Wow, this is really interesting. An individual who is age 17 in Michigan is not an "adult", is not a "juvenile" and also not a "child" under Michigan law. What are they then and can Michigan Law provide the authority for the parents to do anything?

According lawyers for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline faced off in a hearing Monday to hammer out a holiday visitation schedule for their children. According to Federline’s lawyer, the former couple agreed to share time with Preston, 2 and Jayden James, 1, over Christmas.“There was a proposal by Kevin that the holidays be shared in a certain fashion. That was agreed to. A school in Thailand, the Mathayom Thanbin Kamphaeng Salen school, now requires parents to pass a written test before the institution would consider admitting their child. Potential students receive a child-raising manual which they take home in order to educate their parents concerning what constitutes being a good parent. According to Nannapas Kamchan, a 14-year old student, “I wasn’t worried that my parents would fail. The test isn’t hard. They only needed to seriously study the materials.” Children are allowed to assist their parents when they take the test which requires at least a 70% grade for passing. Parents are also required to attend a training session every session where they are expected to brush up on parenting techniques. The school has also increased Buddhism classes where students work on merit-making, meditation and social services. In adulthood, and probably some time before such a thing occurred, to the extent that it has in my case, we’ve become familiar with a phrase, term or commonly held belief that “children can be very mean.”  We hark back to our middle school years or see neighborhood kids of that age say, and do some pretty hurtful, spiteful things.  Yet we accept it for what it is, for the most part.  However, when adults take on a role as occurred here, most will no doubt feel the anger rise from within.  I’m not sure what caught my attention about the story (perhaps a same last name spelling as your’s truly) caused me to pause, but I’m disgusted with it to say the least.  I’ll let you draw your own conclusions and call this a wrap for today.
