Kidnapped Italian priest released in Philippines: Prodi 2007-07-19 21:31:00 ROME (AFP) - Giancarlo Bossi, the Italian priest abducted last month in the Philippines, has been released, Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said late Thursday. "Father Giancarlo Bossi has been freed, a car is bringing him to a Philippines police station," Italy's ANSA news agency reported Prodi as saying. Bossi had managed to get a message to Italy's ambassador to Manila, Anna Fedele Rubens, saying he was fine, an Italian foreign ministry spokesman told AFP. Pope Benedict XVI welcomed the news with "great joy," said Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi. Bossi, 57, is a member of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME). He was seized on June 10 in Zamboanga Sibugay in the southeast Philippines.Gian Battista Zanchi, a senior PIME official told ANSA that Bossi would be given a medical check once he had arrived at Zamboanga.Prodi thanked all those who had worked for the liberation, including the foreign ministry crisis team which had remained in constant contact wi
The Philippines Society's Negative Perception Of Call Center Work 2007-07-13 04:46:00 Look at the picture. What do you see? It looks like a bunch of Filipina callcenter agents either bored or stressed out! Sadly, this is the picture majority of our society perceive our work to be. Dead-end and not a career. This is the reason why callcenter have a hard time finding qualified people themselves. The reason behind the negative perception is ignorance. Most people don't know what type of work we do and our personal sacrifice to provide for our needs and for our families. But we can't really blame them. Our industry has not done enough to enlighten more students and professionals in this matter. Even amongst ourselves, we haven't done enough to convey that what we do is an honest living and a worthwhile job.The only thing that most of us convey we are proud of is how much money we get. And that's a fact. How many times have you told non callcenter people the good things you do in a callcenter? Maybe once or maybe none. But how many times have you encouraged people to join

Virtual CallCenters: The future of Philippines outsourcing? 2007-07-05 06:46:00 There's an inconspicuous news late last month about Bayantel in partnership with an American CallCenter Solutions provider, Five9, revealed that they are now offering " Bayan On-demand" for existing outsourcers. They say they are promoting their product for 2 main reasons. 1. To provide the callcenter disaster recovery solutions that can be activated in an instant. 2. To provide the ability to expand the callcenter infrastructure in a matter of days.In laymen's terms: You can take callcenter at home! Whoopee! Or Not?CallCenterVet can tell you at least a few good reasons why this idea is going to the dumpsters. Number 1, Monitoring and Support will not be effective. With the technology now, I'm pretty sure On-demand is fitted with callcenter monitoring tools. But what about QA and coaching? What about workforce scheduling? What about Tier 2 support? Callcenter are big on those things. I'm pretty sure whoever sells On-demand will have a hard time countering objections with these. Num
The Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP): The hypocrisy 2007-07-05 04:52:00 Honestly, do you know what it is & what has it done for you? Many of you may say, what is that?!? My point exactly! To a tenured callcenter professional's view, it is the largest group of the biggest callcenter in the Philippines. Count in there almost all of the "notable" callcenter like Etelcare, Convergys, PeopleSupport, Sitel, Sykes and IBM-Daksh. I apologize if I forgot to mention your companies name. There's just too little space. This is a very timely blog because they will hold their annual gathering on July10-11. As they have for the last several years or so. Their agenda for this year's gathering to quote the article from the Business Inquirer is:"The unveiling of the Philippine callcenter industry’s road map up to 2010, in alignment with the direction of the wider business process outsourcing industry. Various sectors, such as the government, real estate, education, and information and communication technology, will respond to this challenge during the plenary sessions.
Children of Poverty in the Philippines 2007-06-20 16:00:00 A very moving painting of the last supper titled Hapag ng Pag-asa (Table of Hope) with dirty street children of poverty portrayed in a different light by Joey Velasco. A symbolical portrayal instead of the long robed apostles we see haunting images of street children tempered with scavenging in garbage dumps amidst the squalor of their surrounding. These are children of poverty exposed to the

A sneak peek on the Philippines' BPO industry 2007-05-11 01:01:00 Found an article at Outsourcing Insider...Click here to see the post.As a friend of mine from New York, NY, once said, it is very easy for foreigners to set up businesses here in the Philippines. They step off a plane, are welcomed by very hospitable people whose second language is English, do the paperwork and bang! They got a legitimate business here. Minus the ton of red tape, that's all there is to it. Pound for pound, US-based firms choose the Philippines because of the Filipinos' love for work and excellent English comprehension skills. Remember, the ability to speak English does not always correlate with understanding the meaning behind the words that make up the entire language. And this is where Filipinos excel! It is their cup of tea! With regards to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's proposal, maybe she is just being polite. To collaborate and team up in some areas doesn't necessarily mean that we will give all business opportunities to India. More often than not, foreig

Just wishing a happy Easter weekend to all my Christian friends in the Philippines! 2007-04-07 09:50:24 Well, it's a good thing for us Christians no longer resort to bloody, barbaric rituals in order to prove their faith. Look out, radical Islam! And something tells me the guy in the helmet in the bottom right pic isn't a genuine centurion. I don't know, it's just a feeling.
