| Is Dell Looking to go Higher with Haier? 2007-10-01 23:33:11 It has only been a few days since Dell announced its partnership with Gome, and they are wasting no time at all before stirring up the rumor mill once again.
According to the Digitimes article Dell and Haier Group reportedly interested in Founder-acquisition for China market boost, Dell and Haier are looking at the possibility of joining forces to rollup Founder. you may remember last year I mentioned Haier taking a stake in Founder.. and how I thought from a supply chain and distribution perspective this deal made a lot of sense.
Well, if Dell and Haeir come together on Founder, and both Dell and Founder computers can reach consumers through Haier’s distribution network and GOME’s network.. all using Haier’s world class logistics infrastructure.. well, I would say you have the makings for a potentially big deal.
One that Legend/ Lenovo - IBM are going to follow very closely.

But our long hike through the crowded hallways was worth it, since Dell was showing off the XPS Mobile Concept PC, which was taken offstage so quickly after Michael Dell's speech yesterday that we almost thought it was a cardboard mockup. Well, now that we've seen it up close, we can confirm that it's definitely not cardboard. It's a fully functional prototype PC, weighing in at 18 pounds, with a 20-inch display, sporting 8 speakers, and running Windows XP Media Center Edition. It's got a Bluetooth keyboard along with a matching Bluetooth remote, has DVI output for adding additional displays, and supports both dual hard drives and dual-core processors. The computer company Dell has announced earnings of $733 million for Q2 2007 compared with $502 million last year.
For Dell shareholders this represents a rise of 50% or of 11 cents in EPS (earnings per share) as Dell’s earnings per share is now 32 cents, whereas it was 22 cents.
Revenue for Dell is also up as it rose 7% to $14.8 billion from last-year’s $14.1 billion.
These results are better than many Wall Street analysts had predicted and Dell said in a statement
“While we’ve made progress against our goals, we are still in the early stages of transforming our company’s structure, cost and operations.”
The increase in profits for Dell are mainly down to increased profits in servers and laptops.
What do you think of the Q2 results from Dell?
Should investors be buying Dell shares now?

| | Nancy O’Dell Sheds Her Pregnancy Pounds 2007-08-20 12:18:51
Talk about camera ready! A mere nine weeks after giving birth to daughter Ashby Grace, Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell has lost 24 of her 30 lbs. of pregnancy weight.
O’Dell, who plans to return to work in time for the Emmy Awards on Sept. 16, gives most of the credit for her weight loss to her daughter: “Breastfeeding is the best diet,” she says.
Plus, she adds, “I want to eat healthy for her, so it’s easy to say no to pizza.”
Since giving birth on June 11, O’Dell’s diet consists mostly of lean protein, vegetables and fruit. She avoids milk, cheese, tomatoes and garlic, because, she says, “Ashby gets an upset stomach.”
O’Dell also started working out with a trainer four weeks after she gave birth. “I called up my friend Lisa Rinna and said, ‘I want your body, who is your trainer?’” she says.
“I do ballet and dance movements for an hour three times a week,” she adds. | | Dell Announces Linux Systems For Europe, Windows Becoming Less Popular? 2007-08-09 16:34:46
The second-largest computer maker today announced its first range computers in Europe to be sold installed with the Linux operating system, as opposed to Microsoft’s dominant Windows operating system.
At the end of the day, Dell are a business, which is there to maximise profits. An open-source, free (meaning lower costs) and increasingly popular operating system compared to Windows Vista, a disappointing and shameful OS, is more attractive; to both the consumer and the company themselves.
Laura Conigliaro, the Goldman Sachs analyst, said: “Moving forward, we think acquisitions such as Zing will help Dell to offer refreshed consumer products with differentiated features and improved design – key steps in gaining both market and mind share in the consumer segment.”
Why do you think Windows is becoming more and more unpopular?

| | Dell is Disappointing Chinese Laptop Buyers: XPS M1330 Shortage! 2007-08-08 10:01:08
Dell is facing a rather significant problem in a market that they really don’t want to be upsetting. There have been reports of huge shortages with the vast demand for the new Dell XPS M1330 Laptops, which is understandable. The very powerful, sleek and sexy, super thin notebook with fancy multimedia possibilities really is a laptop and a half. The M1330 is priced at the oh-so-substantial tage of $1,579, after being converted from Yuan.
“Right now, we are focused on shipping as many systems as we can. Currently, we have worked through about 10% of our backlog and will focus on improving this going forward,” he wrote. “Despite our best efforts, we may not be able to ship some orders before the original estimated ship date we gave you. In those cases, Dell will be contacting affected customers to let them know. Details will vary by region.”
Are the Dell XPS M1330 Laptops really worth all the hassle? I think so.
