| | MTV’s The State on DVD, Eventually 2007-07-25 08:00:36
Few things from MTV have ever been so good as The State and now, thankfully, we’ll be able to enjoy it all over with the announcement of its DVD release. The State was a sketch comedy show which ran on MTV from 1993-1995. If you’ve watched Reno 911 on Comedy Central you’re likely to recognize The State cast members Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver. There was also my personal favorite, Michael Ian Black who has gone on to plenty of other great roles. And to think, there used to be a time when MTV played shows other than “Date My Mom” and “My Super Sweet 16.”

| | New multi-gigabit WiFi research could let you download an entire DVD to a cellphone in 5 seconds 2007-07-24 17:03:51
Now with some amazing new multi-gigabit WiFi research could in fact allow you to download an entire DVD to a cellphone and that’s the start of it, Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC) researchers at Georgia Tech has just released the most amazing high speed wireless data that transfers at a staggering 15Gbps at a one meter range.
The research is still at its early stages, as data rates drop off steeply with just a tiny added distance 10Gbps at two meters, 5Gbps at five meters. The ever growing possibilities for speeds of this sort is very promising indeed. Researchers have said that at 10Gbps they rekon that you could download the entire DVD of Beaches to a cellphone in five seconds, now that is fast because takes how long to receive data normally via Bluetooth.
Now how hot would this be for you?

| | Toshiba Ships First U.S. Laptop with HD DVD-R Drive: Expensive 2007-07-24 16:55:27
The very pricey Qosmio G45-AV680 has been successfully and frantically manufactured to be sold at the understandable price of $3,199 (Ł1,599).
The laptop sports an Intel PM965 chipset with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU, 2GB of RAM, two 160GB hard drives, a NVIDIA GForce 8600 GT with 512MB of RAM, 802.11a/g/n, Bluetooth, not two, but four Harmon Kardon speakers, a fingerprint reader, and a built-in webcam. Could we possibly ask for any more?
As the first U.S. notebook computer with an HD DVD-R optical drive, the 17 inch Qosmio notebook boasts a truly state-of-the-art multimedia machine that can impressively burn up to 30 GB of data, including entire photo albums, music libraries and those ‘home-videos’ that you just don’t want anyone to see, onto a single HD DVD recordable disc.
It was bound to come sooner or later, but at that price, will it actually sell?

Johansen announced his feat in a blog post entitled "iPhone Independence Day." The Norwegian cracker initially made a name for himself eight years ago when he cracked the encryption code on DVDs. And last year, he cracked the digital rights management code that prevents iPod users from playing songs purchased from competing online music stores. In his latest effort, DVD Jon has detailed a Windows workaround that he claimed will allow the iPhone to be used as a widescreen iPod and Internet communicator. The cracked iPhone cannot be used to make calls. "I’ve found a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without giving any of your money or personal information to AT&T," Johansen wrote on his "So sue me" blog. | | Yes MMP-8 DVD Multimedia Player 2007-07-06 12:51:00 Most portable DVD players I've come across have a very predictable laptop-style design, which may be bulky, but works pretty well as far as convenience is concerned. Recently, I reviewed the Mitashi portable DVD player that used a tablet PC design to flip and attach the screen to the player so it can be easily fitted to a car's headrest (using it's carry-pouch of course). But the Yes MMP-8 seems like a design that probably will be the best blend of style and ease of use. It looks like a photo frame, but it's a total multimedia player. Brilliant! Now let's see what it can really do. BuildIt's glossy front surface looks very classy with it's minimalistic appearance. All the buttons are moved to the players sides, so all you see on the face of the player is the screen, and minor brandings along with the remote receiver and the indicator light. The clean glossy surface, as always is highly prone to fingerprints. All the player controls are located on the top of the MMP-8.
