AT&T has confirmed that a 3G version of the Apple iPhone will be hitting stores in 2008, but with no set month for release as of yet."You'll have it next year," said CEO Randall Stephenson. Stephenson could not elaborate on how fast the new device would be but it will be faster than the current HSPA network, which can theoretically run at speeds up to 3.6Mbps. When asked about the price, Stephenson said that Apple CEO Steve Jobs "will dictate what the price of the phone is."In the past, Jobs has announced that 3G was "highly sought-after" but that the iPhone would not have it included until the battery life was not as severely affected. "So as you know, the handset battery life used to be 5-6 hours for GSM," Jobs explained. "but when we got to 3G they got cut in half. Most 3G phones have battery lives of 2-3 hours [of talk time]." It is (somewhat) official. Or at least on AT&T's side. AT&T's CEO Randall Stephenson stated that the 3G model of the iPhone will be released next year. And what I am thinking is, why didn't they just release it to begin with? I'm sure people would rather wait a few months to get a 3G version, even if it costs $100 more than the now $400 iPhone. To me it seems like a bad idea to say right before christmas that a new version of a device will be released the next year. I am guessing that they will sell fewer now that this is in the public eye. Though, we don't know when the 3G model will come out yet. That's for Steve Jobs to decide...Thank you for subscribing to my blog!

No es un rumor ni afirmación nueva, pero da la sensación de que todo el mundo ha admitido ya que Apple sacará su iPhone en versión 3G en España para mayo de 2008, y con Movistar. Aunque todos pensábamos que el motivo de no haberlo sacado ya en España es que no tenían un modelo 3G en condiciones (grosor, autonomía, etc), al parecer todo obedece solamente a stock de iPhones. Sería de esperar también que mejoraran la autonomía gracias a los nuevos chips con 3G integrado de menor consumo y tamaño, así como memoria flash de mayor tamaño y menor precio, que para mayo ya estarán.
