "Freedoms in Iran are genuine, true freedoms. Iranian people are free. Women in Iran enjoy the highest level
Czech Republic President Attacks Gore On Environment
President Vaclav Klaus of the Czech Republic, is a vocal opponent of those arguing about global warming. It appears Klaus is linked with the American Heartland Institute, a right wing group opposing global warming as a liberal ploy to frighten people into restricting business enterprises. President Klaus told the Czech News Agency(CTK) that he was going to attend a UN conference on global warming. “It will be a gathering of Gore-ites, so they’re going to be shocked that they invited me by mistake, and I’m going to give a very tough speech. Klaus also attacked his own prime minister and Environment Minister, Martin Dussek for supporting global warming activities which the president considers to be an infringement on individual rights. The Heartland Institute is running newspaper ads featuring the Czech leader in an apparent effort to persuade people that he speaks for his nation. It is apparent he only speaks for himself and whatever support he obtains from the Heartla
