Apple Issues New Security Update
Apple has shipped a major Security Update 2007-009 (10.4.11 Universal), recommended for all Mac OS X v10.4.11 and Mac OS X v10.5.1 users. This update corrects multiple critical flaws and improves the security of many Mac OS apps. Those wanting to know more about the updates may click here.
Apple iPhone To Record Video
One of the bigger issues with the Apple iPhone that made everyone on the planet go 'What the...?' was the fact that this Super phone had a camera, great, but not only was it a simple point and shoot with no settings, it was also devoid of video recording capabilities. That is now about to stand corrected. Although it is NOT Apple who has revamped the camera but a third part application that will provide this facility.A beta version of the iPhone video recording application was developed by the Monster and Friends. The latest update tells us that the application, although has it’s limitations due to the iPhone’s RAM, is able to record videos at a frame rate of 40-45 fps with no recording limit. Such was not the case with the earlier version.Kudos to the developer and let’s just say we’re looking forward to a lot more from him.You can download the iPhone video recording application here.
Rap-A-Lot Founder J-Prince Suing Viacom, BET, & Apple
Rap-A-Lot founder and CEO James Prince and his associate Thomas Randle are suing BET, its parent company Viacom, and Apple over their portrayal on BET’s program ‘American Gangster’. The suit states that the two are not happy with the “defamatory statements” during advertising and promotion of the Chicago gang leader Larry Hoover. The suit states that during the advertisment a picture of Prince and Randle standing with Hoover was shown and implied that they were killers and that it has to the potential to hurt their professional careers. The suit also stated that Apple and Viacom refused to take down the show from Itunes and also pull it from the station. Prince and Randle are seeking preliminary and permanent injunctions barring the companies from publishing, broadcasting or selling the episode; as well as punitive damages for airing it in the first place. In current news, J-Prince is being charged with felony aggravated assault stemming from the beating of R
Hackers crack Apple, Microsoft music codes
In the past month, separate programs have emerged to strip away the digital rights management (DRM) tools that protect music from unauthorized duplication. One of the programs counteracts Microsoft’s Windows Media DRM, while the other targets Apple’s FairPlay. Anybody who would pay a buck to hear “Stairway to Heaven” ought to have his head examined. http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2006/05/stairways_to_he.html
Goldman Sachs says second-gen iPhone is in "final design phase," Apple TV to get LCD screen
We're not certain why anyone treats the inevitable arrival of a second-gen iPhone sometime next year as earth-shattering news, but Goldman Sachs released a note to clients yesterday saying that the rumored 3G version is in its "final design phase." The investment firm's David Bailey says he got the info from the usual assortment of moderately-reliable Asian component suppliers, and that he expects the new model to have "similar form factor" with a "different look." Rounding out his list of obvious predictions, Bailey also said the existing model will get a capacity bump sometime next year as well, which makes sense given the proliferation of 32GB flash devices we've seen pop up lately.MORE...
Wash your apple instead of peeling it
It’s is better to wash an apple before you eat it than to peel it, because the peel contains triterpenoids. Triterpenoids are antioxidants which have shown in laboratory tests that they slow the growth of different kinds of cancer cells. Science does not know the full potential of this substance yet, but it could be that triterpenoids are mainly responsible for the cancer fighting properties of fruit.
Nokia Looking to Emulate Apple?
In a move that can only be seen as flattering to the Apple iPhone business model, Nokia is looking to copy their approach to mobile operators by sharing revenue. Nokia states it has no desire to charge a "kick back" to mobile operators for handsets, but instead will attempt to use this same model from the service side, such as music or navigation services. Now I love Nokia's handsets, particularly their Nseries, but here in the states you will be hard pressed to find a service they offer on US networks. I can see this model working overseas, but even that isn't a guarantee. Mobile operators generally like to sell their own services, and now you're going to make them share the revenue they make by selling yours?. You can read the complete article here at Pocket Lint. I am sure there are folks smarter than myself running Nokia, but this one seems way out there. Now if Nokia offered a product or service that none else did, such as the iPhone I would give it a greater chance of
Apple Has Cash - What Should They Do With It?
One of my friends, Darren Herman, recently wrote an interesting blog post titled ‘Apple’s cash pile’ and brings up an interesting question. As Apple grows and does significantly more sales directly to consumers, are they going to run into a customer service problem that has destroyed the reputations of so many large companies? He mentions how Apple should probably invest in a stronger customer service infrastructure to prevent the pitfalls faced by customer service - nightmares like Verizon. I’d like to take this analysis a bit further by focusing on the consumer loyalty angle. Apple is a hugely popular brand and many people are loyalty (i.e. die-hard) Apple customers, especially when it comes to computers. Customer loyalty can be a slippery slope however and cannot be taken for granted. Psychologically, people don’t like waiting in line to buy merchandise in a store. People who have recently been to an Apple store location know the waiting game all too
