So, I’m feeling like crap today and I’m flat on my back watching a couple DVDs.  I’d heard of both of them, but never got the chance to see them, and it’s so rare that I rent two movies and neither of them suck. The first one is Hard Candy, which takes the whole victim-turns-on-the-creep concept of films like The Accused and I Spit On Your Grave and mixes it with the modern day equivalent, i.e., the “torture porn” of films like Saw, where sadism is used by a psychopath to achieve some warped end of justice.  In this one, a young girl catches a short eyes trawling for chicks in a chat room and instead of calling John Stossel, she takes matters into her own hands.  I’m not going to give away more, but suffice to say it’s a very tough film to watch made tougher by it’s intimacy.  There’s really only two characters in the movie, and most of it is dialog between them.  What made the film really stand out for me is that I coul

My Top 10 Favorite Christmas Movies of All Time Over the course of the past month I have watched many of my favorite holiday films with my kids. It was fun to share these with them as it brought back great memories of my own childhood. So I thought I would put together a list of my favorite Christmas movies to share with everyone. #10 - Rich Little’s A Christmas Carol It has probably been many years since this has been seen on television but, I can remember watching this every Christmas with my Dad when I was a kid. If you haven't read anything about the story (as I did, before I went to see it at the Fantasy Film Festival in Stuttgart/Germany), than you'll probably be surprised by the twists and turns this takes. The title does suggest something, but before this concept starts to annoy you, you will get the first twist in the story. I thought it was a refreshing (new?) take on things. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's not by the numbers either ...At least not entirely. Jackson and Cusack. Well worth your money and time. If you are a Stephen King fan, then you will love this movie. I also suggest that you pick up and read the short story Room 1408. The movie truly captures the essence of the story, and when watching it, you'll think "Wow... this is definitely a Stephen King movie."The film is so convincing that I couldn't believe that King didn't write the screenplay himself. This is a wonderful way to spend a few hours; I'm definitely going to see this one again.This film also breaks away from the (at least recent) standard of having a crummy, thrown together story with copious amounts of gore thrown in in place of plot. It depicts the iconic singer-songwriter through seven distinct stages of his life by using six different actors/actress (Marcus Carl Franklin, Ben Whishaw, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Cate Blanchett).
