Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) came to the conclusion after a study of male mice that were fed a plant compound found in red wine called resveratrol. The findings were published Saturday in the online edition of Carcinogenesis. (Source: China)
The nutrients in red wine have shown anti-oxidant and anti-cancer properties. Other sources of resveratrol in the diet include grapes, raspberries, peanuts and blueberries.
In the study resveratrol-fed mice showed an 87 percent reduction in their risk of developing prostate tumors that contained the worst kind of cancer-staging diagnosis. The mice that proved to have the highest cancer-protection effect earned it after seven months of consuming resveratrol in a powdered formula mixed with their food.
Other mice in the study, those fed resveratrol but still developed a less-serious form of prostate cancer, were 48 percent more likely to have | | 10 Top Causes of Prostate Cancer 2007-09-03 00:53:56 The Top Causes of Prostate Cancer

John Kanzius, A former radio and TV engineer and one-time station owner, , believes radio waves could somehow be harnessed to destroy cancer, without drugs or invasive surgery. Kanzius' treatments would involve a patient being injected with tiny metal nano-particles, which would be carried through the bloodstream by a targeting molecule and attach only to cancerous cells. The patient would then be exposed to an energy field created by radio waves, and feel nothing, while the nano-particles would generate enough heat to destroy their cancerous host cell.Lab experiments using nano particles and cancer analogs have demostrated that the basic concept is sound, however targeting cancer cells will be the biggest challenge.Kanzius' invention has caught the attention of Dr. Steven Curley, a surgical oncologist and cancer researcher at MD Anders | | Toni Braxton Has Been Diagnosed With Breast Cancer 2007-08-27 12:21:02

| | pectin - kills prostate cancer cells 2007-08-20 15:28:00 A new University of Georgia study finds that pectin, atype of fiber found in fruits and vegetables and used in making jamsand other foods, kills prostate cancer cells. The study, published in the August issue of thejournal Glycobiology, found that exposing prostate cancer cells topectin under laboratory conditions reduced the number of cells by up to40 percent. UGA Cancer Center researcher Debra Mohnen and hercolleagues at UGA, along with Vijay Kumar, chief of research anddevelopment at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, found that the cellsliterally self-destructed in a process known as apoptosis. Pectin evenkilled cells that aren’t sensitive to hormone therapy andtherefore are difficult to treat with current medications. “Whatthis paper shows is that if you take human prostate cancer cells andadd pectin, you can induce programmed cell death,” said Mohnen, aprofessor of biochemistry and molecular biology. “If you do thesame with non-cancerous cells, cell death doesn’t occu | | L'Oréal Paris Color of Hope OCRF (Ovarian Cancer Research Fund) Fundraising Sterling Silver Pavé CZ Bracelet 2007-08-20 01:03:00 Its new, its exclusive and its absolutely beautiful. Who writes self-help books emphasizing better living through basketball?
Turns out the author, Chris Bibey, is a young basketball playing cancer survivor turned author. Bibey played forward at La Roche College, a D III school in western PA. While undergoing thyroid cancer treatment, Bibey helped his team compete in the conference finals. I won’t repeat all of the details here, but suffice to say it’s a great story about a kid going above and beyond in spite of what life threw at him.
I’m not sure what the book is about - I’ve never read it - but you should check out Chris Bibey’s blog. He’s giving one of his books away.

Game-show producer Merv Griffin (aged 82) has died of prostate cancer according to a statement from his son Tony and one released by The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment.
Last month saw Merv Griffin admitted to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles because his cancer had returned; the cancer was treated originally in 1996.
Griffin’s success started in the 1940s as a singer for the Freddy Martin big band; this led to getting his big break in 1962 when he was asked to host The Tonight Show.
He then went on to host his own show and set up Merv Griffin Productions, out of that came game shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune which were two of the most popular game shows in history.
Merv Griffin sold his empire for $250 million to Coca-Cola in 1986, he then went on a buying spree of hotels and his wealth in 2003 was said to be around $1.2 billion.
We wish to send our thoughts to his family and hope he rests in peace.

| | NatWest Denies Breast Cancer Sufferer an Insurance Payout 2007-08-07 11:06:34
A woman who suffered from breast cancer has been denied insurance payout as she tried to rebuild her life after the terrible breast cancer due to an omission in her policy. Jilly had £70,000 of cover of which she claimed for and was totally confident that it would pay out but this was not to be. She was diagnosed with cancerous cells confined to ducts in her breast which is best known as ‘ductal carcinoma in situ’ and this was not covered in her insurance.
Apparently this claim is not covered because the type of cancer Jilly has is such an early form of cancer that it can be treated successfully, but this is bad news because Jilly says the Natwest salesmen did not point out any pitfalls when she was sold the policy.
Jilly said that if she did not have her breast removed her cancer would have spread and then it would have qualified for her claim, but this means she would have risked her life.
Should Jilly have got her insurance payout?

The Breast Cancer Awareness marketing campaign is very much close to the heart for me, quite a few years back my aunt on my mothers side found out she had breast Cancer which was a shock for us even more so for her, but with numerous trips to the hospital and operations in which one operation entailed part of her breast being removed. Luckily enough after this operation she went 12 years with the signs of cancer gone, until now that is. My aunt was having breathing problems recently and went to the hospital to find out what was wrong and this is where she found out the cancer she thought she had beaten has come back with a vengeance, she now has terminal cancer which is so upsetting for her/my family and myself.
This is why we must support the Breast Cancer Awareness; below I have put together many photos of products that support this great charity. Some great sites to read are breast Cancer Care or NBCAM and Susan G. Komen. Take a look at some of the products in the photos below –
| | Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America Is Battling Breast Cancer 2007-07-31 16:20:54
Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America announced today that she is battling breast cancer.
Robin found out she had breast cancer after she was preparing for a tribute show for her dear friend and colleague, Joel Siegel who also fought cancer. When Robin got home she went to bed and did a self breast exam and found a lump.
She said at first I thought “This can’t be. I am a young, healthy woman.” Nevertheless, I faced my fear head on and made an appointment to see the doctor. Much as I was hoping the doctor would say it was nothing, she did a biopsy and confirmed that the lump I’d found was indeed an early form of breast cancer.”
Robin is due to have surgery on Friday to remove the lump and will follow with treatment.
Let’s wish Robin all the best and hope that everything goes ok and that she makes a full recovery.
