Powerful Women From History
One of the new writers for my blog is Kandace. Kandace has started a new series on the Strength of Ancient Women starting with a post she just did in regards to Spartan women, then telling the story of an African Queen or Warrior (we're not sure yet), then more powerful women from history including Egypt, Greece and Atlantis to name a few. She and I were both attracted to the movie 300 that come out earlier this spring. She was especially attracted to the strength of the Spartan women and began to do some research on them, what they had to go through, how they trained and began to find some fascinating information about it.Well, she's now writing about the Women of Sparta on my blog.I asked Kandace to continue the series with more powerful women from history so that we could explore the strength of ancient women.Kandace actually channels the women from history who want to have their stories told, to inspire women from today to tap into their inner strength.I'm told that there are
Rich History of Washington Scandal
Oh wow our government makes me proud. This article puts this Senator Craig incident into historical perspective...The rich history of powerful figures accused of misbehavior shows they tend to deny it indignantly, try to ride the storm with tortured explanations, then give in to contrition if they're cornered. Not Craig. First came an admission of guilt - and now the defiant protestation of innocence. His declaration Tuesday that "I did nothing wrong" came weeks after he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in the men's room at Minneapolis airport. He vowed to tough it out even as his party's leaders called for a Senate ethics investigation.Be sure to stop by for more later...
A Clock With A Very Interesting History
A Clock With A Very Interesting HistoryHere are pictures of The Thomas Grandfather Clock, made by a Chinese gentleman, using only a crude handsaw. It was built using only a razor blade, a pair of tweezers & a fingernail clipper & it took four months for Roger Sutton to build it! This is really a good one."I will include parts of his letter he sent to us:Dear Steve,I hope you haven't forgotten me. I'm Roger Sutton, the one that is in prison. I'm sending you pictures of the clock I built using your plans. This clock is built out of all paper and popsicle sticks and the gear shafts are wooden pencils. I built this clock with only a razor blade, a pair of tweezers and a fingernail clipper. It sound impossible, but these were the only tools I had to build it with. And I want you to know it took me four months to build it!I would like to ask you, could I get these pictures on the Internet where people could see my clock? I think it would inspire people to do more woodworking. This is the
Disney makes cable history
Wow --- that 'High School Musical 2' really has left its mark. This past weekend Greg Oden at the Teen Choice Awards said that he was auditioning for High School Musical 3... I couldnt tell if that was a joke -- but went on the assumption that it was.Disney's "High School Musical 2" earlier this month became the most-watched individual program in cable history (17.2 million viewers for its preem), but the network was loaded with high-octane performers including episodes of the "Hannah Montana" and "Suite Life of Zack & Cody" series and theatrical movies such as "Ella Enchanted" and "Spy Kids 3: Game Over."Be sure to stop by for more later...

History of Singapore
Today school function half day. It is National Day Celebration. Clara wore red shirts with her normal uniform skirt. Ricsson wore his PE attire. The children were so happy and excited about it. They went to school at 7am and came back at 1030am. They were so happy, waving the Singapore flag and singing the National Day Songs. Talking about National Day, how well do you know about the History of Singapore? I am very poor in my History. I am very good at Science and Mathematics. I can be the highest in class for Science, Maths and arts. But when it comes to History, I am the lowest in Class. I have no interest in History. For me I find history very boring. Why study something which happened so long ago? Maybe it is interesting to know, but when it comes to exam, I hate to remember dates and names of people. To know the History of Singapore, QiHua Primary School has done a very good job at it. At QiHua Primary School, this National Education Gallery Corner has what Singapore is al
Great Dark Evil Lessons of History
History of Conures
Conures are either large parakeets or small parrots that are found in the western hemisphere. Despite being large for parakeets, conures are lightly built with long tails and small (but strong) beaks. Conure beaks always have a small cere and are usually horn-colored or black. Most conure species live in flocks of 20 or more birds. Conures often eat grain, which causes them to be treated as agricultural pests in some places. Conures were first described in literature in 1724 by Jean Baptiste Labat, a French priest who spent thirteen years as a missionary in the colonies of the West Indies. While there, he also studied and documented many of the native species of plants and animals he saw. Labat prescribed and drew pictures of a species of bird he called Aratinga labati on the island of Guadaloupe. Some naturalists believe this green parrot with a few red head feathers may have been a captive Cuban conure (Aranting eupos), or he may be a now-extinct species. Conures began to be import

This Peruvian capital is worth a visit By Phyllis Steinberg People have lived in Peru since 10,000 B.C. when groups of hunters traveled the valleys and coastal areas of Lima searching for food. Today, this capital city founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535, is a blend of colonial and modern

The Greatest E-mail Exchange in the History of the World
I was made aware of the Oscar the Cat story by my brother, Tim. He emailed me a link to the article. Later, after I wrote my blog post stating my belief Oscar the Cat was a serial killer, I sent Tim an email with a link so he could go read it. And so began the greatest email exchange in the history of the world: Tim: Not your best work… You could’ve done better. Me: It’s comic gold and you know it. Tim: It’s funny, but you could’ve made it better. Me: Probably, but my brain isn’t working today. Our coffee machine keeps breaking. Also, I skipped lunch. Bad decision. Tim: You just jumped into the accusation of a killer cat feet first… You needed to set it up a little better. Me: I did set it up a little…with my “which is more likely” rhetorical question. Tim: It was very weak. Me: Weak like a fox. Tim: Yes, weak like a sickly, decrepit fox with muscular dystrophy. Me: Have you ever met a sickly, decrepit fox with muscular dystrophy? The thing can still bench

A History of the Boxer Norton
The boxer Ken Norton was born in 1943 and he was a world champion as well as a heavyweight boxer. Norton is one of the few boxers to beat Muhammad Ali, and broke the jaw of “The Greatest”. As a school kid Ken Norton was not just a boxer, but a great athlete. As a result of his success, the school brought in a “Ken Norton Rule” which limits participation of an athlete to a maximum of three track and field events. As well as a great boxer Norton was also a US Marine and this is in fact where he started boxing. The highlight of his boxing career came in 1973 when he beat Muhammad Ali and also broke Ali’s jaw during the fight. What do you think of the boxer Norton and his boxing career? History of The League of Nations
Today we have the United Nations, but it wasn’t always this way. After World War One, the League of Nations was set up so that countries could solve their quarrels by diplomatic means, rather than military. The idea was put forward by US President Woodrow Wilson, as part of his 14 point program for peace after WW1. Unfortunately, the USA actually never joined the League of Nations even though it was a US President who originally had the idea. The League of Nations had targets for disarmament, preventing war through collective security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation diplomacy and improving global welfare. However the League of Nations was ultimately a failure as it did not stop conflict and most importantly did not stop the second world war and the conflicts that happened during the great depression. The main reason why the League of Nations failed was because the USA was never a member, so any sanctions that were implment of aggressive nations suchas Italy
