Hey Motorola! 1986 Called...
You guys remember back in the days of Crocodile Dundee, Wang Chung, and Alf? Well apparently the team of guys who came up with the design for the new Motorola M990 must have used that era for inspiration in the new "Smart Rider" device. It looks like a BlackBerry mated with a pair of Blue Blocker sunglasses and decided to smoke crystal meth during the pregnancy. For those who don't follow, we think this thing is hideous and outdated looking. You're never gonna get out of your rut with devices like this. It gets better. Wait until you see who the target audience is... "with stylish and full features set, it is targeted to a broad band of markets looking for exclusivity like business men, limousines and private cars looking for stylish communication and navigation solution..." FCC - Electromagnetic Compatibility Test Report (PDF)So, if you have a car that looks like this, then you'll love the M990. It doesn't even have a cord on it! Seriously Motorola, from the concept all th
Brown to Oversee Motorola Handset Business
First leaked in an internal email to Reuters and later confirmed by a press release, new CEO Greg Brown has assumed control of the handset division and will oversee it himself. Is he going to right the ship and take them out of the storm? After recent news and speculation, it's more likely that he is he going to clean it up and make it real shiny-like for potential buyers. So what happened to the guy who was supposed to be running the handset division, Stu Reed? He's going to remain with the company and work with Brown on the handset business according to Reuters. For those needing help with translating that, he's going to be the first guy to take orders from Brown. The official 'yes' man.Lot's of luck to Brown, Reed and Motorola. Let's hope they can turn things around.Source: RCR NewsAndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

Motorola Exploring Realignment
Officially, Motorola is considering selling off or branching off their handset business. Unofficially, nothing concrete has been decided, yet. You guys follow that? Shedding themselves of the handset division would not necessarily kill MOT off completely. Consider that they still produce equipment for WiFi, WiMax, set-top boxes, etc. After plummeting profits, losing market share, and unhappy shareholders, it might be a good move for them. All of our businesses have exceptional people, products and intellectual property and the ability to achieve category leadership in their markets,” said Greg Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer. We are exploring ways in which our Mobile Devices Business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realize the value of this great franchise.Motorola Media Center announcement.AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

Motorola Leaving Handset Business?
The numbers are bad, but are they that bad? According to one guy, they might be. Richard Windsor, an analyst with Nomura International thinks that Motorola may exit the handset business and concentrate on becoming an enterprise and government company. Further, he speculates that they might be prime for a good, old-fashioned Chinese buyout. Respect knuckles to MarketWatch for this one. Motorola MOTOFONE F3 Review
DesignWhat does seventy bucks buy you? Well, in mobile terms, any number of capped plans for a month, or about one-tenth of a decent phone. What you wouldn't normally expect it to get you is a half-decent phone -- or at least a phone that looks like it was designed in the last six years. That's where Motorola's low-cost MOTOFONE is deceptive; it's a thin, stylish phone with enough features liberally cribbed from Motorola's bag of design tricks to appeal to most users -- but it's also only one dollar short of seventy bucks. For some mobile phone users, that's practically throwaway money. The other notable thing about the MOTOFONE, from a design perspective, is that it's remarkably thin for a candybar form factor phone. It measures in at 114 by 47 by 9 millimetres with a carrying weight of 70 grams. The keypad is large and easy to use, with simple dial, hang up, contacts and menu buttons surrounding a five-way keypad.FeaturesThe crux of whether or not the MOTOFONE will appeal to

Motorola and Angstrom Bring the First Fuel-powered Mobile Phone
Angstrom Power Inc., a company based in Vancouver, Canada, together with Motorola, the US mobile manufacturer, have completed a six-months trial using a new technology that promises to reinvent the way mobile phones are powered. Angstrom developed a revolutionary mobile solution intended to replace the standard Lithium batteries with a platform that uses hydrogen to provide the needed power. The "Micro Hydrogen" platform includes a refillable hydrogen storage tank, advanced micro-fluidics and an innovative fuel cell architecture. Angstrom and Motorola implemented the new platform on a MOTOSLVR L7 (Motorola SLVR L7) phone, without changing the phone's looks and size (and we must say that MOTOSLVR L7 is a slim handset, having only 11.5 millimeters in thickness). With the hydrogen-powered platform, the phone managed to provide twice the talk-time than it does when equipped with a standard Lithium battery."As consumer demand for smartphones and multimedia devices grows, so does the need

CES 2008: Motorola ROKR E8 and Z10 - Short Review
Motorola takes music phones to a new level with the ROKR E8, which uses innovative ModeShift technology to transform this glossy handset into a music player. With the touch of a button the perfectly flat virtual dialpad disappears and is replaced by music playback controls, and they feel like real buttons because of the amazing work Motorola has done to improve haptics technology. A variable-speed FastScroll navigation wheel makes it simple to scroll through the ROKR E8’s menus by sliding your thumb, as well as up to 1,500 songs stored on the 2GB of memory. And the sound quality rivals what you would expect from standalone music players, whether you’re listening through traditional earphones (plugged into the 3.5mm jack) or the powerful speaker.Just when you thought Motorola only knew how to make RAZRs in different flavors, the company busts out two multimedia phones that truly impress, one a music-focused handset that morphs personalities based on how you’re using it and the oth

Motorola W270 featured in Motorola CES booth
Here's another affordable handset that Motorola launched at the 2008 CES, the Motroola W270.Unlike the W230, the Motorola W270 is a clamshell phone, however don't expect the RAZR thin design because unlike the RAZR phone line, the Motorola W270 is a bit on the bulky side. The design actually reminds me of the previous Motorola MPX220 phone but with lots of colors instead of the silver design. If the Motorola W270 is indeed like the MPX220, then you'd like that this clamshell phone has a more solid feel and you can actually here it lock into place when opened. The Motorola W270 only supports dual band GSM technology and like the W230, it has a built-in FM Radio and has a microSD expansion slot. There's no digital camera on this baby, but if you're looking for a solid, music-centered and affordable mobile phone with a bit more stylish flare, then you can find it all here on the Motorola W270.Related Posts:Motorola W230Sony Ericsson W760Sprint HTC Mogul aka PPC-6800 Review
Motorola W230: newest affordable handset from Motorola
I always liked Motorola's low-end handsets. It's because even though they're cheap, they're still feature-packed, which is something I can't say about low-end handsets from Nokia. The Motorola W230 is their latest affordable handset. The Motorola W230 has a candy-bar design and frankly, not really that stylish. The only thing I can say about Motorola's low-end handsets is that even though they have greater features than others, their design sucks. You can change the color of your Motorola W230 since it has interchangeable faceplates. The Motorola W230 also offers a built-in FM radio, something which is lacking even on their RAZR phones, it also has a microSD slot which can support up to 2GB of external memory. If you're looking for a basic phone with mediocre music-playing capabilities, then the Motorola W230 is worth checking out.Pricing for the Motorola W230 has not yet been announced but it is expected to be available during the first quarter of 2008.RELATED POSTS:Motorola ROKR
Motorola ROKR E8 an iPhone killer? Not!
Okay, at first glance, from the pictures, that is, you might think that the new Motorola ROKR E8 is a touchscreen phone that can rival the iPhone, well, think again. The whole face of the Motorola ROKR E8 is not touchscreen, in fact, the phone only has a 2 inch screen, smaller than the screen on their new Razr2 phones. This is because the Motorola ROKR E8 gives the illusion that it has a touchscreen since it only illuminates the buttons you need depending on what mode you're in. The first photo is the image of the Motorola ROKR E8 in music mode, notice that there's no keypad and you get dedicated music keys. The second image is of the Motorola ROKR E8 in phone mode, notice that there are now the alphanumeric keys you can see on an ordinary mobile phone. The third image is of the Motorola ROKR E8 in photo mode, with only the zoom in and out and camera buttons highlighted. The Motorola ROKR E8 definitely looks like a cool phone and might push Motorola back in the number two position this
