| | iPhone Dev Wiki update: the floodgates have opened 2007-07-25 15:31:00 Thanks in large part to the work by the gents at the Dev Wiki, a working toolchain -- including a compiler, assembler, and linker -- and the dedicated efforts of many inspired types, the iPhone apps are arriving en masse. So far the list includes tools like a working Apache we server, python, shell -- and a pile of associated binaries like ls, rm, echo, csh, and tsh -- and while these might not be terribly thrilling for Joe everyday user, they are a pretty kicking start. We could start to see all manner of fun stuff arriving in the coming weeks, unless, of course, Apple pulls the plug via an update.MORE... | | iPhone hacked for untethered EDGE data on laptop 2007-07-25 15:18:00 While this would be all the more sweet on a 3G iPhone, a new series of hacks will now give you untethered EDGE networking from your laptop. Starting with jailbreak as any proper iPhone hack must, the latest hack installs a new SOCKS server on your iPhone. Join your iPhone and laptop to the same ad-hoc WiFi network and you're pretty much good to go. The procedure is a bit cumbersome if this is your first hack attempt so be sure to check the YouTube video-how-to before you get going.MORE... | | Nine Hacks That Will Make You the Master of Your IPhone 2007-07-24 23:55:50 Only a few days after the iPhone went on sale, hackers were already kicking the wheels and checking under the hood to see if they could pimp out Apple’s locked-down smartphone. After a month, they’ve made surprising progress. Below, we detail some of the milestone hacks for what has been called “the most significant consumer electronics product ever.”
Most of the hacks that have been publicized so far are aimed at controlling or enhancing your own iPhone, but a darker side has emerged too. A security firm announced a possible Wi-Fi-based browser exploit, which could give hackers access to an iPhone’s microphone, surfing history and contact information — and possibly website and e-mail passwords stored on the phone, too. Make no mistake: The iPhone is a magnet for hackers, both good and bad. July 24, 2007 (Computerworld) — The iPhone vulnerability that could let hackers steal data or commandeer the device also exists in the desktop edition of Apple Inc.’s Mac OS X operating system, the exploit’s researchers said today.
Charles Miller, one of the three researchers from Baltimore-based Independent Security Evaluators who found the bug and wrote proof-of-concept exploits, confirmed that the vulnerability in the iPhone version of Safari is also present in the desktop version of the browser. Safari is included with all Mac OS X installations. Analysts had estimated that 200,000 to 500,000 of the highly anticipated Apple Inc. product would be sold in the first three days.
AT&T, the exclusive carrier for the iPhone, released quarterly financial results but would not reveal how many new devices were sold. It would only say that the iPhone had continued to sell well this month after the initial weekend frenzy at Apple and AT&T stores beginning June 29.Wall Street shaved 35 cents off its shares, which closed Tuesday at $39.68.

Now this is bizarre because Apple stores charge an entrance fee of $5 to see iPhone and next gen iPods, large crowds are flocking to see the iPhone and the next generation iPods so to beat the crowds Apple are charging customers which is totally crazy but hey what a way to make money.
The reason they are charging this entrance fee is to limit crowds to keep stores safe but they also want to keep the right kind of customer in the stores it was reported by a Vince Sciopiano the vice president of retail outlets, he also went on to say that by saying that of right customers he means true Apple customers with money and will to pay just to look at their newest wares.
In side the store geniuses will be there but outside the store their will be guards who will guard the window displays and entrances. So what do you get for $5? Well you will get an Apple button which allows you to enter the store and it is used to track customer’s movements.
Would you pay $5 to enter an Apple store?

A reader called Nomad7674 let this one out on the new Apple Bluetooth headset and the question is “Does this mean it is specific to the iPhone? The new Apple branded Bluetooth headset and we know that because you can clearly see the Apple logo on the headset in the picture below.
The apple headset comes packaged in a black box which is not nothing special with the Bluetooth earpiece in the centre; a combo dock accommodates the iPhone and headset with a USB cable and a nice travel cable for the headset only. Nomad7674 goes on to say that when the headset and the iPhone are connected to the dock the hyped up iPhone display depicts the headset plus its current charge (neat).

While the lowercase "e" in front of the name might suggest it's a survivor of the early 1990s dot-com boom, it actually started out in 2003 and resides not in the Silicon Valley, but Amsterdam. It's also one of the few companies I've seen that has put almost its entire press kit on Flickr. eBuddy specializes in Web-based IM, which might sound familiar if you've ever used Meebo or the Web version of your favorite chat client. eBuddy works with three of the major clients, including AIM, MSN, and Yahoo. The term techo-geek, short for Technology Geek, no longer applies to just the pocket protector using, braces wearing, non athletic, characters pictured in the TV shows and Movies. Now, this once derogatory term can be applied to the masses at large with no negative connotation whatsoever.
We all love our cell phones and PDAs and that love is only getting stronger as or lives demand our input in events at various locations simultaneously. As new technology provides more and more “stay in touch capacity.” We quickly fill that capacity with a new task that we add to our list. Technology is only feeding the internal human desire to do as much as possible, as fast as possible, while on the move.
