Final, I promise, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival post
Last year I neglected to post a round-up of the films I saw at the Festival. This year I'm remedying that, mostly for myself. Maybe it will be helpful to someone else as well. I'm utilizing the Chicago Reader's star ratings system with a bit of modification. ???? means Masterful, rather than Masterpiece, a word I dislike: It seems to imply historical significance that has not yet been earned. For me, it's a movie made by master filmmakers that has moved me in some profound way. ??? means...
Beavis and Butthead Creator Reveals Animated Short Film of "Office Space"
Educadorian born and American raised animator Mike Judge, best known as the creator of MTV's wildly popular 90's show "Beavis and Butthead," is easily one of the most talented and successful animators in American popular culture history.Judge, also a writer, actor, voice actor, animator and producer, among other things, created an animated short of "Office Space" in 2000 that looks and feels alot like a spin-off of "Beavis and Butthead"; if nothing else, Judge's signature style is clearly evident in this short film. Ultimately, the short inspired Judge to write and direct the cult classic, full-featured film "Office Space" - a movie that unearths the daily drudgery's of the office - paper work and forms, prick bosses who eog-trip off others' vulnerabilities, malfunctioning printers and copy machines, stale coffee and disgruntled employees who are literally driven to crime.Update: Some how, someone just took the animated short off of YouTube a few minutes ago. Was it because of thi

Help!! 10-year old Accura Zoom 80 film camera is taking blurry photos all of a sudden
I've never had any problems with my camera since I purchased it 10 years ago. All of a sudden, in the middle of a roll of film I recently shot, half the photos came out blurry. I read my manual, it said to clean the lens and autofocus windows. I ...

Germans to Tom Cruise and Film Crew: Nein!
The German government has denied permission to Tom Cruise and his current movie production team for access to military bases due to Cruise’s affiliation with The Scam “Church” of Scientology. Cruise was in Germany to film scenes for his upcoming WWII which deals with an attempt on Hitler’s life. Turns out the German government is a bit wiser and tougher than the U.S. government when it comes down to blocking these Scientologist clowns from operating as they’d please. According to the Associated Press, “Germany doesn’t recognize Scientology as a church. It says Scientology is a money making venture that masquerades as religion.” No kidding. Oh boy, this must really got Tom’s thetans all worked up!
Leading Democratic Candidates for US President Side-Stepping Comments on the Film 'SICKO'
Why are the leading candidates so uncomfortable with this film anyway? Unless of course they actually KNOW that there is something to be uncomfortable about... My favorite candidate, Dennis Kucinich isn't intimidated at all. In fact, here he is with Michael Moore in this very interesting endorsement video. I can't wait to see the movie, "SICKO" for myself. From everything I'm seeing and hearing about it, it should be very intriguing indeed. READ ABOUT THIS HEREPractice non-violence in your lives. You will be leaving your children a beautiful legacy.
Foodfight! computer-animated film
Foodfight! is a computer-animated film produced by Threshold Entertainment and directed by Larry Kasanoff. Its distributor Lions Gate Films has recently announced it will premiere in the U.S in April 11, 2008. Starring the voices of Charlie Sheen, Hilary Duff, Wayne Brady, Eva Longoria, Greg Ellis, Haylie Duff, Chris Kattan and Christopher Lloyd. When night falls on the supermarket aisles, and the humans all go home, the grocery store transforms into a teeming metropolis where the detergent aisle looks like Manhattan’s Seventh Avenue and the boxes of Tide resemble the Chrysler building. It is time for these product icons to come alive in this wild city and head towards the hottest club in town, the Copacabana, to party! However, all's well until Brand X moves in. A showdown of gross (pro)portions, FOODFIGHT! follows the epic adventures of some of the most famous branded characters in the world and some original super(market) heroes as Dex Dogtective, Daredevil Dan and others as they

Cat Protests Gardening, Film at 6!
I like to put a silly video here every week, and I thought this would be ready for last week, but I found out that it's much easier to show off other people's videos. Other people's videos may even be way funnier, but this...this one's of my little furry children. There are many things I can brag about from this video, and my giant Smurf booty is not one those things. It's all about the furry children, this. Look how well they all get along now, how adorable my Fluffy One is fighting off my attempts to prune anything, how cool The Slinky One is around The Puppy, and how The Puppy walks on all her legs and doesn't kill us anymore.Tags: June 2007, cats, dogs, family, video

The future of film: Back to the future
As the new millennium unfolds, we’re seeing a few industries shudder due to the almost uncontrollable advancements in technology. The oil industry for example, is on the back-foot as a result of the technological successes of the 21st century such as Biofuel. The music industry also had to adapt to incorporate such technologies as data compression, peer-to-peer networking and the availability of domestic tools of professional quality. This digital revolution made music production and distribution possible from the comfort of bedroom studios the world over. It’s even gone so far as to develop an international arena for lesser-known musicians to set up shop alongside the stars and idols. Could video be on the verge of becoming as accessible, abundant and disposable as its brother Audio? Video production and streaming is developing at such an incredible rate it’s undeniably reminiscent of the Napster boom at the tail end of last century. The buzzwords around videop
Michael Moore Film "Sicko" Puts Down Health Care in America
You know for years I've been seeing and hearing people spinning so fast and furious about this guy's documentary films, that I am tired of dodging the holes in the ground created by all of the spinning. Thus, I've decided to set a few nights aside next week so that I can have my own personal Michael Moore Film Festival and finally view all of the movies that I have never seen as yet. His new film, "Sicko" sounds very interesting to me, since I agree with Michael's sentiments regarding health care in my America. READ ABOUT THIS HERE Practice non-violence in your lives. Bruckheimer?s Future Film: Gemini Man; Maybe? Finally?
David Benioff has been asked by Walt Disney Pictures to begin script work on “Gemini Man”, a long awaited and often re-worked action film that has yet to really get out of the gates. The storyline looks to follow an over-the-hill hitman forced to do battle with a younger clone of himself. Hmm… saucy. It actually sounds kinda cool, but I swear, if Disney goes and puts Nicolas Cage in that damn thing… Grrr. “Gemini Man” is set to be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer while Mike Stenson and Chad Oman will be the executive producers. These guys are veterans in the movie industry and should have no problem pulling together an excellent action flick. Now if they can just get that script going… Variety writes: Over the years, a number of writers have been linked with the project, including “Armageddon” and “Next” scribe Jonathan Hensleigh. Ahh! There’s Nic Cage’s last movie, “Next”. Phew, with
Film Review: Spider-Man 3
Film Review:Spider-Man 3 Fans of superhero comics must have done something extraordinarily good to deserve the Spider-Man series. I don?t know if comic geeks have been helping old ladies cross streets or volunteering in soup kitchens in large numbers, or if the guy who invented the artificial heart was a big Steve Ditko fan, but the continued excellence of Sam Raimi?s Spidey films suggests they?ve been racking up good karma in some way or another. Spider-Man 3 is big. It?s the biggest of the series by far ? the biggest visually, the biggest emotionally, and with the biggest runtime (nearly 2½ hours). The difference between this and other bright, loud, but ultimately vapid would-be blockbusters is that Spidey 3 utilizes its epic scope and more epic budget to tell a story that?s character-driven and sincere. Whereas most other superhero films are as shallow as a kiddie pool (including the grossly overrated Batman Begins; last year?s overlooked Superman Returns being a very notable except
