| Movies That Kick My Ass, No. 10: Fargo 2007-06-21 12:33:59 Movies That Kick My AssNo. 10: Fargo Fargo is a tough film to pin down. It?s entertaining to read through the reviews written at the time of its release early in 1996, to see how different critics tried to define it within different genres. To some it was a thriller, to some a black comedy, to some a quirky post-modern horror film ? the love-child of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and Scream, perhaps. The range and diversity of its tone is what, aside from its many other virtues, ultimately makes it such a great and unique piece of work. Most other films, particularly those in the above genres, reveal their stories carefully so the audience will always know exactly what?s going on, double-back to make sure important details haven?t been missed, and cue viewers so they know how to feel about what they are seeing. Fargo utilizes the same techniques, but uses them to tease the audience rather than to spoon-feed them. To try and shoehorn the film into a particular genre is to miss the |
| Canada Makes Camcording of Movies Illegal 2007-06-11 08:51:00 Canada working to shed image of being a movie pirate's heaven In a report submitted by the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) earlier this year, Canada was named as one of the top offenders. Canada is now taking steps toward changing its ranks on the IIPA?s list with the introduction of new legislation banning the recording of films in theatres. Prior to the legislation, it was illegal to record a movie for commercial use, but legal if done for personal use. Since it was almost impossible to prove the intended purpose of the recording, theatres could only eject those caught making recordings. Theaters would not be able to sieze the recorded material. The new legislation makes it illegal to record a film regardless of intended use, and those caught could face up to five years in prison. After the U.S. criminalized the act of recording movies in 2005, pirates shifted their operations to Canada. According to Reuters, an estimated 20 to 25 percent of pir |

| You can watch movies online on Netflix 2007-05-15 21:41:48 I didn’t know that as a subscriber to Netflix, I can now watch movies online. They should have at least tried sending me an email to tell me about this but I guess they didn’t. Movies are not that new though, I watched True Lies and the Negotiator, old movies but good movies.
You can’t really watch all the movies 24/7. There is a time limit, the amount you pay for your subscription is the time you have to watch movies online. I think I am on their $13 plan, which means 13 hours of online movies for a month. I don’t think I will ever watch that many hours of movies online because of their medieval movie collection in their online movie database.
One more thing about Netflix, I always wondered why they don?t show all the new releases when you check out their new releases page, maybe coz every one wants new releases as soon as they are released? I have to check out Hollywood store to find out what?s release so then I can search.
I don’t care what their rea |

| Top 10 Greatest Baseball Movies of All-Time 2007-05-04 07:00:51
Baseball is one of my obsessions, so it was only a matter of time before I figured out a way to work it into this site. Baseball is the All-American past time. We all know that “Mom, baseball, and Apple Pie” have long been thought of as the three things most closely associated with this country. Baseball, for all of its problems of late, is still a major part of the American psyche. Many of us have fond memories of lazy summer afternoons watching a game at the local park, a professional stadium, or on TV. Probably every boy in America has played at least one season of little league. Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, Ripkin, and Robinson are still household names, known to every American. That is why, the passion, the drama, and the love of this great game have long been the fodder of another great American institution, Hollywood.
Below are what I believe to be the ten best baseball movies of all-time. In selecting these movies, I looked for movies that were first and foremost |

| Movies That Kick My Ass, No. 9: Elephant 2007-04-20 14:28:21 Movies That Kick My AssNo. 9: Elephant Gus Van Sant made Elephant four years after the massacre at Columbine High School. Watching it is like witnessing the slaughter from the inside. At Columbine, students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered twelve of their peers and one of their teachers, then each committed suicide. Van Sant?s film, inspired by but not a factual depiction of the Columbine shootings, is immediate and chillingly authentic, as though it?s all just happened again. He shot on location at an actual school in Portland, Oregon, with a relatively low budget (around $3 million), working with a cast composed almost entirely of unknown or non-professional actors, and made one of the most unsettling, emotionally devastating movies I?ve ever seen. Aside from the subject matter (and the dread of inevitability which covers the film like a shadow), Elephant is unsettling because it is simultaneously naturalistic and dreamlike. Individual scenes are staged and acted realistically |
