Looks like there may have been a possible leak of the next version of Apple's iPhone firmware, 1.1.3. According to Gear Live, it can now handle SMS to multiple recipients, the springboard (home screen) supports reordered icons and pagination (as well as web bookmarks), and Google maps gets hybrid view and that nifty cell-based location system. If this is all Steve plans to announce iPhone-wise at Macworld next month, we think there will be more than a few disappointed iPhone users out there. Seems there are lots of announcements from Google these days. After Google Calendar’s compatibility with BlackBerry phones, Google has now announced support of Picasa photo service for iPhone. What does this new compatibility mean? The new features will include capability to search for photos in albums or through community photos. Google mentioned that the new feature will also allow viewing friends’ albums through favorites. The iPhone and iPod Touch users can download the Picasa Photo features from Picasa website. On the other hand, users can also log on to Google.com and launch the application from the “More” tab. As per Google, the only disadvantage could be that the new Picasa photo service for iPhone is now available only in English. Part Foundry are currently working on a dongle that will bring the long-desired GPS feature to the iPhone. Branded as locoGPS, the device promises true GPS backed by open source software, but if the teaser video is any indication, it may not be the GPS experience you're expecting. The photo you see above is only a concept design. In its current stage of development, the locoGPS is a rough piece of hardware that uses a slightly confusing toggle process to get GPS working on any Jailbroken iPhone (they are also in the testing phases for an iPod touch solution). The early software merely finds your coordinates and plugs them into the Google Maps application. For now, thats it. The beauty of the locoGPS is that it can be improved upon because of it's open source design. If this gets a real time navigational map and a few useful plugins, it could be a popular iPhone add-on. I will make this quick. If you read my last post, or are just now hearing about it, a Playstation Emulator has been in the works for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. Well psx4iphone is now released, so quick, download it and start up Metal Gear Solid or something... I would assume you would need to unlock or jailbreak your device before you can install the emulator, but I don't think that's too hard. ZodTTD has made good on a promise to release their psx4iphone application to the public just a handful of days after announcing the project, meaning that the iPhone could very well end up taking a slot beside the PSP as a premier destination for portable PlayStation gaming. One of the bigger issues with the Apple iPhone that made everyone on the planet go 'What the...?' was the fact that this Super phone had a camera, great, but not only was it a simple point and shoot with no settings, it was also devoid of video recording capabilities. That is now about to stand corrected. Although it is NOT Apple who has revamped the camera but a third part application that will provide this facility.A beta version of the iPhone video recording application was developed by the Monster and Friends. The latest update tells us that the application, although has it’s limitations due to the iPhone’s RAM, is able to record videos at a frame rate of 40-45 fps with no recording limit. We're not certain why anyone treats the inevitable arrival of a second-gen iPhone sometime next year as earth-shattering news, but Goldman Sachs released a note to clients yesterday saying that the rumored 3G version is in its "final design phase." The investment firm's David Bailey says he got the info from the usual assortment of moderately-reliable Asian component suppliers, and that he expects the new model to have "similar form factor" with a "different look."
