U.S. vs The Philippines Head To Head
The match-up between 2 veteran amateur boxers from my 2 favorite countries is definitely something that worth watching. I just wished I had the up-link. *Sob* For Filipino boxer Violito Payla and American Rau'shee Warren. Today is a day of destiny. The winner earns a ticket to the 2008 Olympics boxing competition while the loser goes home with his ego wounded and needs to compete again in some other qualifying tournament to reach the Olympics. Today, the round of 16 will determine the 8 qualifiers for the bantamweight division of Olympic boxing.I feel that there's a lot at stake in this match-up. Both are grizzled warriors of the sport and may not be able to get another chance for the 2012 London Olympics because of the rigors of boxing and old age. Both competed in the 2004 Athens yet both didn't even make it to the final 16 round in Athens. Payla, whose age is a big factor in this head-to-head, is the definite underdog here. While for Raushee Warren, a win here would definitely be
I Nominate Manny Pacquaio To Be The Philippines Flag Bearer In The 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony!
This is the first time you'll ever read this proposition anywhere! When one thinks of the flag bearer for one's country during the opening ceremony of the Olympics where the countries' athletes and sports officials are parading on the Olympic grounds, one can only think of that person as the embodiment of the country's sports aspirations. The flag bearer is the best athlete in that country ( although not necessarily participating in the Olympic games ). For the Philippines, it would be the boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao! Manny, in recent years, has proved to be one of the best fighters in the professional boxing world. He has beaten almost every boxing legend in his weight division. 2 great Mexican professional boxers, Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales have since retired after their final duel with Manny Pacquaio. The prospect of Manny Pacquaio being the torch bearer does not seem very far off. Owing to his self-imposed duty to fight for the country's honor, I don't believe

Mayon Volcano - Albay, Bicol, Philippines
I’d love to go back to Albay, Bicol and see the perfect cone-shaped Mayon Volcano. Last time I went there was… i don’t even remember. Most of my relatives live there considering both my parents are from Bicol. Here’s more information about Mayon Volcano from Wikipedia: Mayon Volcano is an active volcano in the Philippines on the island of Luzon, in the province of Albay in the Bicol Region. Its almost perfectly-shaped cone is considered by some to be the Philippine equivalent of Mount Fuji in Japan. The volcano is situated 15 kilometres northwest of Legazpi City. Mayon is classified by volcanologists as a stratovolcano (composite volcano). Its symmetric cone was formed through alternate pyroclastic and lava flows. Mayon is the most active volcano in the country, having erupted over 50 times in the past 400 years. It is located between the Eurasian and the Philippine Plate, at a convergent plate boundary: where a continental plate meets an oceanic plate, the l

Paypal in Philippines
I heard that PayPal in the Philippines is available. It's a great news! But we can only send money via PayPal. Filipino cannot receive money via PayPal. But although we cannot receive money, at least now we can buy anything online via PayPal. It's a good start of improving our way of buying things online. It will be more better when we time comes that PayPal will enable the receiving of money in Philippines because if you have a business you can transact your money easily by the use of PayPal. I think it's the easiest way to send and receive money online.
Cell phones double as electronic wallets in Philippines, making transferring money easy
The Associated PressSAN MIGUEL, Philippines: It's Thursday, so 18-year-old Dennis Tiangco is off to a bank to collect his weekly allowance, zapped by his mother — who's working in Hong Kong — to his electronic wallet: his cell phone.Sauntering into a branch of GM Bank in the town of San Miguel, Dennis fills out a form, sends a text message via his phone to a bank line dedicated to the service. In a matter of seconds, the transaction is approved and the teller gives him 2,500 pesos (US$54), minus a 1 percent fee. He doesn't need a bank account to retrieve the money.More than 5.5 million Filipinos now use their cell phones as virtual wallets, making the Philippines a leader among developing nations in providing financial transactions over mobile networks.Mobile banking services, which are also catching on in Kenya and South Africa, enable people who don't have bank accounts to transfer money easily, quickly and safely. It's spreading in the developing world because mobile phones

The Dark Future Of Call Centers In The Philippines
If one may think of the call center being around for decades more, think again! The worst case scenario is already starting to happen. As I read one the alerts I set up on my email address for Google to bring me "call center news" anywhere, it troubled me to find out that there might be a movement to bring back outsourced jobs to the US job market. There's a lot of reasons why this movement might gain ground and support from the U.S.A. which is the main source of outsourced jobs in the world. For one, Americans are a patriotic bunch. When sector of their society is continually being repressed, it only takes one sharp tongued media personality, celebrity, politician or advocacy group to rally a huge majority of their citizenry to support bringing back jobs to the U.S. mainland.Good news for them, bad news for outsourcing for us which is just beginning to mature in the Philippines. The way I see this might be happening going to be out of our hands. Something we cannot fight. Why? Becaus

Growing Strawberries in the Philippines
They are red and seeded on the outside, fleshy and juicy in the inside. They have this small, regal-looking, green leafy cap and stem that adorn its crown. That’s fresh, plump strawberry (Fragaria ananassa) for you. But their fine-looking appearance does not last long. Strawberries are delicate, requiring gentle handling to prevent bruising. There can be [...]

An earthquake has hit the Philippines on the Island Of Mindanao with a magnitude of 6.5; the earthquake was only shallow with the epicenter just 6.3 mile deep just 225 km east of Davao City and happened at 7:46 AM MDT. People are now worrying that there could be a Tsunami as an after affect, but as yet there have not been any warnings. Also there have not been any reports of any damage. Earthquakes seem to be an everyday occurrence in the Philippenes, as they have at least six small earthquakes everyday but as they are so small they cannot be felt. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo the Philippines President is to crack down on car smuggling
President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is to crack down on car smuggling by sentencing more than 15 cars to death, as they face the steam roller. These exotic cars include a BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche Cayenne, and Carrera amongst others. These cars that face the steam roller have been smuggled into the Philippines through a former US Naval base in Subic. Arroyo wants to make an example of these cars and is hoping that car smugglers of exotic cars will be discouraged when they witness their destruction. The steam rolling of these cars will also be broadcast live across the country. Written by Peter for Product ReviewsIn Sections: Autos
The Philippines' Political Clans Control Billions in Pork Barrel!
Saw this article on pork barrel and the Philippines' political families a few days ago. Could be an interesting read. :)From GMANews.TV:A senator is entitled to P200 million in pork barrel, a congressman P70 million. Provincial governors and city and municipal mayors have access to the Internal Revenue Allotment, the local governments’ share from national taxes collected. Many political families whose members hold national and local posts thus can lay their hands on billions of pesos in taxpayers’ money.Twenty political families with many incumbent government officials elected last May have in their influence a total of close to P20 billion for this year.At least nine families have access and influence over more than P1 billion each in government funds for 2007 alone, i.e., the Marañons of Negros Occidental, the Plazas of Agusan del Sur, the Garcias of Cebu, the Garin-Cari-Petilla clan of Iloilo and Leyte, the Espinos of Pangasinan, the Zubiris of Bukidnon, the Maliksis of Cavite,
