“The announcement had largely been expected, as reports emerged over the weekend such a decision had been made by Yahoo’s board of directors.
“Yahoo’s board of directors has carefully reviewed Microsoft’s unsolicited proposal with Yahoo’s management team, and financial and legal advisers, and has unanimously concluded that the proposal is not in the best interests of Yahoo and our stockholders,” the company said in a statement Monday.
“After careful evaluation, the board believes that Microsoft’s proposal substantially undervalues Yahoo, including our global brand, large worldwide audience, significant recent investments in advertising platforms and future growth prospects, free cash flow, and earnings potential, as well as our substantial unconsolidated investments,” the company further no | | Yahoo! rechaza la oferta de Microsoft 2008-02-10 07:44:00 Según la prensa, Yahoo! ha desestimado la oferta de 44.600 millones de dólares por parte de Microsoft para obtener el control de la compañía. This is one of the worst applications I have ever seen in my entire life. I use Excel a ton, and am pretty fluent in much of the application. While there are some things I’d love to change about Excel, I am pretty happy with it and was hoping to only see some modest improvements and some much-needed tweaks to certain areas. Instead, they completely overhauled the application for apparently the only purpose of making large but unnecessary and superfluous changes in the user-interface and navigational areas of the application. We got a preemptive taste of what something like this might feel like with that banged up impostor-phone, the “Nokia” N94i — but now things are getting real… ish. According to Microsoft’s mobile communications business international marketing director (phew) John Starkweather, Redmond is in talks with the folks from Finland about getting Windows Mobile onto Nokia handsets. “They obviously have significant investments in Symbian but there are a lot of places where we have significant synergies and we would love to see the day where those synergies would extend completely with Windows Mobile,” said Starkweather, though he couldn’t say when or if any agreement will be met. “We work closely with Nokia and we would love to have them go all the way,” Starkweather said. “It’s something we talk about all the time.”

My boss Lance recently wrote a column about how Macs need security software too. In his column he pointed out that Mac users are no smarter than Windows users. I respect where Lance is coming from, we’re all human and quite capable of making mistakes. However, I think he got it wrong. It’s not necessarily just about the users, it’s also about the companies and people who create the operating systems that we use each day.
Frankly, there’s no other way to say this: Microsoft is stupid and Apple is not.
