Western England is currently experiencing the worst flooding in 60 years which has left more than 150,000 homes without clean drinking water. British military and rescue workers are working hard to keep a major electrical substation from going under because the site supplies electricity to 500,000 homes. 50,000 homes are already without electricity and the counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire have experienced over 5 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Once again it becomes clear that Mother Nature is more dangerous than human nature.Security researchers have found a major hole in the iPhone's security software, warning that the iPhone could be hacked if owners visit doctored sites or use the phone in wireless hot spots (which are now common across all major cities). Analysts have established that once hacked the phone could be used to send out spam emails, text messages and even personal information. The hole in security also affects any Mac OS

Yesterday's massive steam explosion in Manhattan has continued to be a problem for city officials. The official number of people who have been injured has reached past 30, but only one fatality has been caused. The major concern after the pipe had been sealed off was air safety. Most major steam vents are wrapped in asbestos, a highly dangerous fiber that if inhaled can cause serious health concerns. Initial tests showed no contamination in the air but after more tests were taken the debris surrounding the area was found to be half contaminated. Luckily wet conditions allowed the debris and asbestos in the air to settle quickly, killing its chances of causing more harm. For now the area is completely sealed off for blocks in what the city is terming a "frozen zone". The initial blast sent 200 degree super-heated steam shooting into the air and drifting for blocks, harming citizens and causing general panic. Once the pipe was sealed off a 25-foot crater was left in its wake that offici

The recent earthquakes in Japan have caused a major problem in relation to the nuclear plant that dumped nuclear water into the ocean. The plant has been closed down as more and more problems surface concerning possible nuclear waste leaks. Reports now have it that the leak is 50% worse than initially reported. The plant has been compromised at 50 different points which specialists are now trying to determine if these points are worthy of closing down the plant permanently. After Britain exported four Russian diplomats from its lands a lot was left up in the air. Russia started threatening to revenge the action but now they are facing a much bigger opponent. The EU has now stepped up and is supporting Britain in its actions. "The EU expresses its disappointment at Russia's failure to cooperate constructively with the UK authorities," it said in a statement. Russia has yet to issue a statement concerning this enlarging of enemies. Sounds like the bully on the playground has made one too

Last night Motiveless Crime reported on the earthquake that rocked Japan. Initial reports had it that no one had died due to the quake but by morning it was clear that at least 7 bodies have been found buried beneath rubble and the like. Over 900 civilians have been injured and another 10,000 immediately began racing to shelters. The situation only escalated when a second earthquake, this one of 6.8 magnitude, occurred on the ocean floor off of the coast of Japan. MC also reported that the world's largest nuclear plant had experienced some issues but no radioactivity had been reported to have leaked. That situation has also changed, it appears that radioactive water has been dumped into the sea.A suicide bomber has killed over 75 in a market area in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk. Nine thousand pounds of explosive were used in a highly trafficked area and most are claiming that the dead are mostly women and children. Pakistan has been rocked by suicide attacks and bombings that have left 70 or more dead this weekend. Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant violence following the attacks on the Red Mosque as insurgents promised renewed violence in retaliation. A major peace treaty was torn up over the weekend which has caused some to question whether Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf will cancel elections in the coming year and declare a state of emergency. So far Musharraf has denied such allegations.Al Qaeda actions have been greatly focused on by the media this weekend. Less than a day after the Senate's upper house doubled the reward for his capture, Osama bin Laden has released yet another video on a militant website today. The video, which was undated and lasts under a minute, extols martyrs to the Islamic faith and calls upon more Muslims to take up arms in the name of jihad.West Nile infection rates have hit 47 this season. The upper house of the Senate has become exasperated that Osama bin Laden has yet to be captured. Here I was thinking that they had completely forgotten about him on purpose. Since Bush used his leverage to halt a vote on a change of plan in Iraq, Democrats are doing anything they can to continue making changes for the better. Recent polls show that 2 out of 3 Americans support withdrawing troops within 9 months but Republicans would sooner die then allow such a logical choice. The upper house instead decided to bring up bin Laden by way of doubling the reward for his capture or body, from $25 million to $50 million. Sounds like I need to book a ticket to the Middle East.George W. Bush has publicly admitted that someone in his administration "perhaps" leaked the identity of a CIA operative. The CIA operative in question is known as being in opposition to the war in Iraq. After the Scooter Libby commute, most expected Bush to feign ignorance when it came to any more of his mistakes, ins

Pope Benedict XVI approved a document today that asserts the Roman Catholic Church as the only true Christian church. The document also goes on to state that other Christian denominations are either defective or not true churches at all and that Catholicism is the only path to salvation. It isn't like he said anything that most Catholics didn't already believe and extol in mass. Oddly enough, wasn't he recently on a mission to unite the Christian faith for the better good? This doesn't seem to mesh with that. Charles Kimball, who wrote one of my favorite books, would have something to say. Kimball, in his nonfiction When Religion Becomes Evil stated that five warning signs emerge when a religion is no longer working towards a better humanity. Those five warning signs are as follows:Absolute Truth ClaimsBlind ObedienceEstablishing the "Ideal" TimeThe End Justifies Any MeansDeclaring Holy WarEnough said.Al Qaeda has officially waged war on Iran. Google has announced that it will be purchasing Postini, a web security program, for $729 million, a move that some are saying is an attempt at making its web application suite comparable to Microsoft's. Postini is known for its encryption and security services that cover instant messaging, email and web-surfing. Google released its own Google Apps, which aims at trying to soak up small business' in need if web security. This latest acquisition is just another sign that Google wants to move up the food chain by alluring larger businesses away from the flash of Microsoft Security.New satellite imagery shows activity outside of a major Iranian uranium enrichment facility which some analysts are saying is a sign that the country is trying to protects its nuclear weapons program from possible aerial attacks. Isn't this how the US validated attacking Iraq? Someone screamed WMD and the world came-a-runnin'. It appears that this time around the country in question is going to be prepared.

Buyouts seem to be prominently figured in major media outlets lately. First it was YouTube being purchased by Google and quickly followed by their own multi-national release. That was a wonderful wakeup call to a lot of private equity groups which have since tried to buy our major media conglomerates such as Virgin Media. Here is just a sample of the past few day's buyouts:Google Buys GrandCentral CommunicationsGreat, now Google can rule communications. Seriously, this company needs to focus on what it has and stop branching out before it collapses under its own weight.Blackstone to buy Hilton for $26 billion cashThat is a sizable chunk of change. Blackstone has only been in public since the 22nd of June. It makes me wonder if the company planned this buyout to raise stock prices...isn't that cheating?CVC to acquire Samsonite for $1.1 billionSamsonite was near bankruptcy four years ago (dropping the prices of your over-hyped luggage might help) but managed to hold on and attain a lar

The events of the past few days have been almost entirely focused on the supposed terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow. The government agencies involved have arrested a total of five people in connection to the attacks but are not releasing any new information. Three others are being sought and it is believed the cell responsible is being controlled by a person going by the name "Mr Big". Instead of regurgitating the same news over, check my post from yesterday concerning the incidents.Since today's news is an attempt to catch-up on things I'll be dividing the news into sections.WorldUS airstrikes kill 65 civiliansUS and NATO forces began a bombing campaign that ended with 65 civilians dead, the majority of which were children. 50 Killed in Iraq ViolenceThe violence in Iraq is reaching new and more bloody heights today after a total of 50 bodies were found. Police found 20 beheaded bodies on a riverbank near a Sunni village. Following that startling discovery another car bomb exploded at a bus station during morning rush hour, killing 20 civilians and wounding over 40 more. Mortars rained down in the Shorja commerical district of Baghdad, killing two. A roadside bomb killed four soldiers (3 British, 1 US). Yet again Operation Arrowhead Ripper is killing more than helping anything.Bush wants Castro to disappear"One day the good Lord will take Fidel Castro away," was the most literate sentence that President George W. Bush said when responding to a question fielded at Naval War College today. Castro has long been a problem for US Presidents due to his long-lived reign and resistance to US demands on how to control his territory. Castro is now 80 and has accused Bush of signing off on an assassination attempt on

Of course this is Beta. I'm posting it now because of the many emails asking where it went!Riots in Iran following fuel rationingOne of yesterday's major headlines concerned a large number of riots that happened in Iran over the day due to fuel rationing that was put into effect with a mere three hours warning. Citizens took to the streets and the chaos eventually led to 19 petrol stations being lit afire. This latest surge of outbreaks is only part of the anger sweeping the country since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took office two years ago. Ahmadinejad promised to place "oil income on people's tables." So far that promise has only come true for the people higher on the food chain. Apparently lines of cars for miles started forming trying to beat the three hour deadline. One can't help but imagine what ch
