| New Diamond Cell Phone from Tiffany 2008-02-01 08:24:00 Luxury cell phones are not a new thing anymore, but they keep on appearing to satisfy the fashion needs of those who have larger bank accounts. SoftBank, a leading Japanese mobile carrier, partnered with Tiffany Japan to bring such a phone, that will be sold for 10 million Japanese Yens, meaning about $93,600. It cannot compete against the world's most expensive phone, Goldvish Le Million, which costs more than 1 million USD, but it's still a terribly expensive device. The handset comes encrusted in no less than 400 diamonds, totaling a bit over 20 carats, and will be available starting this month, most probably before Valentine's Day, to make an extravagant gift. There aren't many technical details about the Tiffany handset, except the fact that it's a 3G device. A modder configured an old Nintendo Game & Watch (Nintendo's handheld before the GameBoy) system to connect to a cell phone. When the cell phone is closed, it looks like a normal game device. But when opened it's like a cell phone. Very cool idea, and it looks awesome. Not sure if the phone is actually connected to the game, so that you could display the time and battery life on the Game & Watch, but it is still awesome. | | Garmin Announces Cell Phone 2008-01-31 13:36:00 The Apple iPhone did a lot more than just turn the cell phone industry on its ear. With it's "revolutionary" design and interface it showed a stagnant industry that innovation was still possible. It also showed manufacturers of other products that your name didn't have to start with an "N" or an "M" to jump into this market. Enter Garmin, a company synonymous with GPS navigation devices. Last night they announced their own handset they call the Nuvifone pictured in this article. Notice the resemblance to the iPhone? It's all touch screen with only a few buttons on either side. Here are the specs that we know of so far: 3.5G network compatibility, 3.5 inch color touch screen display, GPS functions which will use Google's local search capability, video camera, and MPEGG 4/MP3 & AAC. Garmin bucked the trend by releasing this news prior to the 3GSM conference in Barcelona next month. Stay tuned for more details on this one as it becomes available to us.AndroidGuys | The | | knfbREADER Mobile: Cell phone software for reading to the blind 2008-01-28 06:01:00 K-NFB Reading Technology has announced that their reading software for the blind is now available for the Nokia N82 mobile phone. Already, though, the cell phone storage business is creating new headaches for students and store owners, as the makeshift depositories have become targets of theft. On Thursday, a crowd of students from Washington Irving High School near Union Square descended on a local news store, NYC Universal News, to pick up their cell phones. They flashed ID cards to prove which phones and iPods were theirs, and a store clerk doled them out until a shy freshman girl silently put her ID on the counter. The clerk, Shaikat Taher, explained that she could not collect her phone as it was one of four that had been stolen that day by a group of teenagers. "I know we are responsible," Mr. Taher said, "but you have to complain to the police first." The "brief" even stated the penalties for breaking the so-called law.Now we know the brief was a hoax, but like all good rumors, there's a kernel of truth somewhere. In this case, House legislators have, in fact, approved for discussion a measure that would prohibit most drivers from using hand-held cell phones. House Bill 1827 is scheduled to be discussed today as a part of a "distracted-driver public hearing" by the House Transportation Committee. So there's a movement afoot for Pennsylvania to look closely at what drivers are doing when they should be concentrating on the road.New York recognized this problem in 2001 and enacted the first law in the country banning the use of hand-held phones while driving. Now the issue for New York | | Motorola Razr V3 Cell Phone - Big on performance 2007-10-12 12:35:00 If you are looking for a cell phone that is big on performance, then you should consider running out to get yourself a Motorola Razr V3 phone.
