Here I give you the first in the Christmas Review series, where I dish out reviews for the games I got this Christmas. I thought I'd start with the PS3, seeing as I've spent more time on it than any one game. When I first opened it, the first thing I thought was "Man, is this shiny", and it really is. The hardware is beatifully done, very sleek, shiny, although very large too. The user interface has the same sleek feeling. Smooth transitions between menu items, and overall I like the interface. Using the Bluetooth SIXAXIS controller was very easy and well done. Just plug it in, press the PS button in the middle and you're ready to go. Setting up the console was very easy, entering name, date & time, adress etc., very well done. Signing up for the Playstation Network was the same way, quick, to the point, and easy. I like the Playstation Store, it's simple, but it could be better. I haven't used much of the friends features, so I don't know how they are. The web browser is OK, not

A través de una nota interna de la compañía nipona se ha podido descubrir que el modelo de 80Gb de PlayStation 3 que ya esta a la venta en Japón también saldrá en los comercios del viejo continente.En dicha circular o revista llamada "Hd World" destinada a promover el formato Blue-Ray se ha filtrado la existencia de este nuevo modelo de PlayStation 3 para Europa.La citada nota también hace referencia a la batalla prevista en Europa entre el HD DVD y el Blue-Ray situando un precio estimado para el año 2008 de entre 275 y 475 dólares. Security-Assessment.com security consultant Nick Breese has presented a new report to the Kiwicon hacker conference in which he claims the Sony PlayStation 3, with its powerful Cell processors, can be a great asset to hackers.He claims that the console can crack passwords at speeds 300 times faster than Intel hardware can.Speed is the most important factor in "brute force" password cracking, and Breese says the PS3 helps cut down speed considerably."Suddenly we have a massive increase in terms of . . . cryptography cracking," he said. "Eight-character 'strong' passwords can be broken in a couple of days whereas before it would take weeks."Breese does note howevwer, that other password types are handled more securely and remain unaffected by Breese's findings."They're still safe. PlayStation 3 might play Blu-Ray movies, and it might help scientific research like Folding@Home, but Sony wants you to know that it's a game machine first and foremost. That was the message from Sony Computer Entertainment group CEO Kaz Hirai at his Tokyo Game Show keynote address Thursday morning, as he attempted to show the assembled press that Sony has righted its course with the embattled game player. "As the fundamental point of our system, I think it is still a game machine," Hirai said. "We want people to first enjoy it for the possibility of interactive games. If we pursue too many directions, people will keep asking us, 'What is PlayStation'?" Manhunt 2 is finally being released for the Sony PlayStation 2, and PSP and also on the Nintendo Wii, Rockstar Games has now an M rating and will be releasing it in tome for Halloween on the 31st October. Rockstar Games has said that Manhunt 2 is very important to them and they are glad that fans will be able to enjoy the new game soon. We wrote earlier this month that Rockstar was mounting an appeal in regards to the desscion of the BBFC to have an outright ban for Manhunt 2 in the UK; this was the first game in ten years that the British Board of Film Censors have banned game. After taking some inspiration from the game Gran Turismo HD, SCEI has revealed that the upcoming racing title Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released for free on the PlayStation Network for the PS3. Apparently Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will feature 16-player online races with 50 cars and 5 tracks and support for 1080p resolution. Back on August 1st we reported that the Sony PS3 was getting a TV tuner, well as expected Sony have announced at the Leipzig Games Convention that the Playstation 3 will be getting the digital TV Tuner which Sony are calling PlayTV. This great new device will give the Playstation the ability to record high-definition TV broadcasts direct to their hard drive, and these recordings can also be transferred onto a PSP as well. But Sony have not finished there as they have announced yet another new service called Go, this is for PSP owners which is a new video download service where you can purchase then download a movie direct to their PSP. As I mentioned before I want to buy a Sony Playstation 3 (as I own the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii), but was not sure to wait for more games and maybe a better Blu-ray player. After watching the Sony Playstation Eye trailer below which shows a collection of games and apps that will feature on it, I may get one sooner. I have seen the Blu-ray on the PS3 in action and it plays very well just like Sky HD. Over the past day or so there have been a ton of new and upcoming things announced for the Sony Playstation line. So much, in fact, It would be too long of a post to explain every single announcement. So I will briefly describe each new feature. I will first start with the PSP. A video download service for Sony's portable will be launched in Europe in 2008. This service would allow the user to well, download videos... Also for the PSP is it's upcoming Go! software. With Go!Messenger you will be able chat with your friends via the WiFi connection. This will include voice, text, and even video chat (with add-on camera). It will be free of charge. And with Go!Explore you get a full-fledged GPS, along with 3D representations of cities. Very cool stuff, even more reasons to pick up a PSP.Now the PS3. Ubisoft who are bringing ABC’s popular TV series to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, have announced that the game should be ready for release in the first quarter of 2008. There is now a HD Trailer for this game which is based around the survivors of a plane crash on a mystery island. The trailer does not give much away, which seems funny as the TV series to Lost is just the same. What we can say is the Lost game trailer really does look fantastic. Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have supposedly been working closely with Ubisoft, to give us a storyline that is just like the TV series.
