Houston's TMI Boyz (Sayeed, Dudella, Huskey) have entered the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart this week at #5 according to Billboard thanks to a successful round of Houston FYE in-stores set up by Atlanta-based company Face2Face and Rap Coalition's Wendy Day. This is NIN’s fourth consecutive number one single. I can’t wait to get this for two reasons. One, because I downloaded it and it is amazing. Two, because I saw a picture of the cd before and after ripping it in the computer. I want to see if the cover really is heat sensitive and changes when you rip it. If so, that is the coolest thing I have ever seen. If not, the person that posted those pics is a douche.

Having just read News24’s New phone ‘to rock your world, I was surprised to see that Google may be launching what has been dubbed the GooPhone. What’s more, the rumour is that the handset is going to be free. To be honest, I’m sitting on the fence with this one… According to the article, “Google is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to develop text, brand image and video ads for small-screen cellphones”. Basically, by making the GooPhone an advertising-friendly medium, Google will be able to recoup the costs of the phones and eventually, the cost of calls. That’s right, the calls will be free. From an eMarketing point of view I’m looking forward to seeing how Google manages to strike a balance between making the GooPhone an advertising tool and a user-friendly personal communication device. The success of the phone depends on it, yet they are going to have to bulk up on the advertising if they are looking to make a profit.

Billboard, the world’s most comprehensive source of music, digital data and events, today announced an expansion of its Hot 100 formula to include weekly streamed and on-demand music data to the chart’s traditional mix of sales and radio airplay. Keeping pace with the growth of digital delivery, Billboard’s franchise chart will be supplemented by weekly data from AOL Music and Yahoo! Music, two of the most prominent sources of online music. In the new Billboard Hot 100 formula, radio audience will average about 55% of the chart’s total points. Digital sales will account for about 40%, and streaming media will determine 5%. Physical singles–in line with the music industry’s retreat from that product over the past decade — will account for less than 1% of the chart’s new formula.
